Parents, students everyone wants to have a safe and secure job in life. They want to have a job that has a security, most of them want government jobs because they say it has job security.
But in the present scenario, job security is a myth.
Yesterday I was attending a e-seminar on Financial Literacy, the speaker said this:
In today's world you can't play safe, you need to play smart.
So I have been pondering over this point since yesterday. So what do you think about this statement?

It all depends on which career one is planning to pursue, as business fields require the most smartness and skills. There is a lot of competition in firms like Goldman Sachs an Citi Group, and therefore low key jobs like tellers are becoming really hard for over qualified people to be accepted to. Government jobs in business are getting a bit competitive, but there are lots of ways around this. The top rule is government jobs should be pursued with good qualifications and resume boosters. Being unprepared in today's world, is what brings upon tough job interviews and bad remarks.

Ya very truly stated, being unprepared brings very bad remarks.
Today bank employees feel that there is nothing like job security in Government banks even. Today people everywhere are taken on contractual basis.
So no concept of job security is there.
Thanks for sharing.
Take care.

i think it should be a balance of both... playing safe and playing smart... both are important for the survival in this world nowadays... i just been laid off work recently and it is such a good and stable job already... i feel so sad because i am so dumb to let go of such a good job due to my mistake... i am in the process of looking for a new one now and i hope God will bless me with another job soon... take care and have a nice day...

Ya I agree to you, but playing it safe always stores a fear in our mind, letting us control our minds.
I think you should read this book: Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert.T.Kiyosaki, you will get what I want to convey to you.
Thanks for sharing.

I just like to play smart so if I have a job now all I have to do is to save half of my money in the bank and not just to spend a lot. If I already have accumulate enough money i would invest in business so eventually when the company need to revamp their policy r if their would be a retrenchment i shall live be afraid to be lay off since i have to other way where i could earn that have a back to rely on and not on the current job alone..

Playing smart can also mean playing and vice versa. It all goes down to one statement: you have to be wise to survive. Of course, being an employee won't give you much money so it's great to start your own business and make your savings grow. That's one example of being wise.

Ya play smart is like surviving being wise.
Still I feel there is a difference in the nature and attitude a wise man displays and a smart person displays.
Well thanks for your time and share.

Playing smart is the best way to go for all points in life. There are times where you need to choose your opportunities that are going to pay off the best in the end. They might not be safe opportunities a lot of the time, but at the same time, if they do pay off, then you will be able to really get going in life.
So yeah I really do agree with this statement. You have to use your brain to get the most out of life. Safety is something that is not really promised in any event these days. Because there is no such thing as a safe world. There are a lot of things that were once safe, but now they are not. Therefore, we need to fall back on making the smartest choices. Granted, often times there are times where the line is completely blurred between safety and being smart.
