Seeing poverty is not my hobby at all. But, whenever I go, the sounds of the poor really haunt and terrorize my ears. What can I do? I'm just a poor student who now try to be self-standing. I really want to eradicate poverty, especially in my country first. It is nice to hear one of our famous singer saying something like 'if one rich man helps one poor man, poverty will vanish' It sounds simplifying, but for me really makes sense. Our country got more than 100 millions poor citizens of the total citizens reaching 230 millions. What do you think??

Really? Where are you from? I think it would be great if it happens. But in the end it depends on the people there. Are they willing to help?

Haha! We're in the same boat then. Well then let's start from ourselves. We may not change the world but we can make a difference :)

I recently read that if all the money was distributed evenly to everyone, within 7 years all those who were poor before, would be poor again, and those who had the money before, would once again have it all back. This tells me that the poor are poor because they are content with being poor, and those who are rich are only happy when they have much money. In this life we strive to get what we want the most!

I feel each trip starts with the first step. If you can just do one thing to help no matter how small this will snowball into something really big with time. If you don't take that one step all your good will won't help anyone. Blessings.

It would be perfect if we all had the same... unfortunately that is never going to happen. So my friend the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Sad but true

Kudos to you for wanting to help the poor and eradicating poverty! I admire you for having such a practical and realistic dream when you're still young. Well, I would say that first, you have to study hard and now that you know what you want, arm yourself with all the knowledge required and work towards your goal. I hope the world can be full of helpful people like you so that this can be a better place. But sadly, there's only a minute amount of people who are really willing to lend a helping hand.

Ya you have a very noble thought, but the thing is that only helping them financially won't help. Because thats what our country's government had been trying and with a failure all the time.
What I really think is that they should be given financial literacy, it will help them immensely in my opinion.
Please read this book; Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert.T.Kiyosaki, you will find it quite interesting and you can then share the knowledge...

The fact alone that you were thinking of helping other people is already being a noble person. If you get successful someday then continue to have this nice thoughts of helping people in you OWN LITTLE way and it will make a big difference in their lives. I wish and hope for your success.

I also like to help poor people from poverty. But i'm helpless. I don't have much money to spend. It is possible by making a union and collecting money in different ways. If you are active, energetic and have helping mentality, you can eradicate poverty of your country. In my country also many people are under poverty line. But i'm helpless. I'm an Indian housewife depending my husband for daily bread!!!!!!!!!

Poverty is indeed one of the social problems we are encountering today. It has long been a social dilemma that up until now, it has never been properly addressed. Every government has something to say about this issue, every country's government has their own plan to solve this problem. We may not be so sure if all these will work indeed, but we have to admit, poverty is truly difficult to eradicate. It will take a very long process for it to be achieved. If this is the case, then we should at least try to lessen it. Maybe in that way, taking it step by step, we will end up eradicating poverty in the future for real. Finding or understanding the root cause/s of poverty is a crucial step. I think that by doing this, people could plan for solutions that will not just last for a short period of time, they will be long-term solutions that will work well on fighting poverty. As an individual, I believe we can all do something about it. We can do our part in fighting poverty in our own countries. I do agree on the mentioned phrase, "if one man helps one poor man, poverty will vanish". It does make sense. Furthermore, I think we also have to elaborate on how we'll be able to help poor people. I think it's not really the best idea to just give an amount of money to a poor person or give alms every time we see a street person or beggar, though it is still helpful of course. This kind of help is only for a short time, it wouldn't really change their lives. Soon, they may just go back begging for alms or money. Some of them may even use it for bad things or activities especially when they have bad habits or vices. If we have the means, I think it's better to help these people by assisting them to find ways to start earning by themselves. If we are able, we could help them start their own small business. We could send them in different livelihood development programs and learn and develop skills like crafts making, food making, etc. then give them some capital to start a small-scale business or home-based business. If we can't give financial aid, we could volunteer in different organizations that help poor people like free education for little children which focuses on helping them to read and write at least, also in livelihood projects for adults, medical missions, food missions, etc. We could give our services to them for free. We could also refer these impoverished families or persons to appropriate government departments or organizations that can further help. We should just be aware of the many ways or options on how we can be of help to these people. We could help them start over again, we could inspire them, give them more hope; we could act on this problem and stop playing the role of an apathetic citizen or person. If we'll only do our part, if each of us will do something about it, if one person will help one poor person, just imagine how much change or difference it makes for the society, for the whole world, considering that there's many of us who are still more blessed than them. =)

Based from experience I learned that there are two kinds of being poor. First one is some people are poor because of circumstances beyond their control like when their country is in a war, or they are handicapped or mentally sick, etc. The second group is poor because they wanted to be poor like those people just lying around, waiting for a hand-out saying it is their right to be fed and given things that hey haven't worked for. Most of the second group are healthy they just don't want to work. Now if we can change the mind set of the second group half of the battle on poverty is won. Helping the first group is rewarding while helping the second group is depressing because there is no end to it.

I say you go with your plan. Who knows, you might be the hero everyone is waiting for. Every poor man is waiting for one.
