My baby is turning 5 and we think it's time to start giving him baby food. We recently bought a baby food processor but don't know where to start. We'll be consulting a pedia as well but We just want gettig advices from people who have hands-on experiences.

If this is the first time that your baby will be getting solids, most pediatricians will recommend that you start with rice cereal. The reason for this is because of the fact that it is the one food that babies are the least likely to have allergies to. In addition to that, it is also something that you have quite a bit of control over the consistency of. A lot of pediatricians will not recommend that you start fruits and vegetables until the baby is about 7-8 months of age.

Yes, you're right. I was advised to give cereals but it has to wait until he's 6 months old.

My baby's pedia advised me to start introducing solid foods at the age of six month, She said that the reason behind this is that by that time the baby's extrusion reflex (when baby sticks out his tonge when something touches the tip of his tongue) is gone, and by that time the baby can now sit up straight and his stomach has already matured and ready for solid foods. I also read from a parenting book that you should introduce food one type at a time for example this week you can try dry cereals (ready made stage one food for babies), next mashed potato, next mashed squash. this is to check if baby might have allergy on specific foods. I hope I was able to help.

Talk to your doctor first before you give your baby any type of food. They say that you are not supposed to start giving babyfood to a child until at least 6 months old.

You can try mashed bananas, papaya, mango, carrots, squash, or any other soft fruits and veggies. And don't forget baby cereals.

I will definitely try those, thanks. I just have to wait til he reaches 7 or 8 months for the fresh fruits & veggies.

when my son (now almost 2) started baby food we started with old fasoned gerber 1st foods, but we did experiment with processing and I recomend starting on baby cereal and maybe some fruit we go through 6 pounds of bannanas in about 7 or 8 days apples or always good (stay away from citrus) but over all just listen to the doctor and your own common sense.
