Christmas is near and rushing! I can feel the spirit of Christmas and here so many Christmas song! I have more than 10 Godchildren, my gosh they are accumulating every year. So to save time, money and energy I am thinking of less christmas gift shopping, I will give cash instead to others but not big amount. I think they need it more that gifts that they might not use at all. How bout you?

Hello! I still don't have any gifts on my closet at all. I do love to make other people happy by sharing something to them every holiday season. Me and my husband have a long long lists of names, he had 40+ godchildren and I had 30+. We still have office mates, relatives, who are always present in our house during Christmas. One of this days, I should shop for gifts because its a major thing to do for it requires lots of time I guess. Just like you, I gave cash most often to our god children for they need that better than the gifts. Have a nice week end!

I tend to buy stuff all year round, partly to save the last minute rush, to spread the cost and to get things which I may see but may not be in the shops later. I do not buy gifts for a lot of people and will give a mixture of cash/vouchers/small 'fun' gifts and things that I feel confident that the recipient will like. Most of what I've bought so far is already wrapped.

I have started to think about Christmas as I work in retail. Halloween night we were busy resetting the entire store with christmas signage. We've also started a big push to sell gift sets as well.
Right now I am away from home. It will be expensive to send gifts to my parents and friends. My brother also moved far away. I'm also broke because I've been recently trave ling and I also got in a little car accident and have to pay for my car to be fixed.
I have been working on a scrapbook for my mom for the past yea.r and its almost complete so that will be her christmas gift. Only its a little late more than it is early.
I think this year I will make Christmas cards for my friends and family and send those out.

I'm gonna spend my Christmas bonus for christmas gift, that's the only resource I have. Lucky that in your culture card is enough while in our tradition Godchildren needs to be given a gift, toys, clothes or cash. They come to your door with their families, you cannot escape.

And another year has gone by and it is almost christmas again and we all got through last years so I am sure we will get through this years too, as far as gifts go. I usually just give money because most of my gift giving is to almost adults. In our family we only give gifts to the nieces and nephews till they reach the age of 18. The reason for this was and is because we all have a few children and there are a lot of us siblings so there is a lot of nieces and nephews. It was just getting so costly for us that we had to do something to make it less expensive. A lot of the kids were born a far apart in age, for example, my kids are 36 and 28 years old and my one sisters kids are 17 and 18 years old.
So now I only have one nephew left that is 17 and no nieces left under 18 so I only have the one to get for so I just give him money as I wouldn't know what to buy him anyways as I live far away from them all. Then I have my own two kids, my 36 year old and my 28 year old so I give them money also and I have a granddaughter that I buy gifts for. I buy gifts for her all year round and mail them to her.
My biggest gift I will recieve this year is the presence of my family...especially my granddaughter. I am driving for 13 hours to spend christmas with my family, from Calgary to Winnipeg. I am so excited to see my granddaughter as I haven't seen her since Easter other than by skyping.
Good luck my friend and happy mylotting
Chris

I only have one godchild. I live in Canada and most people here only have one or two godchildren. I know in other cultures people have many and it sounds like you have many. The main reason we have godchildren is if something happens to the parents then the godmother raises the child. Is it the same where you come from?

Hi Chris,
This my discussion was made a year ago and I'm glad you comment on this. Me, I haven't bought anything for my Godchildren. I have growing numbers of Godchildren, most are still children. I think they are more than 10 already. I don't know how to fit my allowance. For other in awkward stage to receive gift, I will just give money. To My family, don't know if I will give to all of them, we are huge families so I will sure a spot to my mother and sister.

I don't have any baby. So when Christmas are coming, I don't need to prepair anything. At that time, my wife and I go out to see the spirit of Christmas, take some foods and then go home to watch TV. Do you think we are bored when Christmas night!

Honestly I think so, it's never be the same without kids around although I am not really fond of kids but I love my nieces and nephews. Don't you have other relative aside from your wife or godsons and goddaughters to give a present?

Well, I live far away from my family so we don't have any relative aside from us. We usually don't give any present at that day. because we don't follow Christian! It's time for us to have fun and pray for peace and happy!

Oh no! I forgot I have a godchild now! Thanks for reminding. I don't know what to give her. She's a year old this December. I think I'll be saving now to buy her a shirt. I don't know what a 12 month old child needs. I got to search for it.

Haha, it's a good thing I brought this topic for you. Me, I can't forget it cause they are more than 10 now. I think a dress is ok as gift or maybe a stuff toy. You can also buy things like drinking mug or a meal set.

I have bought exactly 4 gifts. I have so many more to buy! I am already starting to feel like I'm going to spend too much. I was going to be very careful this year, but I love getting people what they really want, which means I overspend! My plan is to buy a few gifts a week and spread the debt out a bit! LOL! I am not really worried. I usually have it all covered fairly well. Good luck to you!

Seems like your very relaxed when it comes to giving and buying gifts, I am freaking out here. I don't know if my money will fit to all the people that I need to give a present.

I have done so well this year! I started shopping late in October and my daughter and I have been going out once a week just to do Christmas shopping. It’s been great because we have slowly just about bought everything we need while spending some good quality time together! I am fortunate because having a very small family I don’t have to buy a lot of gifts, just my parents, my sister, my brother in law, my niece, three friends and two children. That is not a lot of people compared to some!

No I haven't bought any Christmas gifts yet and I hope that I will somehow be able to conjure up enough money to be able to get all of the great people in my life that deserve a gift just to show them my appreciation for them existing and all that they do for me. All of them will understand if I can't come up with the money of course, but I still don't feel very good when I'm not able to make someone really happy with a nice gift. They are just materials but it really is the thought that counts in the end I suppose.
Anyways I'm kind of struggling coming up with the money because I have college tuition due on December 1st and I know that should be at least an easy high 800 to 900 dollars. The most frustrating thing is that the semester I'm currently taking won't be done until the 17th, and the next semester doesn't actually start until January. It just kind of frustrates me that they are making me pay so early even though the next semester isn't anywhere close. So that's making my holiday spending plans a tad bit harder but as long as I don't worry about it things usually end up working out somehow :)

Atleast you already have half of the gift, me I will start in December, as long as I have money in the pocket, I saw some great items with cheaper price.

Cash is a good thing to give this Christmas because of the crisis we are experiencing now. But i guess it only applies to those who have a lot of money to give and for those Godchildren who are not choosy. I think i can save more if i buy something cheaper but with good quality. Although the time is really hard to save if i do this...

My plans is to give gifts to my little godchildren and cash to those teeners. OH man, it's really hard to tighten my budget but there is nothing I can do. We just have to be wiser now.

i normally buy a lot of mine in the january sales that we have as things are so cheap and i save quite a lot of money, i then get a few more around october and anything after that will just be bargains that i see like big tins of chocolate that can come in handy as a gift.

Hi Laniekins
I started my Gift shopping in June so I have done now
In my case I have bought something every Month and well I am near enough done now
Money is fine but I still think a little Gift with it is something for keeps
Giving money is the easiest way yes but I think it takes away the spirit of seeing happy faces when they see what they have got but that is just me lol I like to see the Faces light up when they open the presents

Hello! As much as I wanted to give them the best gift but since the count of my Christmas gift list is long, I have to make a decision to tighten my budget. It's hard to please kids nowadays, they may expecting a good gift so it it's a wrong choice to buy cheaper ones.

Not yet, we're starting this month. We live in Hawaii so we have to mail them to our family. Gotta give the postman time to deliver them, we will probably send clothes and gift cards since those are easier to buy and pack. We think Christmas is for the kids anyway, if I want something I'll go buy it. I don't need Santa to do it.

Receiving gift is for children while giving gift is for adult. We are the Santa for the kids. I also buy my own stuff cause nobody will do it for me.

I am pretty much done with my Christmas shopping! I have a few last minute things to get (like lottery tickets) and then I am done. I have to start early because I get a lot of things delivered and when it starts to snow, no-one can get down my driveway to deliver packages. Money or gift cards are always a good idea. That way people can get what they want. Instead of you giving them a gift they don't really want or need.
I usually make Christmas presents but my godchild just had a baby and I have been working on a baby blanket for her, and was afraid I wouldn't get any other projects finished.

If only I have cash right now I would probably buy gifts for my Godchildren and family. There are many cute items that are on sale in the malls. But my money was already budgeted for my tuition and monthly payment for my braces. Whew! Maybe I'll buy gifts on mid December.
