Modernization: A Disadvantage to Enjoy Life?

it has its advantages specially when it comes to convenience but thinking about it, technological modernization in particular, has caused lesser jobs, has not promoted physical activities much, and has made man too dependent on such advancements.

It is all a matter of perspective. I find that my outlook on life is directly proportionate to the amount of sleep I have had, how well I have been eating, and how much FOX news I have been watching. We have to seize the day, let what happens happen, and get a little crazy if we are to survive all of this. I get by with a little help from my friends. =)

Personally, I feel with modernization, many people are not really enjoying life. On the surface it may appear so, but beneath the surface, one needs to work extra hard. This is because with modernization, one can have more wants instead of needs and so we become slaves to our own wants. Are we enjoying life in essence?

In my adult live I have owned three homes at different times. The first I bought when I was 19 years old and it was a tiny cottage built in 1835. It was part of what used to be a Victorian Workhouse. Well since that time in history things have been modernized gradually over the years. In the time it was a workhouse poor people live there and now it has wealthy people living there. I sold that cottage when I was 33 years old. Then I bought a modern house built in 1991 and it had space for more technology in the kitchen. I was able to have a cooker, full sized fridge, washing machine and dryer. I felt that the houses in that street had gone up way too quickly. The builders in todays world work too quickly and want to make lots of money. There was a small piece of land and 14 apartments were built there and it should have been two or three houses. Now I live in a bungalow built in 1970. It has a serving hatch between the kitchen and the lounge. It has chimneys and now we had electrical and gas heating. I didn't use a computer until age 16 and then I avoided them until I was 28 years old. We got a video recored when I was 14 years old. Now we have laptops and mobile phones. My laptop helps me to enjoy life.

Modernization is already here whether we like it or not so i guess we can't do anything about it. I'm just trying to enjoy it while it's here. I know it adds pollution of all kinds and i'm not leaning for that but while technology adds pleasure to our lives, i'm here to take advantage.

I feel that technology has changed our life for good things but at the same time we should use the technology considering the climate and environment. Our life has become much more easy than earlier because of new technologies but there are disadvantages as well. We need to manage which is affecting nature and environment, so avoid unmanagable things with regards to technology and environment. I am enjoying technology available and affordable to me. We can always enjoy technologies but do not forget that nature is much more powerful than anything else, no one can stop thunder or rain.

first of all, i would like to welcome you to mylot community... i believe that there are always pros and cons to everything... the same thing applied to modernization as well... while modernization make our lifestyle generally much better compared to in the past, it also brings some negative philosophies and values to us... this is what i think... take care and have a nice day...

yes, i think quality time has gone down somewhat because many people are in a rush so much more now.

There are both positives and negatives in the modern day living. There are increased comforts of life, better healthcare, vaccines etc. However, increased traffic, noise and vehicular pollution and overall change in people's moralities does present a downside to this living.

I do enjoy the modern things I have now most especially the internet and my computer but I am also saddened by those mounting garbage and other harmful chemicals that is polluting our earth atmosphere. I wish there is something we can do about it. If those scientist and other great inventors can invent awesome useful things we enjoy today they must also find ways how to clean all the mess and all people should contribute as well. Because it would not be right to just produce something that even though is useful but in the long run it will eventually create more problems. The product does not justify it's purpose at all.

I must agree on the points that you have raised patlim. Modernizations has created some benefits which have made the life of man easier. Remember those times when man use to spend countless hours just to create something. And now, what you need is a press of a button and it is done. What I would like to point out here is that because of technology we were able to do things efficiently thus allowing ourselves to spend sometime on the matters that we enjoy. Imagine if you still wash your clothes manually and not through washing machine. You have spend the whole time doing it and not being able to do some other things at the same time. The use of washing machine now allows you to do some other chores and yet cleaning up your laundry at the same time. This is just one simple example but speaks a lot for the way things have changed already. On the note that technology has created problems, I think it was man's fault not to implement religiously what has been designed to ensure that a certain technology does not create possible risk to man. Those measures were studied during Research and Development of the technology. It is just that we were not cautious of its implementation. I hope I have imparted some sensible thoughts. Yes, kinda agree with you on this. It does have some disadvantages but it does help people alot in making life alot easier. Like my ipod for an instance. This is like a life saver to me. With it I learn so many things. I guess it depends upon the peoples point of views and the way they have to at least control their ways of making most of the modernization. Parents do have to educate their kids more about this and we as responsible individuals should put modernization to its useful cause and not to the point of making its disadvantages overun its reason of existence.

The same can be said for anything new that is introduced to society. The introduction of the machine age has it's assets and drawbacks. We get places faster for instance with cars and airplanes. But the burning of fossil fuel is horrible for the environment. Have fun discussing!
