Late last night a freind on mine, house burnt down. She was staying with another family after she left her husband. Her and her 2 chikdren packed up and left. They moved in with other friends until next week when she has her own place lined up.
So last night the house caught on fire becuase of electrical issues. Her and her 2 children, as well as a the couple she was staying with and thier 3 children have lost everythign. We are all soo thankful that they all escaped alive and unharmed!
I have noticed that when tragedy strikes, it can bring out the best in people. The community is comming together with donations of whatever people can bring. Clothes, shoes, food, money, a place to stay.
My own son melted my heart when he started going through all of his clothes and wanted to give so many to them, I had to remind him he has to keep enough for himself to wear. Then he started going through his toy box, giving toys that he thought the kids might like. He said if it was me I would want some toys.
They have a long way to go, nothing was salvagable. They were renting so they had no insurance. I am heartbroken for them, but so thankful everyone is ok, and happy with the people in my community who are so kind and generous.
Do you think people show their best side when faced with tragedy like this? Has anything like this ever happened to you? Any suggestions of things that might be helpful to them that people may not think to get them?

i agree with you on this 100%... i had seen this many times on the newspaper, television, internet, etc... even in the country where i am living... the biggest disaster that had happened here is the bush fires that claimed so many houses and lives... the whole country come to help out to ease the pain and sufferings of the victims... also, when the current natural disasters back in my home country which is the volcanic eruptions and tsunamis... countries from all over the world also come out to help... i am so very touched... take care and have a nice day...

Yes, it is awsome how when someonething horrible happens in a different country and it's a large scale disaster, the rest of the world seems to help out. It helps restore faith in hummanity to see all the people willing to help out those in need. You even get people helping out that dont really have much to give, and it makes a huge difference is how you view the world. It is nice to see the good in people on the news instead of all the bad things people have done.

I agree with the other posters that people do help when others have lost everything. Its sad to see this happen, as many of us are having a hard time now. I gave canned foods to somebody that lost their home and so many others gave items also in my community.

Its so great when communitys can pull together to help those in need. It is hard with the way the economy is going, but I think people figure so matter how bad they are, these people are worse. If everyone just gives 1 thing, even something little it all adds up and means alot to these people.

SO sorry this happened to your friend. Bad things do seem to bring out the good. I guess that is part of human nature. We have had storm damage to our home, but nothing as serious as this. They may try looking for assistance through a church or youth organization.

Definitely, tragedies bring out the good in people. We see it in different situations no matter how big or small. Whenever thunderstorms and typhoons strike, people help each other for safety. We unite as one.

That is so true, I guess tragety and loss is a universal language and everyone knows what it feels like.

My house burnt down a few years ago and thankfully it was during the day when everyone was at school. While the house was still in flames people arrived on scene and dropped off gift cards for clothing stores, toys for the kids, meals for us. The warmth and kindness was amazing beyond words. Its sad that it takes sadness to bring the best out but its a good time to show it.

I am so sorry for the loss, but thankfully you are all ok. It is very amazing and I am so glad that people can at least treat each other this way when they need to the most. It would be nice for it to show more often, but take what we can get!
