My favorite has always been Green Eggs and Ham.
At the elementary schools, here where I live, they have a special day each year to celebrate Dr. Seuss. The kids always look forward to it, and they even have someone go into the school dressed as the Cat in the Hat who reads Dr. Seuss books to the students.

This is a great idea. Dr. Suess books are a great way to learn to read....with the small words, the rhyming etc. Kids love them!

When my children were younger, i read all of the Dr.Seuss books to them. When they were of reading age, they read them to themselves. His books were such a joy for parent and child. His books were a good introduction into the world of reading for so many. My children never tired of the cat in the hat and green eggs and ham.

Dr. Suess was/is awesome! He was a super cartoonist too (I have a book on him other than his Dr. Seuss self). I remember my friend had a collection of Dr. Seuss books and I was so envious of that collection for many years. So as an adult, I started making my own collection - and now my daughter reads many of them! I have too many favorites - but Green Eggs and Ham has to be one of them, Sam, I am! Horton Hears A Who - How The Grinch Stole Christmas - Mr. Brown Can Moo . . . oh I just have to love all of them. I love his crazy writing and illustrations!

We have many favorites here. My favorite is Hand, Hand, Finger, Thumb. I have read it to my daughter so many times I don't need the book anymore. Her favorites are There's a wocket in my pocket, just read green eggs and ham a few minutes ago, Mr Brown can Moo can You, In a People House, The foot book, The Cat in the hat, the lorax. She also has some Dr Suess movies that she love I can't tell you how many times we have watched Horton Hears a Who, I have to admit I like the movie better than the book. She has the lorax, the cat in the hat, The sneetches, the cat in the hat. I have already gotten her quite the collection of Dr Suess books and when I find them I pick them up. I really wish that kids books weren't so expensive but I have found a lot of them 2nd hand for good prices. And my mom always taught me that you have to read them quick so that is what I do when I hear my husband read them to her it just sounds weird.

i agree with you there...I think it is my favorite as well. I don;t remember having these books when I was a kid in the late 60's and early 70's, but I have a 20 and 14 year old and I bought and read to them. I have saved the Dr. Suess book to read to my grand-children....someday.

I assume that Theodore Geisel was in fact a doctor and that is why he called himself Dr. Seuss? I didnt realize that he wrote AND illustrated his own books. Most the time now a days people either write them or draw them but usually not both. I think it takes a huge amount of talent to be able to do both. I also think it takes even more talent to be able to create more then one book. If I was able to create one book I think all my ideas would be washed up in that one book and I wouldnt be able to think of anymore to write for the next book. I dont have a favorite book I like so many of them and so do my children. They are great for kids!

I really don't think that there is a person alive that hasn't at least read one book by Dr. Seuss. That said, I believe that my favorite would have to be Green Eggs and Ham if we are talking about my favorite year round. However, when it is close to Christmas like it is right now, I will have to say that I absolutely love How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I really think that there are great lessons for a person to learn from that book.
