What is the suitable age for the use of CELLPHONE?

The cellphone is indispensable.I guess the age when the child becomes teenager is the right time so that they can tell us where they are going

I got my first cellphone when I started going to college. I was 17 then. Even I have noticed schoolchildren using cellphones these days. One reason is that cellphones and prepaid plans are very cheap these days. So, parents don't mind buying cellphones for the school kids. As for the need, I see no reason/need that school going children should have for cellphones unless they have to travel a lot to reach school and come back and they do this alone without a companion.

These days cell phone related crime are getting more and more, i have given cell phone (one only) to my 11 and 6 year old grand daughter, they go to a school far from home, the school bus service is poor, we get worried at times, during such time cell phone helps.. Well, for me I had my phone just recently..when I started college. But now I even se little kids who have phones and I don't think it is necessary. Maybe they should have phones in college too..or when they are 15 or 16 years old. Because kids just play with phones.

Based on my experience as early as 10 years old my mom started to use cellphone for family use. Then 2 years later text messaging started to spread all over our country. Then 2-3 years later my parents bought me a cellphone. We use cellphone to communicate. It depends on how we used it. But I suggest as early as a kid better they have their own. I know that mobile phones are a necessity for everyone especially to students. I think it's easier for them now to keep in touch with each other if they need to ask a schoolmate something they missed at school or if they want to ask their friend to inform their teacher that he/she is sick and won't be in class the following day. I think it's all about how you talk to your kids on how they should use their mobile phones wisely that matters. I mean, having their own phones, if you need to ring them if they're still not at home or you're picking them up and want to tell them you'll be late or something it's very handy. It keeps you in touch with your kids and them to you as well. I've met a family before who only lets their kids have prepaid or pay-as-you-go mobile phones wherein they cannot go all the way on using it because they need you to top up or load their phones if it runs out of credit or mobile load. And this family only lets their kids use the non-smart phones so they only will use it to call and text, not for anything else. It makes them more disciplined I guess on how they should use their phones.

I had my first cellphone when I was in 4th year high school. But it didn't have that much use coz we're not allowed to bring cellphones in school.I think the ideal time to give kids cellphones is when they enter college. Coz what use is there of a cellphone if you can't bring it?

You know, I am not sure about that as my children never had cell phones when they were in school, but then cell phones were not in existence then. I do think though that if high school students don't abuse the privilege of having a cell phone in school, they don't text in class, and do their school work, then I don't think their is anything wrong with it. However those that do just the opposite, and text in class and not pay attention or do their work, then I feel they shouldn't have them, and maybe they should have their cell phone taken away from them. I think if there had been cell phones when my kids were in school, I probably wouldn't have got them cell phones anyway. I was a strict parent so I would have done what was necessary to make sure they did their school work. Take care, and have a very good day.

ya know i like this question a lot and for you an answer i would say i agree with you on this.I think that cell phones like other things should be based on maturity.We would not allow our oldest son to have a cell phone till he was around 14 or 15 yrs old he is now 16,and one of his brothers are 14 and we do not feel he is ready for a cell phone though he wants one badly.

hello sami00! in today's world, where everything is fast-paced, i think school children who goes to school and can understand the uses of a cellphone, is entitled to use it, with you permission of the kids' parents of course. For myself, my three kids, aged 10-13 have cellphones. They were gifts from their grandparents. I relented to their begging, since communication is indeed essential this time and especially for me, a fulltime working mother. I would like to be updated as to the whereabouts of my children even when i'm at work. I have told them anyhow of when and where to use their cellphones. They should not put it in display hanging in their necks for that would invite would-be snatchers and thefts. No texting and calling during class, except if emergency. Well, there's no right time such as now to teach them how to be responsible for themselves and using their cellphones in the right place and time, is attached to that.

I owned my first cellphone in my high school days.Actually,the age of getting cellphone is becoming more and more younger.I don't think that little boys and girls need cellphone.But sometimes,you have to admit that there is going to be easier to find where they are when they have their cellphone.

For me, there is not really an exact age for people to be able to use phones. For me, it solely depends on the maturity of one and his/her learning of the responsibility that goes with it. Even if someone is quite old already, if he/she can't handle the phone well, like being responsible to take care of this possession and the right usage of it, that person should not have a phone. Also one factor to consider especially if it's the parents buying the phone is how would it affect their children's behavior, priorities, outlook in life, goals, and personalities. Parents should also guide their children on the dangers of this gadget for everything has pros and cons.
