Need to Increase Website traffic

I'm planning to launch a website and I'm looking forward to generate some revenue through advertisements. How do I assure that my site get enough hits. I'm aware of a few of them like, adword, socialmarker etc. Any other idea?

Search Engine Optimization. Do you know why websites go belly up? Because their webmasters have no clue on how to get targeted traffic. Sure you can spend hundreds of dollars in adwords and get some traffic but why do that when you can get absolutely free highly converting traffic through SEO.
Do research on the internet on this one.
