As regular gamer and a person who makes money online, making money playing games was not something I could pass up. Nor do I think I'll quit doing so anytime soon.
When I talk to friends and family they are often surprised I can make money doing it, but I'm even more surprised when they have no interest in playing games for money. Even when the gaming is free or I offer to let them play on my dollar. They usually say it would take the fun out of it or that they afraid the fact of having money as a prize makes the game to take on a whole new meaning that's "unhealthy" to quote a close friend.
I find winning money/prizes makes the games even more fun, but what do you think?
Still fun?

I'm not really a gamer but I think for those who are, having to earn money while doing something you like/love is great! I would grab at an opportunity like that. Maybe your friends don't like gaming as much as you do that's why they see that earning money for playing games takes the fun of it. Because I'm thinking, when you really do love something. The others (eg. money) are just perks or extras. Ultimately, playing games is still the reason why you're doing what you're doing. And getting paid for it is just an extra.

True it is something I enjoy even without the money added. But I admit I've looked at gaming from a different aspect since I made my first $100 of it several years ago with a MMORPG.
I still enjoy games with out money involved and do so on a regular basis as well. But the perks in the paypal make it that much sweeter.

MMORPG=massive multi-player online role playing game. World of Warcraft being one of the most well known.

Okay, I have to ask; what the heck is MMORPG? I'm guessing it's some kind of role playing game?

Yeah I think winning prizes and money make it more fun too. The thing for me is whether or not I'd get a good return on my time investment. How does that play out for the games you play for money?

Time investment vs money earned is always a dilemma. Personally I find it worth my time.
Some gaming forms vs amount earned are not for everyone. It really does vary a lot. What's the best for you depends on your skill, time, and what kind of games you find fun. From games that require no skill and would barely pass as a game from 1990 that give you just pennies to MMORPGS that can challenge any PC's graphics card, requires tons of skill, and time investment that can earn you thousands. In-between there is simple Arcade style games with a few dollars to be had. Along with sweepstakes and contests where you get a few bucks or win the hot new game that month.

I don't think the fun is taken out of gaming when you do it for money. I'm not a professional reviewer, but I review my new games when I buy them and I don't mind doing that because it means I'll benefit from the game besides just having fun with it.

Solid way to go about making money with games. Having extra benefits like that is just one more reason I enjoy today's gaming culture.

I have my PS2, PSP and Wii, along with my computer, I just review games I already own and then I buy new ones if I really want a new game.

My favorite part of the day during school was when I played games. I definitely do wish that all those times where I played games would be compensated. Well, at least I can continue that hobby, and make decent money from it. Its the meaning of life p could make one money. The value of living well is determined by earning good money, and who would have though playing games could do that. Wish I make an years salary one day, but until that happens I'll have to work my butt off.

That is... quite an interesting attitude they have. I am usually not that big no the kinds of games you find on those sites (and I don't think such sites welcome users from my country) but if doing something you like nets you cash that is just the best of two worlds. It would be interesting if you questioned them on exactly why gaming with cash prizes is wrong, and posted the answers somewhere (if you can do it legally of course).
I can understand the hate on gambling when it becomes pathologic, which among other things means you are actually losing more money than you can afford to, but otherwise it's just more time for cash - time that happens to be fun.
Otherwise, maybe if someone is pathologically greedy, or absolutely dependent on games for their livelihood (e-sports come to mind, there are people who actually make their entire living on Starcraft and/or its sequel for example, and it's not a bad living either) it can perhaps become stressful and unenjoyable. But even then, only when it's going badly, and the rush is that much greater when it goes well.
But for now I utterly reject the notion that making money through any fun activity including games is wrong, and I very much doubt that anyone can make a convincing argument to the contrary.

It surprised me as well. I understood they meant games are intended for fun, and when you add money it becomes something else. Even if that does still mean you are having fun, it's wrong because it defeats the purpose of games.
While I don't agree with the thoughts, I can understand the issue they have.
I too hate when gambling becomes uncontrolled by some people, and because of it's nature it's prone to bigger effects in life.
Could see it being a lot less fun when it's your primary source of income. But if your passion stays strong I could see it also being fun as winning the lottery.

It probably has to do with a rather popular (and silly) idea that Serious Business and Fun and Games are antagonistic and should never be mixed. Most people don't like what they do for a living, since most jobs tend to be monotonous, menial and degrading, with incompetent supervisors and managers making it worse, and in the past it was even worse.
People also have a tendency to think that it's wrong for others to be happier than they are.
So if X works as a law firm's secretary and hates it, and Y is a pro gamer who loves what he does, and they make the same money, Y will be a lot happier than X and X might envy him enough to become convinced that Y's lifestyle is unhealthy and/or morally wrong. I have deliberately picked the example of a law firm employee, as I feel that law firms are mostly parasitic.
No offense intended to fellow myLot users, but if you take exception to my comments or not is entirely your choice (I can say 1+1=2 and some people might find that offensive).
