Malaysia government proposed to spend 1.6 billion US dollar in order to build a 100-storey tower. The tower will complete in 2015 and it will be the tallest tower in Malaysia. As the comparison, current highest tower in Malaysia have 88-storey. The reason to build this tower is to boost the national economy. Is it worth it or not? Give me your opinion.

The initial aim is to spur economic growth.
A big construction project like the one proposed will require support industry to succeed. There will be direct employment with the actual construction project, and with the support industry.
Some people say that it is a waste, partly because they want the money for themselves, so that they can have luxury homes, luxury cars, and to live like kings.
Among the support industry that will benefit from the project are food (workers need to eat), cement, steel, medical, and transport. Those involved would then have extra money to spend on things like personal items and entertainment. In short there will be a positive chain reaction in the economy.

Profit to certain people? That is the nature of business.
If you mean corruption, then open your eyes wider. The Government is taking steps to eradicate corruption in the country. Malaysians should be proud that the level is lower than many countries. The Opposition will try to make an issue out of this, but if we look into their own backyard, and their closets...
By the way I am not affiliated with any political party. I have worked for both camps, so there are things which I know.

If Malaysia feels that it's important to have a huge tower than you should give them that choice. Malaysia wants tourism and individual to see how beautiful their country is.

To the Opposition almost everything that the Government does is wrong. Two examples are the national car, and the Sepang F1 circuit.
They have yet to prove that they can manage the economy better. When the Opposition leader was in the Government he did things to accelerate the recession of 1997. I know, his supporters said it was Dr Mahathir who did it. But we cannot avoid the fact that Dr M reversed a few policies, and Malaysian economic fundamentals became stronger under his guidance.
The Opposition likes to blame the Federal Government for their failings. Even after successive years the FG loaned money to the Kelantan state without being paid back, the Kelantanese government blamed the FG for the lack of development planned and carried out by them. They never really explained about the status of gold exploration, and timber royalties.

I may agree or not agree with you. Yes, Malaysia is rich with its culture, food and etc. But skycrappers also is a tourist attraction. Just look at KLCC Tower for example, a lot of people have been visited KLCC every year. But to have another skycrapper, government need to study a lot before build the tower.
