We always get attached to things. Though we are born alone, we get attached slowly to our parents, then to toys, friends, lovers and memories. We get conditioned to attachments so much that we believe that life can only be lived with them.
But the real pleasure to a fulfilling life is to be alone. Association brings in sadness, association brings in longing and association brings in displeasure. But still we persue material things in search of happiness.

That's why sociologists say that the environment we grow up in is important. It's like eighty to ninety percent, i think of our experiences that helps us shape our self. It's human nature, i guess.

Without any environment it's dull. Even monks live in an environment. So the answer is no, we can't live without any environment.
