U.S. and 4 other countries warned of possible terrorist attacks in Manila malls and elsewhere in the Philippines, sparking a security alert on Wednesday in the sprawling capital.
news here: http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2010/11/03/us-warns-possible-terror-attack-philippines.html
Amidst this warning...Are you scared of going to the Philippines now? As for me, I haven't really heard of any recent terrorist attacks, and Philippines is just as dangerous as other countries.

I agree, I recently went to Davao (located in Mindanao) and it was beautiful! There are plenty of things to see there and it was really peaceful. Try going out of Metro Manila and see the beauty of our country. Batanes (located at the northernmost part of Luzon) is also a beautiful place and the people there are really kind.
Manila and other bigger cities are densely populated but in the other parts of the Philippines, the population is relatively sparse.

Im sorry sweetmary.. but I totally disagree with you. There are a lot of things to do in the Philippines. Philippines is a beautiful country. It just needed someone to cultivate it properly. In fact, tourism is one of the biggest industries that has a lot to offer to your economy or in any country. So, why shy tourists/foreigners away?

Even us who stay here in the Philippines and outside Manila are scared of the news. To think that big nations are giving warnings to their people to refrain going to our country made it sound as if Philippines is very dangerous. The world is really becoming a dangerous place to live.

I am so worried about it. There might be a possibility that it might happen. Our security system is too poor. We already had bombing incidents before and i am really worried what would happen next. Philippines is such a beautiful country. We filipinos aren't taking good care of it well. Why do the terrorist choose my country to attack? There are many poor people here and for sure if there would be destruction in the future, we will become poorer. I just hope that the terrorist will have some heart to think about this.

I think that the terrorist may think of attacking us because we are poor and defenseless- we lack the equipment for safety and to fight back. But as what I've heard in the news, the authorities are getting ready for the said attacks and the police are everywhere...I think it's going to be okay , let's just hope

I don't know guys, if it's really true and the threat really exists then there's nothing to lose if you stay away from public places where terrorist attacks are likely to take place, as they say better be safe than sorry. However, our own government denies that such a threat exist, maybe they just say that to avoid panic among the people but this will definitely affects the tourism industry again but I guess people have been used to this kind of threat already.

Well, as for me, wherever one goes, danger is always around. But its always up to us on how we take ourselves to safety. Terrorism can not just happen in the Philippines, it can happen to anywhere. It might scare some tourists away but not all. I have heard some news before that the number of tourists in the Philippines has decreased after the world renown Maguindanao massacre. But there are those tourists who enjoyed more in their adventures than those terrorist threats. I was working in a hotel in Cebu before and I met foreign tourists who enjoyed more on the beauty of the Philippines despite the terror attacks and threats. They just said "There's not really a place of safety nowadays, so why not enjoy the moment?"

that's their problem.
If they want to avoid the Philippines, fine. what can we do if the tourist believed them anyways, besides we got other things to solve, like our own lives. I've had it with the Foreign Media making bad publicity in our country. well, our fault anyways, we let this thing going and now we faces consequences.

Well, due to rolando mendoza hostage taking crisis. Tourist said that philippines is the most dangerous country in south east asia. Killed a lots of tourists. Well im a filipino myself but im really pissed of the performance of the armed forces. Well unlike the other countries, compare the performance of its armed forces to the armed forces here. Its just so pathetic that they blame media. Laugh out loud.
On topic. Yeah. News said that philippines is the possible target of the terrorist because of the allliance in U.S. But our "armed forces" said that theres nothing to worry about the terrorist attacks here. "Laughing out loud" again. Well i can't help myself laughing because of that stupid act of our "armed forces" Hahaha!. Just my 2 cents. They are just good in showoff. :)

Hi! I am also a Filipino, though I might agree that the way our "SWAT" handled the hostage crisis was total blunder, I cannot agree that our country is dangerous for tourists. It was an isolated incident, so I hope it doesn't negate the good things in our country. I hope you do not put our government down because of one incident.
Regarding the travel advisory, I guess it is understandable IF they really had intelligence reports about a possible terror attack in the Philippines. Any country, even the US with one of the best armed forces, isn't immune to terrorist attacks.

I also heard this terrible news earlier. Of course, to think that I'm living here in Phil, I am really scared. I'm just javing so many thoughts in my mind right now. I wonder... When will be the time wherein the Philippines would be a better and peaceful place to live in? :|

yes. i agree with buragee. I watched the hostage drama and i felt bad for my fellows, the so called SWAT team are coward, what happened to their practice?.. I am also a filipino and i feel very sorry for the victims of my fellow. I am so disappointed. Anyway, if the government heard about the possible attack of the terrorist, i hope they have plans for this. I am so worried.
