I was logging out to my yahoo mail. And this disrepectful news comes to my screen. I never disrespect people in all kind of race. I respect them as I could possibly be. And now I saw this kind of incident.
Shame to this lady name, Lady Da Hae.
We all start from being illiterate. I hope she understand the word what she is saying.

As a Filipino,I believed that I personally would not really focus on it but just to forgive and a forgiver to that Korean actress. Its just happen that an actress was in the national television and the show should be aware of any rules or maybe if they don't have the rule about the ethics of airing in that kind of situation.Koreans here in the Philippines especially here in our city loved to stay here in our place to study English and it serves as one profits by our government even it contributes a small means to our taxes.Koreans are still people that I should understand even sometimes they abuses their rights and should follow the law here in the Philippines more importantly in our vicinity. As a catholic country,We cannot even give assurance that we as the sovereignty people will be silent about this but to try to reach out that a certain case like this is a foul to us.I personally don't discriminate races, skin or regional accent or any I may say regional defects because I am aware of these rights.Maybe because, correct me if I am wrong, south Koreans should respect us as Asian. We are not blue eyed man or with blond hair when we were born, even though we are more Spanish than Asian in culture,we should respect any races.

That's their problem if they don't respect us. i wonder, if some of our people are racist now in our third world state, what more if we become a First World country. just my opinion here
I, myself prefer us Filipinos to stop being racist to each other. . that's a start.

I think we, Filipinos, overreacted a little on this issue. I watched the video just now and read the apology. It was said that there really was no mention of Filipinos when she did the "stint". Oh, I don't speak Korean, so I really wouldn't know. Even so, most Filipinos or Asians for that matter speaks English that way -- with a certain distinctive accent. Funny or annoying as it may sound, a typical Filipino do indeed sound that way. Only those who were able to go to(good) schools, speak with a certain "Twang", an accent that sounded either American or British. Even those working in call centers fake the accent to sound foreign. Sounding Foreign does not brand us as Filipinos. We have natural accents which we should be proud of. We are too self-centered and proud to accept criticisms that bursts our egos.
Just a thought: Aren't we Filipinos guilty of discriminating our fellow Pinoys, too? (E.g., The Manila/City dwellers against the Visayas, the Cebuanos.) I think it is very hypocritical for us to violently react on this, when in truth, we make fun of ourselves and fellow Filipinos in our own Nation.

I think that was very well said pillow08. I could not find the video anymore but I read the apology and she did have a logical explanation to what could have really happened. No cause to give this matter too much attention.
Filipinos are capable of achieving a neutral accent. And I am proud to say too that there are Filipinos who have made it quite well in news broadcasting in the US.
And yes, you are right in saying that we too can sometimes be discriminating towards our non-Tagalog speaking countrymen.

Thank you, blungel0830. They deleted the videos in youtube -- copyright. I am actually a Chinese raised here in the Philippines. I don't have a single drop of Pinoy blood in me but I love Philippines and the Filipino people. I, too, take offense when other people say false and harsh things about our country. We have to be open-minded and accepting of criticisms and take it positively to improve ourselves. Besides, we have so much talent and beauty in us to be affected by such issues.
This issue is a non-issue.
I am a Proud Pinay.

Right, it's not an issue at all. Sometimes we Filipinos get so onion-skinned when in fact we are our worst discriminators. And, that was just one Korean. It was in bad taste, alright, but she apologized and learned from her mistake (I hope). And, there could be truth to what she said about the way we speak English, but that's not our native tongue, so we cannot be expected to perfect it. My initial reaction, too, was to be defensive. I even said that the reason they prefer learning English here is because it's easier for them to understand our English compared to native speakers. But, then, I realized that what's the point of being defensive? And,yes, you're right we have so much more talent and beauty to be bothered by an issues such as that.

I didn't find the whole thing offensive. But if she apologized already, then apology accepted. We do it all the time, making fun of other people. We even make fun of Waray and Bisaya. We always associate their accent with maids and drivers. So lets not overreact. Its not she said Filipinos are one-eyed monsters... Oh, Claire Danes said that.

Hello syoti,
no wonder the youtube movie was removed I must asked, why shame to this lady. you know we do have korean in the Noon time show in our local network and he gets ridiculed all the time, yet he doesn't complain about it.
as for this, maybe if we are NOT racist ourselves then i would complain about. but some of us are racist, even to our own other Filipino Tribles.we are always SENSITIVE to things, and yet we always react.
SHe's just a star, we don't have time for people like that. the only thing we apologize for i think was the mendoza disaster but we never apologize to other racist remarks that we ALSO with foreigners.

I agree with you. I mean we love doing it to other races. Most of us call Japanese sakang, Intsik singkit, we imitate how they speak tagalog or English in all gag shows. You are talking about Ryan Bang and he gets ridiculed everyday and he just doesn't care. If we get ridiculed because of our own language and cultural belief then maybe its okay to be angry but its a language not even our own. And how many Visayan have been laugh at because of their accent? I remember Pnoys speech writer and he twitted not so nice things about the host country and they didn't respond at all. We really shouldn't react to all issue especially if its super petty.

The koreans are really beautiful people, nice skin, beautiful faces. I don't think a single korean's joke would change the way how I admire the koreans. . Besides there's Grace Lee to compensate for her. Let's just accept that we all have our differences. Let' just stop being too "onion skinned", maybe i would react in a negative way if the actress's comment is about something else, but with the way how we speak english? no. If she thinks we are the worst then that's opinion. After all, English is not our native language.

No, maybe not in terms of speaking in English. but with the attitude problem, i think. sometimes, i wonder, what's the real essence if being a Filipino beides, the tradition, or language. in United States, some Filipino Americans are discriminated by other Filipino Americans for not speaking tagalog

syoti, have you read the full article??? it was not her fault. she was trying to tell a joke / entertain her audience by saying how different Americans, british and asian folks speak in english. and the translation which was done on the television was a mistake, they specifically placed Philippine Teachers when in fact Ms. Lady Da Hae did not mention such name, she said Asians instead of Philippine teachers and it was not meant to insult anyone, it was just showing how different people speak. She even apologized at the end of the article.
i was also upset when i saw the headline but i read the full article and understood it wasnt her fault but the one who translated the words.

i've read the entire article.. the question to her by the host is pretty simple..Even if i don't understand korean language, I've heard them mentioning Filipino.
they were asking her to mimic how Filipino English teacher speaks in English.
She did apologize, but never really admitted her mistake.
I'll repeat what I've said earlier. It's not the mimicking that is insulting at all,
it's the idea of making us their laughing stuffs and object of mockery that i cannot swallow.
i hope i made you understand where the anger is coming from.

might be. i have not seen the video. but then honestly, though the insult hurts, there is a growing number of Filipino teachers who really do not know how to speak properly. and that is the truth there is very little support from our dumb as* government, and honestly we do not have quality teachers at all, i always end up arguing with my son and daughter's teachers because they have wrong grammar and to think they are teaching in a private school. so it must be something that we, especially those in the government should learn, give more support for education especially our teachers. we do have quality teachers but its number is decreasing. We would not be laughing the laughing stock of other countries if we prove them that we can be higher than them.

It's now big deal. Filipinos are racists as well, we invented the term "bumbay" and associated it with "5-6" and DVDs. We ridicule people with Visayan accent and we are generally judgmental to Muslims.
No big deal really...

Ok, then I'll just speak for the both of us. In an earlier comment (I think it's page 3) you said that you were also making such jokes... in private, with friends.
On the other hand, making fun of someone whether in private or in public won't make any difference. No sin is smaller or less serious. Peace out!

I agree with you. It was just a simple joke. You know how showbiz works right? We just made a big deal out of it. If you get insulted of it, then it must be true. If not, then you believe it's just a joke since you yourself is literate of the English Language.

You call shame onto her in spite of the title you gave to this post which happens to read "Lee Da apologizes to Filipinos"? She's already apologized and you still condemn her.
I think we should all get over it and learn forgiveness. I am saddened that someone should comment carelessly on Twitter, but who are we to judge anyway? Everyone has an accent. Like my Ilocano parents have accents.

maryjane- first of all, the mimicking is perfectly fine, i personally have no issues about that if she thinks Filipino English teachers speaks that way, even if she did it purposely on national TV,,it's fine.
but what i can't swallow is the idea that they are looking at us like laughing stuffs.. and about the apology, have read it?.. she never admitted any mistake at all
and she even lied that they edited it..although it was clear and you can hear it yourself from the video, the host is asking her to mimic FILIPINO English teachers.

did she say that filipinos are illiterate people? im sorry for that. im not filipina but i love pinoy people^^ they are sweet and good people. and for sure they are not illiterate people. she shouldnt offend them bcs she doesnt even know what they been through in their country. i know that there people have to fight to have a good life. so she should instead say that pinoy are brave to work to have a good life instead of say that. im sorry that she offended you guys like that. she should really go to phillipines for awhile and see that things arent easy and that some people cant even afford their studies. before she judges she should know things better. im happy that she apologised and i wish that those apologies are from her heart. dont be sad with what she said neither any filipinos be sad. you are honest and sweet people^^

Amen to that Caleb. I couldn't agree more. The thing with other Filipinos, they're just to engrossed with Koreanovelas...LOL. That's why they can't see the gravity of such hit to us. It's not her directly but the whole operation was too prejudiced. To think that a lot of them come to our country just to learn English. LOL.

i saw the video and it was really disappointing, im not offended by her mimicking some filipino who really speaks that way, but what pissed me of entirely is the idea that they are using filipino as their laughing stuffs, an object of ridicule and mockery. that i cannot swallow, i had a hard time sleeping after i saw the video.

Hi! I'm sorry, but who is Lee Da Hae?
If she is talking about our proficiency in English, then why are so many Koreans here learning English from us? Oh well, I actually have Korean friends from school, and they are a bunch of fun people. They teach us basic Korean words (even the bad ones LOL) and we teach them Filipino and English.
I agree, we shouldn't be too sensitive about these racial comments because we too are guilty of racial slurs in the form of a joke. Let's just take them in stride and learn how to shrug it off. This is not to say that we should ignore everything, but we should know when to ignore them and when to defend our selves. :)

That's right. I think Koreans are jealous of us because we don't have a hard time learning the English language. We may have difficulty in pronouncing words, but once we take our IELTs, poof! Coco crunch! We sound like we are from a foreign country. As for them, they have to practice it here.

Lee Da Hae is an actress and she should be aware of her actions and words onscreen. It was offensive to me. And what's funny was that they were making fun of the Filipino english accent when in fact, most koreans don't speak ENGLISH at all! They even hire Filipino teachers to teach them basic english. The two hosts who were asking them don't speak english fluently too so why make fun of others right? For me, they don't have any right to bash Filipinos. I used to like Lee Da Hae but now I have reservations. I realized that she didn't care about her Filipino fans.

I really don't understand why Filipinos got furious with what she said. And, I really did not understand what Lee Da Hae said, our flag was just at the bottom part of the screen but i think she didn't say the word "Philippines" and what she really did was a Japanese english accent.
And come on, we also ridicule other race as well not just privately but also on national tv. If you watch gag shows then you'll see what I mean.
