What would be the best material gift that you can give away?

They say that the best gift is something that you would feel hurt to give away. If you were to give a material thing away, something that you owned and loved and has a very big sentimental value, what would it be? Mine would be my guitar. It is basically my best friend because I have it with me all the time and it's my companion in times of joys and pains. If I would be asked to give it away for a noble purpose, I would, but it would break my heart.

Hi dear,
It is my camera and music system. Both are my dignified things and I like to listen music the way I want and have ultimately selected with my own preference and requirements. Like camera also, it is my dream camera and I love anything like. New brands and makes are available with advance and technically well with all these things. But, presently want I am using is my pet and if I lost these in any chance, as you said, it will break my heart.
Also, most of the things I used is like that and I love all the belonging what I have. I think like you and me, everyone may have the same opinion on their belongings with some kind of attachment related to something.
Regards,
Thank-s

Oh, I could just imagine your sacrifice if you give away those treasures because for me, it will be very hard. But I guess, if you donate it for a good cause, your heartbreak will not be in vain.

Hi dear,
You are absolutely right. If it is for a good cause the pain would be some kind of soothing words.
Thanks for your comments.

Thank-s

my play station portable and i already gave it away as a gift to my little sister
it hurts a lot as i got nothing in return, and till this day she sees it as a right not a gift, she disrespects me and at times completely ignores me , it's as if the PSP
was the only thing keeping her in control, to bad i can't get it back , a gift given to a loved one is a gift from the heart , it can cause you both pain and happiness...

Very well said. It can cause give us joy if well appreciated, but sadness if not. I hope you're little sister will acknowledge and appreciate your act of generosity someday.

Now a laptop is also one thing very personal that's so hard to give away. Aside from being expensive, it also is already a companion to most. I guess giving away your guitar was an act of sacrifice, in my opinion. I don't know if I can ever give away mine . . . maybe to someone so dear to me, yes.

Hm, I am not sure that is true. That the best things hurt to be given away, I mean. I think the best gifts are things that are really meaningful, and something that the reciever really wants or needs, probably something they always wanted to have, but did not want to splurge on, due to the cost or it not being useful enough or something. To get something you really want, but could not get yourself, from someone else, is the best thing ever!

I absolutely love your take on that, puccagirl. But for me, I would be silently weeping I guess if I give something that I can't even afford to buy for myself. But yeah, that is the true essence of giving. Thanks for sharing a very valuable insight.

Oh yeah, a diary is way too personal and valuable to give away. Unless when you want it to be published, you need to share it with someone who will write your biography. Just a thought . . .

If at any circumstances that no choice but to give something that is valuable for me, it think it would be my monkey stufftoy. Get all my stufftoy but not that one. That one is much older than my kids because that was the first gift I received from my husband. hehe but willing to let it go if need be. Have a good day!

Oh boy, stuffed toys are very hard to let go especially if they have sentimental value. Even if you replace it with another one that's exactly the same, it's not really the same 'cause the replacement doesn't come with the memories. Hope you won't have to give it away. Cheers!

To me gifts need not be cute all the time, but have to be useful. That would be the best material gift I can think. I would always prefer something useful like a shirt or pen or any stuff that the person might use rather than a show piece or a doll.

the best gift i want to give a friend is the ipod touch. this is a very great gadget, especially for a person who loves to listen songs and read ebooks.
this is a great companion if you are alone...

I can't think of anything that would be hard for me give. basically, I can let go of things that I have now if it would be for a good purpose. Biblically I know that the Lord would give it back a hundred folds, pressed down, shaken together and running over. But as I have said, no problem giving it for as long as it is for a good purpose. Have a nice day!

Hello theredquill,
Nice, appreciatable, admirable plan. Do it and don't wait for someone to ask you from doing it. Tell me then after and i will share with you my experience.
Its a good timing. Merry Christmas in advance!!!
Usually people give the excess one.

Ah, that is a very tough challenge, my friend. I know it's always better to give than to receive. But I will have to muster all my courage to give away my precious, precious guitar. God help me. I will tell you if I will finally give it away . . . but I can't promise anything. Hehe. I am looking forward to sharing with us your experience though. Merry Christmas to you too.
