i am a daily commuter and most of the time i ride on buses and jeepneys. jeepneys are said to be only in the philippines. Jeepneys are the most popular means of public transportation in the Philippines. Although several types of jeepneys have been produced, the jeepneys have only begun evolving recently, in response to environmental and economical concerns.these vehicles will send passengers right at their doorsteps so that's why most of the time people love to have jeepneys. in my case, i have my daily long travel to work so i'd prefer bus rides. how about you?

train service is only available in the metro and we don't have them in rural areas. the most number of people are in rural areas.in fact the large population are rural inhabitants and the government didn't see that.

Well we have the bus which is one of the most common transport!
But the youth of today prefer to have bikes. They think it's really cool way to attract girls and it makes them look nice when they are riding that. I am not sure what the thrill in that is all about. Bikes have evolved a lot here. Latest models of bikes are coming over as we speak. There's also some stiff competition for the bikes out here.
I prefer shared auto rides to my college. That's kinda far away and i can't stand for such a long time in the bus so i prefer to go to college in an auto. When i return my friends sometimes drops me or i would have to take another auto back home!
Cheers!

that's nice. there are some schools too in our country that lets students rent bikes for the day. in that case, they can save too from high fares and acan go anywhere they want to without any delays. most of the time, busses need to filled up before they proceed to some destinations. biking is also an eco friendly activity.

The Car!
Our city does have a pretty extensive bus system. At almost any time during the day you see these huge busses burning fuel.. almost always empty.

our government is limiting private cars on the road so as to avoid traffic and so much pollution caused by the fumes emitted by these cars. i think there are lots of city ordinance tooon other countries about limiting the number of cars. using own car is really the most convenient in terms of transport. my gratitude to you for responding here.

In my city buses are very frequently used for a better and safe journey. Some peoples are also using personal bike and cars to travel a short distance, but in most of cases they also use buses to avoid rush in the road.
There are two types of buses available in my city 1) General buses for general peoples and 2) A/C Volvo for rich people. Both are managed by municipality corporation management. As buses are very frequently (2-5 minutes interval)and well managed, there is no problem for journey.
Apart from this private buses are also available, but are not comfortable for journey as they do not bother for time rather they want money and wait for more passengers.
Also private auto and taxis are running on hire, but are so expensive. There is a campaign in my city "Use city bus and avoid road accident".

If Thailand and Indonesia's 'tuktuk' and trishaw are their popular means of transportation, we have 'padyak' or 'trisikad' and 'tricycle' here in the Philippines which are common transportation method to low & medium income earners. If you are living in the inner part of the town or city, you cannot reach your work without riding in these kinds of transportation, unless you prefer to use your two legs and walk.

In my local town people tend to drive their cars. This is because it is convenient to them. Public transport is a more expensive way of getting around. There are train stations called Worle, Milton and Weston-super-Mare. Buses are available but the routes are limited. The bus tickets cost a lot. I have a Friends and Family Rail Card so this gives me cheaper train fares. I have my own car that I like to drive around in. Before I passed my practical driving test this February 2010 I traveled a lot on public transport.

I work in one of the small cities in the southern part of an island in the central Philippines. And the most popular means of transport here getting you from here to there inside the city is the pedicab. That is a bicycle with an attached sidecar which can accommodate up to three passengers. it's not allowed to ply the highway though. Then there's the motorcab in going to the different barangays or communities. Then I take the bus in going home during weekends to my city 101 kilometers away. The transport there is the motorcab. Jeepneys are for going to the next towns.
But I prefer to walk around since I work and live in a small city. No heavy traffic and no terrible pollution.

The most popular form of transport in my city right now is the bus. I take it everyday. I can choose to drive a car, but I do not like to get trapped during hours in a traffic jam, So I prefer to relax in the bus, listen to some music or even sleep.

I am a daily commuter myself. I travel from Rizal to Makati vice versa during weekdays. I endure the 2 to 3 hours ride. I do 6 alternate rides in total and that can even increase depending on my route. And I ride different kinds in a day, starting from the tricycles, FX/Vans, MRT trains and jeepneys. I seldom ride on buses due to heavy traffic. So there you go Kabayan! =)

Hello flagella.
Living in an European capital, Bucharest, very popular are buses, trams, subways and cars. Thinking of popular means of transportation my mind wanders to tram number 41, also called the "light tram" because it is very often, comes on time, and goes faster then the other buses, trams. It also starts running from 4:30 in the morning opposite to all the other surface transportation that begin shifts at 5:00 a.m.

I live in Mumbai. This city has one of the biggest public transport systems known as Mumbai Suburban Railway. Two zonal railways, viz., Western and Central Railway are managing the system. The trains are carrying 6.9 million commuters daily, which comprises more than half of the total daily passenger capacity of the Indian Railways itself. Both the system combined has the highest passenger densities of any urban railway system in the world. The trains plying on the routes are colloquially referred to as local trains or simply as local by the general populace.

I mostly use the subway to go to work and the bus to go downtown. But I think that even more than the subway, the streetcar is rather popular here..
In all the places that I've lived though (big metropolitan cities), subway has always been my pick, but I used to ride the trolleybus every day in another city I used to live. I've never used a jeepney, actually I can't remember if I've ever seen one.

Hi!
I also live in the Philippines and like you said, jeepney is the most common mode of transportation here in our country... even being called "the king of the road"...
But another transport vehicle we always use is the tricycle. I think it also lines up with the jeep...
And for a little longer distance travel, we got the buses... So this three, jeepney, tricycle, and bus, make up most of the transportation here in Philippines.
:D

No doubt, it's jeepney. taxis however have started to have a share in the road, which is a great advantage if you are always on the go.
