"Buy a house" is listed here on MyLot as "things I want to do with my life." Well, I did it! Well, my husband and I did. It's funny to look back on it, but it was not fun to go through it. So much has changed in real estate that you really have to bend over backwards now a days. We were trying to buy the house we were renting via short sale. It was going into foreclosure and we really liked the house. We made an offer and then the bank took about 6 months to get back to us! While they took their sweet time responding, they only gave us 30 days to close! Our Realtor at the time didn't know what he was doing and led us astray about the amount we would need to pay in closing costs, so we needed a little more time. Long story short, we needed a couple of extensions and the bank finally just foreclosed the SAME day we were finally able to sign. Oh well. It was a hard hit, but God had the perfect house waiting for us. Our realtor took us to see it before it even went on the market and we immediately fell in love. We made and an offer and were on our way. Everything looked great until the Friday before Labor Day. That was the day we were supposed to close, but something got delayed. It turned out to be a huge blessing because later that weekend, the kitchen flooded! Long story short, we wanted to remodel the kitchen anyway. Thanks to the flood, a portion of our remodel was paid for by the previous homeowner's insurance! Here we are. We love our home. It was worth the wait. I hope this crazy story encourages anyone else who is going through the nightmare that buying a house has become. Your dream of home ownership can be a reality!

Thanks for sharing your story. It's always been my goal to have my own house, too. I'm not there yet. I just started working full time last month. However, I'm planning so I know what to look out for when it's my turn. A lot of people tell me the process of buying is no fun at all. May I ask how old you and your husband are?
