Did You Ever Wear Them?

I am talking about Dr Marten's boots or shoes. Apparently, they are 50 years old. Amazing to think they have been going that long. http://uk.lifestyle.yahoo.com/fashion/dr-martens-50-boots-article-huib.html I have worn a pair of black, 8 hole DM's that Mum bought me for Christmas one year. I was ecstatic as I'd wanted a pair for absolutely ages. I - subsequently, bought a pair of DM shoes but I didn't find them as comfortable as the boots. I knew a guy who was obsessed with the "Bull's Blood" versions. It took him ages to find some and he wouldn't stop going on about them until he was successful in his quest! So, have you ever worn DM's? In what context? Were they a fashion accesory or did you wear them to shock? I have been known to wear mine with dresses, something Paula Yates would probably be proud of! I don't actually know what's become of my DM's. Would I wear a pair now? Don't see why not!

What, you mean there are copies of DMs? It's the same over here with the Ugg boots. Some people have been seriously scammed with fakes..not good.

i don't think they're fake-it's just not the same quality the UK gets.i've noticed a big difference in ones that actually come from there.

Really? Well, that makes a change, the Brits making something superior to the Yanks.

I would have loved a pair of Doc Martens back in the day. I have not seen anyone here wearing them for years, but I am assuming that they are still available somewhere. I would wear them these days, but I think my feet would get a little too sweaty in them. I would only be able to wear them in the middle of winter. The rest of the year would be too hot for them. Whenever I thing of these boots, I always think of The Young Ones where there was a song sung about them!

I imagine that they would be a well made boot that would last for years. I have the complete Young Ones series on DVD! I have always liked them ever since the early Eighties! I just wish that had made more series.

I guess if they'd carried on - eventually, they would make a crap series and that is what they'd be remembered for. In a way, I'm glad they didn't make too many of them. That way it never loses its "freshness."

Haha! The Young Ones, how I loved that show. It tends to be Punks that still wear them but they can be used for workwear too, depending on what the job entails of course. I should imagine the company will go on for another 50 years and beyond.

I agree that they're not to everyone's taste. In fact, I haven't worn them since the mid 90s. It's just that I'm amazed they have been going for 50 years. Not many shoes/boots do that unless they change in some way.

I would like to give the box of shoes away but not my DM's...lol and I don't have time to go through the box when I think of it...hmmm Yes they call it laziness ...lol Any whooo, I love wearing DM's

Do you not wear them anymore? If I still had mine I reckon I'd dig them out now and again because they never go out of fashion. Rainbow laces..wow, I'd love to see those!

Yes and they have rainbow stitching around the sole.....I think it gives them that little bit of feminine look...or maybe it was meant for gay pride... I don't know why they made them but I'm glad I got them...I never saw them rainbow anywhere but Spokane Wa. USA of all places. My friends from Boston Ma never saw them except mine...hehe I am getting them out this afternoon...yippeee

My brother had a pair of heavy DM's sandals and I had worn it as often as I was allowed to(even if not allowed to ), though they were heavy, they have proven to be very durable.

Wow, DM sandals, I've not heard of them before. They sound mightily impressive though!

If I go back about 20 years I used to own a pair of DM boots which I got because they were the trend back then. Funnily I hated wearing them, found them so uncomfortable so only put them on when I knew I had to look hip, trendy although I doubt groovy, lol. I wouldn't mind trying a pair again now just to see if they were more comfortable but I don't think I would fork out for a pair.

Yes, they could be a bit clumpy to walk in, I agree. I think they're about £79 for the 8-hole versions but I'm not sure if they are unisex or the women's...I guess they're unisex because they all look the same on both men and women (to me at least).

I received one as a gift and it was one of the most durable and confortable pair of shoes I'd ever owned. I wish I still had it.

I never really got into the shoes but I guess you must've stumbled upon a really comfy pair for school. Good for you! You're right about DMs lasting ages as well, my boots certainly did!

Ahh Yes I remember my doc martin days very well. I wasn't a hardcore fan of them I only really bought them because everyone else did but man i found those to be some of the most uncomfortable foot wear I have ever worn. They are classic thou and those days where great.

I loved my pair as well. There are far more to choose from now, ironically but I do think the classy black ones have stood the test of time, I really do. Glad you liked yours!
