Hi MyLotters,
Have you ever met with a situation where the latest response to your discussion was better than the one that you selected or marked as the best response?
I am quite new here(as compared to the stalwarts) and never have faced such a scenario but am hoping that this would have happened to someone out there.
What would you do in such a case? I know that MyLot doesnt allow you to change the Best Response once you have marked one. So what do you do? - Sit Back and forget it as something that had to happen or do anything about it?
Your views and opinions would help me in facing such a situation and I would appreciate your valuable recommendations.
Cheers,
theSids.

Hi there thesids!
Yeah happened to me quite sometimes, so I took some precautions lately just to make sure that I selected the best one yet... the best one so far is not to select right away whenever you feel like the response that you're reading is good, because there might be a better one coming up next..you'll never know ^^
So I like to leave it just like that and see the comments add up and then only I read all of em in order to pick which one is the best. However late comments are always expected and in this case, I'd prefer to say that the early bird gets its worm :DD

Hi Hati3Kuro,
Yes, it mostly happens with people who mark the BR. I know we can never be sure when a new response would be posted to our discussion and so there can be someting like no time limit... But then we should mark out the Best Response sometime so it is mostly on the ones that have already been posted... So I get that the Early Bird Gets the Worm...
Thanks for sharing your views here.
Cheers,

If that happens, then all you can do is to rate that as positive, since you have marked one response as best response already. That's why what i am doing, i actually let two or three days passed before I read all the comments and rate them so that I am at least 95% sure that I will mark the best as the best response. Anyway, the reason for marking that as best response surely gives you satisfaction so it's okay, don't have to regret that, my friend. Have a good day!

This happens to me All the time. What I do is not give out the best response.Or if you have given it out already , just tell the person you wish you had waited. Most of the posts I write aren't suppose to have a best response. They are Strictly opinion! And Everyone has a good opinione , regardles if I agree with them or not. But there are times when I start to read and i find that I Know this is the best respons I will get! But I Always , Always wait a day or two to makr sure. Then I give it out . But even when you wait , there can bne another response that is better! Just try your best.

Hi sids !
I am quite lazy in marking best response....so when i mark them (i am writing THEM as whenever i remember that i have not marked them from so many days ..then i start a mission to mark them together ) its late enough for any new response to come for that discussion...so i can choose without any hesitation or confusion...i get so less time for mylot that when i come here ....i start responding directly...or if i have something in mind then i write one or two discussions...being a house-wife i have so so many responsibilities...i feel sometimes that there were more hours in a day to be here for enough time...
rarely it happens that 2 responses are so nice that i feel like marking best to both of them ...but then that is not allowed u know
have a nice day !!

Hi Eshaan,
I was thinking so because I saw a lot of discussions that did not select the best response and so I thought that the good people who marked the Best Response had vanished. But now I stand corrected... they have not vanished but they are waiting for the deadlines to reach so that they can be sure of the best response.

Hi Eshaan,
Lazy You ? I dont think so...there are many now I am sure who wait for the last response to come across and then select their BRs. Earlier I was thinking that all the good people have vanished but now I realize how wrong I was... This post has been a sort of Eyeopener for me.
Thanks for sharing your views here on this discussion.

You should wait for a couple of weeks before you choose a responder who has the best response. You will be safe in that way. I do that, and it works for me and for all my responders.

Thesids, that has happened a few to many times for me. But after a while, I figured that articles within a certain period, should be the ones rated against. With a time constraint you don't have to worry about later posts being better than previous ones. All members will find it valuable to see you've selected them for best response, but the one's who count for this should be selected from a specific time period. Don't worry to much about what you've done, and try not to be too exact as this will make you worry a lot about this situation.

Oh I hate that. It rarely happens to me because I wait so long before I leave a best response for my discussions that I have started. I just forget to leave one. By the time I remember my discussion is old and people hardly ever comment on my old discussions which to me shows that not many people are searching for discussions they must just look through whats new. I love thinking of a topic and searching for discussions on that to comment on. That lets me read discussions that were created 4 years ago even. I do wish sometimes though that I could change who I have left a best response for. Once in awhile someone leaves an amazing comment after I've already picked a best response.

et too Shaggin! A Month! I am getting into the groove now and consider it the right time for me to wait too.
Actually I feel bad when I see people not selecting the Best Answers and now I know the reason. I think you people have a valid point. I would try to accommodate and change.
So what do you do for cases as you mention "Once in awhile someone leaves an amazing comment after I've already picked a best response." even after a wait of 1 month? That would be more interesting!

Hi tehsids,
I never felt any regret after selecting a BR. I am giving enough time before picking the best response and usually I am spending much time to decide a BR. The reason is I am getting many quality responses and it gives some confusion and I have to sit back then think again and again… If I am impressed with somebody’s responses on the first time I may select that without spending much time. However, selecting a BR is a tough task for me and once I decide it there won’t be any chance to regret.

Hi Sreekala,
I can understand the situation that a MyLotter faces when there are too many responses and then there is a whole bunch of those that are really good. I just go crazy many a times reading so many responses but then I love to get the different opinions and views.
Cheers,

Hi friend...
We are informed not to mark best response within a week. This thought knocked on my mind and i started a discussion on this issue. here is a link for your kind information.

Again i have also done the same mistake once here but from that time i am conscious in this matter. Have a nice day.

Hello thesids,
I wait for a month before i start giving out the best responses. Actually it's not because i have to wait, it's because i am lazy, lol. But anyways, it works for me he he.. Okay, it is always best to wait for more than two weeks before you would want to decide for the best response for your discussion. Giving out best responses could also discourage some of the members from responding to your post, so let the responses flow in until it stops.

Hi Voldrox,
I agree on this one that selecting the best response on threads at times disappoints a few mylotters. To be honest, I am one of them and it happened on a discussion where I was sure to get the best response... but the owner marked someone else... No issues, after the disappointment was over, I took it positively and decided to do better on this persons threads...
15 days seems an acceptable time span as I am one of those impatient guys who do not want the clutter in the unresolved discussions section.(I still wait till I feel that it is high time and I should mark the best response).
Cheers,
theSids.

I have discussions, where really a lot of people answer me, the discussions are just few, but sometimes more than once or two people understand what i mean. This is how i mark two posts. I think it's not a problem. I don't know how rating a post work at all, i know it's good about the rating of the person, who answer to you, but never knew what happens when i mark another post as best, also. I'm doing it, because i can see that the people, who respond, really understand what i mean. As long as it doesn't have bad affect to the people, i marked (the second one, who is marked as best response), i hope it's o.k.
I read few responses and i think a month is too long time. Sometimes i forget, that i've put some discussions. Sometimes i just leave the site, because i don't have time to answer to the people, but i don't want people, who respond me to be injured, sooo ... i'm marking when i think that's really a good response.
Happy Mylotting friend!

Hi Sugaar,
That is an honest thing to say and I appreciate your method for selecting the BR. Even me is unsure of what impact this has on Mylot for me, but I think it is a kind of appreciation and marking out that the discussion on the thread has been resolved. An indication that no more responses might be made and also to say to yourself... Time that you moved on...
I too agree that A Month is somewhat a long time but then the chances of having received all the responses would be complete by then as the thread would have gone down in History of MyLot.

Hi AKP,
Thanks for sharing your opinion here. It gives me an idea that you are same like me... a person who believe in learning from experiences. Tough this time I am learning from the experiences of many Stalwarts. Yes, I would wait for longer times from now on...

First of all, you aren't supposed to give the best response right away, because it gives others a chance to respond, and by doing so, you can avoid what happened to you. However, sometimes, I have come across situations where there was more than one response to choose from, which made it difficult, but then I would just read all the responses again, and then I was able to pick one. I could care less whether I get a best response or not, but I am concerned about others who might want one but aren't given the opportunity to get one. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Hi dear,
What I feel, regardless of anything, if you feel a response is worth and valuable, we can give a BR rating at any point of time. As long s it is not restricted in number, it can be done as per our wish. But, as you said, once you rated and feel something better arrives afterwards, with someone else, you can rate them also. As this is the fact, why need to worry, it is all depend on how worth the matter and how it influence on you. If we feel good, rate it, the problem get resolves. Anyway, the same person would not come up with a second time response unless the topic is so debated.
Regards,
Thank-s

Well, like the others said. What's done it's done. You never know what will happen in the future right? So, I guess you don't have to be guilty or anything. You just have to be careful next time you marks the best response. :)
