I always thought that people leave the company because of better opportunities offered outside. But it never crossed my mind that it will be because of the lousy boss. Maybe, I was just naive to think that it will occur and I recently found out that it could really be true. What do you think?

I think this is an oft quoted and misquoted phrase. I do not think that everyone leaves because of a lousy boss or manager. I usually look at reasons for a person leaving as internal and external. One of the top internal reasons is a lousy boss, but then there are a plethora of external reasons like personal reasons, money, position, location etc. which cause people to leave companies.
So in the internal reasons lousy boss is one of the big reasons, it cannot be said that a person leaves the company always because of a lousy boss.
Cheers!

Ram, yeah so true there are internal and external reasons for one to leave the company. But it is true that it could also be one of the reason why one leaves because they cannot stand their boss. Others stay because they feel that they have no choice and they need the work very badly.

I think this happens often. I would rather go to a job everyday and meet with a kind and considerate boss, rather than a Mr. Grinch. It's how we treat people, that really matters. If a boss appreciates and respects his/her workers, they will want to do well with their job and provide the loyalty that a company needs.

I am not surprised to hear that. As I was the same person. In the past I quit the job just because of the terrible boss. He would lose temper suddenly without reasons. It is hard to deal with an emotional person like that. You just feel so frustrated to work there.
I love China

Sometimes it isn't always about the money we make. If we are unhappy with an employer, we do not enjoy the job we do. Sometimes the best thing we can do in this situation is to walk away.

I want to leave my company right now because of the boss. The reason I'm hanging on is because I could not find a more suitable job and I cannot be without a job because I really need the money. I thought before, too, that I can deal with all kinds of people, but our boss has zapped the energy out of me. Every day is like waking up in a nightmare. I have heard of former employees who quit because of him. So, yes, sometimes having a lousy boss can make you leave your job.
