Is US ready for a Female President? What do you think?

Since the nomination of Sarah Palin as a vice-presidential candidate, theories, rumors, speculation about a female president has been circulating around. Some people didn't vote GOP because they are afraid Palin will become the President if something happens to McCain. And speaking of possible female candidates we only have a few of them. The question is are they strong, knowledgeable and diplomatic enough to lead this country and the free world. Some other countries like Britain and Israel had a female Head of State at one time or another and they did fine. So what do you think?

Although there have been nations that have elected women to their respective high offices. It should be pointed out that on the whole at an international level, it has been the exception and not the rule. Briton has had one. Canada has had only one (and she did not serve a full term). Pakistan has had one. Germany has had one. The Philippines has had 2. And India has had only one. As to your direct question, "Is US ready for a Female President?" I think we are beyond the point in this country of this even being a question. The fact that it hasn't happened yet is merely a matter of statistics. We only elect a president every 4 years. In the last cycle, Only Hillary Clinton threw her name in the ring for a major party in the primaries. And only the Green party had one throw her name in for a third party (the ticket was ineligible as her running mate was under the constitutional age requirement). I will vote for any candidate that demonstrates the proper adherence to our constitution and the principals laid out by our founders and has the ability to carry these out, female or otherwise.

My religious convictions are against a woman leading the country for the same reason they shouldn't lead a family it isn't the way God would have it. That is yet anouther reason I voted against Obama. I see nothing wrong with a female vice president. Obviously the situation could arise where Palin could have to take office but that is a fairly remote possiblity and the fact of the matter is we are running out of options with the country in the state that it's in what have we got to lose? The state of the union address should be intresting my guess is that Obama will get a few favorable statistics and twist them untill they are unrecogniseable and use them to twist the situation. I mean, that would be the liberal thing to do. (these people are so predictable) but is the US ready for a female president? the sad part is no matter what your convictions on the subject no matter what your beliefs a female, a black, a mexican, a little green man from mars, couldn't do a much better job then what's being done now I don't agree with it but I believe that if Palin ran for president I wouldn't vote for her in the primary but against Obama? Definately whether are not we are ready I don't know but if you are asking "what does the country have to lose from a female president? the answer at this point is nothing.

"My religious convictions are against a woman leading the country for the same reason they shouldn't lead a family" Ok, I have to ask....what religion do you follow that dictates this?

X- a lot of religions feel that way unforunately. Why, I have no idea. Women are just as smart as men and just as able to be good leaders. FYI- I am the leader of my family. My hubby will even tell people that I am "the brains of this operation" (our family).

I am Southern Baptist x. lilwonders to be honest with you if your husband seriously feels that you are the one in charge then he isn't fullfilling his role as a man. it isn't a matter of who is more competant. it is a matter of who was given the role of leading the household. When Adam and Eve sinned and were hiding in the Garden of Eden it was Adam that God called for not Eve and their is a reason why. It was Adam that was supposed to keep his family away from evil not Eve. So it was Adam that had to answer for what happened with his family. God never asked Eve why she did what she did just Adam. Also in Ephesians 5:22 Paul clearly lays out the roles of husband and wife. A wife is supposed to submitt to her husband. but this is NOT a ticket for a man to turn his wife into a slave the very next verse tels us that a husband is supposed to love his wife as Christ loved the church (be willing to die for her) A man's leadership in the family is a management position not a kingship. a burden not a gift.

America definitely is a world power. In world politics, women still have a long way to go! They are aware that men already dominate the world, so once a super power country like America gets into the hands of a feminine like Palin, we are most likely to see some very drastic decisions taken not necessarily out of reason, but out of the desire to show men that a woman can be powerful-I fear that with such a mentality, a woman president in America could easily spark off World War III!

You could probably be right because I've read in some journals that some women are driven by emotions but I hope a woman President of America is reasonable enough not to spark off a World War III.

Are we ready for a female president? That depends on who the candidates are. We should not elect a female just because other countries have. If we should elect a female president, I hope we do a better job than we did in the last presidential election and elect her on her qualification and platform and not because she's a female.

The democrats could have elected Hilary Clinton in their primary if they had wanted to. But they chose Obama. But I really don't think it has anything to do with the gender of the candidate. I would like to think this country does not base their decision to vote on a candidate's gender. By the way...we have a female in one of the most powerful positions of our government. Speaker of the House...Nancy Pelosi. All said she has more control than the President when it comes to how bills are written, what bills come up for a vote and things like that. Which is not saying much...she has been a nightmare.

I agree with you that I don't think this country will vote based on a candidate's gender.

Probably, and I would be happy to vote for a qualified female that takes the right stand on the issues.

I have absolutely no preference for what giblets with which one is born; give me a solid, truthful, brave Conservative president--that's all I ask for! Maggiepie "Writing is a way of talking without being interrupted." ~ Jules Renard, author (1864-1910)

There are probably some people who are still reluctant to vote of a female for president, but I think most people don't care what the gender is as long as the candidate represents their values.

It depends on the candidate. Palin is infinitely more knowledgeable and capable than usurper Obama. But, Americans do not appreciate conservative women; they'd rather have flaming liberals like Pelosi and Boxer,( as well as Hillary Clinton); how tragic. Both are guilty of treason in installing a usurper, Boxer in supporting Code Pink, who aid and abet our enemies. I would only vote for a proven seriously conservative woman who did not sell her soul for money and power as did the three above. Personally, a fire hydrant would make a better president than usurper Obama, but it wouldn't pass the threshhold test. Oops, neither does O.

Why shouldn't the US be ready for a female president? I think a female could do a great job at running the country. it would probably be an improvement over what we have had in the past.

If it's the right female for the job. Maybe someone as wise as Margaret Thatcher. http://www.boycottliberalism.com/Margaret-Thatcher-Quotes.htm
