Boy do you stink

The hound came in and she stinks, I can't tell why but she rolled in something. We can't put her outside, it's to cold. So bath is the only answer. So we start to get the stuff together to bath her and she starts rolling her eyes. We have never been able to give her a bath. She hates water. But these two old folks are determined to get rid of the smell. So we drag her into the bathroom. Her tail was so far between her legs she looked like a 5 legged dog. Well I had made the bath warm and we get her front end into the bathtub. "Good girl, great girl, you're getting me all wet. To Hubby can't you hang on to her?" A grunt in response. Finally we get the whole dog in the bath, she is stiff as a board, but we are on our knees, soaking wet and we carry on. Soap her all up, then rinse. We run the water over her until it runs clean, Now we reach for the towel, "Watch out she 's getting out of the bath", she shakes all over while we are still trying to get the towels around her. Finally she's dry enough to let into the rest of the house, we are both shivering in wet cloths, then she has the guts to ask for a treat. In the mean time all her bedding has gone into the laundry, so we give her a treat, make up a bed and rush into our own bath to change our cloths. How does dog bathing go at your house.

Haha, Sounds like you had some fun time there!! It used to be like this for us too but not anymore. You wont believe this but I must have the only Labrador who's not into water!! We have a pool and when he was a pup, hubby would take him in the pool with him but you could tell he wasnt too much into water. Hubby used to be in charge of the bath. Poor Miky would shake and be stiff and keep his tail between his legs. Then one day, hubby couldnt bathe him and I had to. I noticed that once in the tub, he would be slipping all over and he didnt feel secure. I had some rubber mat to be used at the bottom of the tub to prevent slipping. I got 2 of them out and made sure the whole tub was covered, then helped him into the water and right away I noticed he wasnt as stiff. I make sure I keep the nozzle of the shower against his fur (learned that from a vet, he also said to not rub against the fur). I never fill the tub. I wet him, then soap him up, then rinse. I always make sure Im always touching him so he knows that he's not alone. He usually will hide his nose against my neck as Im washing him. I make sure I have all the towels around me and some all over the floor. I close the shower curtain when Im done with us both in the tub and then I let him shake the excess water off (of course Im all wet when this is over but I make sure I turn on the heat in the bathroom before we start). I pat him as much as I can with towels and then I use a hair blower at low heat to dry him off. I make sure I have treats with me at all time, it does help A LOT!! Well it sure makes a mess of the bathroom after that. Theres dog hair all over the place. Usually he's good for a nap after a bath and then Im off to clean up the mess, shower and change clothes. Its a messy job, but I do it once a month!! Oh the things we do for our furbabies!!

I do not have dogs to bathe. I have two of my three cats that cannot get rid of fleas so I am afraid that may be in their future and mine. I have never given them a bath.

I have found that warm water helps a lot. Have everything ready so that you can be fast.

It's funny how dogs like to roll in the stinkiest stuff and for me it's usually always just after a bath when mine do it..lol...bathtime at my house is pretty mellow. All except with my tiny female. Whenn she is being dried..she wants to attack the towel. I mean really attack it..lol..she is hard to get dried off.

With our little Corgi mix, the kids are able to give her a bath because she tolerates the water so well. However, our hound is a totally different story. Michela doesn't like the water at all and I have to get Tom to do the dirty work because she is able to bully me so much. That said, Michela really doesn't get a bath on a regular basis but the kids give Jasmine a bath all the time because she makes it so easy to do.

What a story! It kept my attention till the end, I expected something unexpected to happens. But no, it was only a regular bath. Nera didn't like to have baths, neither. But she stand still in the bathtube until it was all over. Binne seems to like bathing, or she lets me think so. I don't know any other sign that she's happy or not except for the wagging tail. And she's wagging her tail while I bath her. She never puts her tail between her legs during bath time, so she must like to take a bath. What do you think? Am I wrong?

lol that sounds like fun. I got plenty of dogs here and thankfully they dont hate water since they are all used to on getting a bath twice a week since they were all puppies. They really like water specially our chow chow. Some of them even lie down and try to sleep and relax as if they were on a spa. That's why its important to give them bath while they were still a puppy since it could be a pain in the butt when they grow up =)

It goes pretty much the way it does at your house!! Cookie is light enough that I can get her into the laundry sink in the basement but I have trouble with Gus. I don't have a bathtub, just a shower, so that's how I bathe the dogs when I absolutely have to. I usually take them to the vet twice a year for baths, it's worth not having my back ache--Gus is 37 pounds, just too heavy for me to heave up into the laundry sink!

We have two chihuahuas (Toby & Daisy) at home and bathing time isn't too bad. They are both quite well behaved once you get them in the tub. It's the process of getting them there that is the problem. Daisy is not much of a problem. She's actually quite docile. It's Toby that's the terror. He has a sixth sense or something like that when it comes to bath time. It's doesn't help that he's a fast little bugger. He'd go running under the bed to hide so fast whenever my sister tries to coax him to bath. That or he'd run into his cage and burrow under all his blankets. When we try to pry him out of there he's practically clinging to his sheets as well as the door frame. It's quite funny to watch my sister struggle with him. He's also wiggle and struggle trying to get out of her hands, sometimes he'll succeed and the chase is on again.

I was picturing the two of you struggling with this dog in the tub and getting all wet! I bathe all my animals regularly including the cats and the dog is the one who makes the most mess! She is a medium size canine so her weight is not the problem and she goes into the shower where I usually wash her without a struggle. She is very good while I wash her and she keeps relatively still until I rinse her, dry her and get her out of the shower. Once she’s out she shakes violently and the room is soaked and full of hair so a bath for the dog entails scrubbing the bathroom clean! The cats are so much easier; they get ‘done’ in the laundry trough with little hassle although they don’t look too happy!

I have 3 dogs but I'm only responsible for bathing the youngest one who is little under a year. He's always been a challenge to give a bath to for many reasons. He's going through that stage where he's scared of everything and then last minute trys and be the boss. So well I try and drag him into the bathroom he weepers and fights to get away and when we're finally in the bathroom he starts to bite and grawl at the hose I use to wash him with. He then trys to bite the water as I'm spraying him and when he realizes that does nothing he trys to jump on me and have me cradle him like a baby, which is sometimes hard to not do. After I'm done it's on to the towel drying which he thinks means play time and runs around the bathroom pulling at the towel and rolling around. When I finally manage to dry him he runs out of the bathroom and straight to his box of treats and sits right in front of it and that's the end of a very eventful bath time.
