My Young Adult Sunday School class is doing a study on the Chronicles of Narnia! I'm super excited! I actually wore a Renaissance dress to church and took a stuffed lion with me. I'm just a little bit of a fantasy freak and I love Christian fantasy novels! Ever done a study on the Christian messages in Narnia?

Hi allyoftherain! That's really great to be studying the Narnia books. I too am a fan of The Chronicles of Narnia. I haven't done any studies about it yet but after reading all the books, I tend to analyze them after reading one novel after the other. I wish there were more Christian novels similar to CS Lewis' Narnia books to read. Or have I just missed out on some? LOL

There are more! I said I was a huge fan of Christian fantasy... and that's because it actually IS a genre! It's pretty small, but it's quickly growing! Some of my favorites are The Archives of Anthropos series by John White, The Legend of the Guardian-King series by Karen Hancock, The Circle Trilogy by Ted Dekker, The Dragon Keeper Chronicles by Donita K. Paul, The Door Within Trilogy by Wayne Thomas Batson, Dragons in our Midst and Oracles of Fire by Byran Davis, The Auralia Thread series by Jeffery Overstreet, Heartless by Anne Elizabeth Stengl, and the Pendragon Cycle by Stephen Lawhead. I'm still discovering more too! I've been thinking about starting my own Christian fantasy book club and website because I want other people to talk about these great novels and all of their beautiful Christian themes!

Glad I could share. It would be great if you remembered the series you thought was like C.S. Lewis because I'm always on the lookout for more. Hope you find a new book that you love!

Oh wow! I never knew that! I think, if I remember it correctly, I came across this new series of fiction/fantasy novel that is kinda like C.S. Lewis. I just forgot the title. I would love to read more Christian fantasy or fiction novels. I probably just need to look out on these titles. :) Thanks for the info ally! :) I shall check some of those titles that you've shared with me.

No, but that sounds cool. Though I am reading the series to my 8 y/o and I do mention when I find something that is related to Jesus in the story..:)

Magician's Nephew is one of my favorites! Well... I love them all but I would say my three main favorites are Magician's Nephew, Horse and His Boy, and The Last Battle. All great books! I'm glad he's enjoying them!

Oh I will! You really should read the books! The movies are great, but I always think that the books are better than the movies. With the books you can really imagine everything instead of letting someone hand all the images to you! Right now we've only done part of Magician's Nephew and we talked about creation and transformation! It was incredible and I can't wait for next week!

I've read the books before and I was the one who pushed for the Narnia study in Sunday School. I'm a huge Narnia fan and I wanted to talk about it with all my classmates. (And I wanted an excuse to wear my renaissance dress to church!)

To me wearing the dress or to studying Narnia? We're all really excited about studying Narnia and we've only had one Sunday discussion so far but it was a really good one and I'm looking forward to the next one. Wearing the dress to church was actually a really big hit. I had heaps of fun and I got to tell everyone else at church about our class, plus I got lots of compliments. Next week more of my classmates are dressing up and there will be a lion plushy, a horse plushy (Horse and His Boy!), and a unicorn plushy with us. Yeah... we're having loads of fun with this.

That sounds like it will be interesting. I have never done that before. I hope you enjoy it! I wonder what some of the topics will be. You'll have to let us know.

So far we've discussed direct Biblical parallels... like how Magician's Nephew is about Creation and the Fall. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe addresses Christ's sacrifice, Redemption, salvation, and the resurrection. The Horse and His Boy bears strong similarities to the story of Ester. Prince Caspian is like the story of Josiah. The Last Battle is the end times and judgement... etc. Right now we're focusing on Magician's Nephew and it's Creation themes, plus the idea of transformation in Christians as portrayed in the transformation of the animals and of the poor cabby to the king!

Believe it or not I live in Narnia. Well, to be completely truthful, the name of the town where I live is actually Narni, but in Roman times it's name was Narnia, but then the name altered during the course of the middle ages to just Narni. When the first and second movies about Narnia came out, there was a big to do here. Local scholars here have been trying to prove some sort of a connection between the town of Narni/Narnia and the C.S. Lewis books, but it looks as though any similarity is purely accidental and the author had neither visited nor heard of the town. But there is still a lot of local pride in the Narnia books and they are often chosen as a subject of study in the local schools and are often on display in the citie's bookshops

That's awesome! I would love to be able to claim that I live in Narnia. I'm in Narnia in my head all the time anyway.
