Do you support the law against using cell phone while driving?

I know I can't drive while talking on my cell phone, so I generally don't do it. I'm on the road an awful lot and I've had narrow-misses with MANY a driver who couldn't be bothered to pay attention to where they are going because they were too busy talking on the telephone. Have we really become a culture that can't go FIVE MINUTES without some sort of social stimulation? Text messages, cell phones, laptops, PDAs, instant messengers... REALLY? A long time ago we had to send our communications across country on HORSEBACK, for crying out loud, and nobody shriveled up and died waiting for WEEKS for a piece of mail. These days, we can't wait 10 or 15 freaking minutes to make a phone call or send a text message and we're willing to put ourselves and everyone around us in danger because we're THAT impatient? Give me a break.

it comes with a hefty fine here in ontario (canadia) if you are caught doing it which i think is a great idea. its sort of a pain when i am talking to my hubby and he is on the speaker because you can hear all the noise around him but its necessary to save lives this way.

Instead of buying those jawbones or other ear bud pieces (which are complete junk) in my opinion. Get a Blue Parrott. It may be kinda big and clunky but it doesn't throw the feedback that you get from other Bluetooth devices. They are made for truck drivers. You have no feedback what so ever. You can have your window down the music blaring and the person on the other end will be none the wiser. They run at $150.00 but they are so worth it.

Definitely! There is a reason there is a law like that, it has been proven time and time again how dangerous it can be. And I agree, people are way too addicted to their phones, to the internet and tons of other stuff that should really not be that important to us, these days. I really try to not get so hooked on these things, it is a concious decision I've made.

That so sad when people die from making that mistake of texting and driving. I've done it plenty of times but I do not do it any longer. I luckily never got into an accident while doing it. A friend of mine just totaled his car while texting and driving. I would have been so furious with myself if that had happened and embarrassed to admit to people why I wrecked my car. At least he was not hurt so thats good and as far as I know he didnt hurt anyone else.

your right thank god he didn't get hurt it just amazes me that people can not put there cells down for a minute when I was a cashier I also would have people come up to my counter with people behind them an hold up a finger to me to wait till they are done with thier call I always make them mad by looking over there shoulder to the next person in line an say can I help you

Nope. I do not support any laws that are made 'for the good of people' without taking into account that people should be free to remove themselves from the gene pool out of stupidity if they so wish. If you cannot drive while talking on your cell phone, by all means, don't. There are little things called bluetooth and speaker and headsets, and lots of the new cars include a feature where you can voicedial, answer, reject, etc thru the speakers of the car just by talking. You don't have to touch anything, hold anything, etc. You probably are right, this HAS become a society of people who can't wait for anything, it's the insta-connected generation. However, I don't see it getting any less so, and anybody who thinks so is just lagging behind the times. I am sure my opinion may not be popular with all the gloom and doom people who believe if anything CAN go wrong, it WILL go wrong, but just remember, this is my OPINION and as such it is not wrong, so don't go about trying to claim I am. Have a nice day!

Hi, Basically, I don't agree to talking on cellphone while driving because our concentration won't be fully on the traffic ,but it will go partly to the conversation that going on the cellphone. Therefore,it is best to park the car at the side road(the safe place),then carry on with the conversation. Only when you have finished with the conversation, then go ahead to continue your driving. Or else for emergency case, you have to use headset to talk on cellphone while driving.

Yes yes yes yes!!! I completely support this law! I can't stand seeing people driving while on the phone, how can you concentrate on the road if your talking on your phone! I can't believe that people are so stupid to do it! If Im that desperate to call someone then I find somewhere to pull over, but usually I just wait untill I have finished my journey!

Yes I pull over also or just ignore the phone till I get home whats so important that it can't wait a second
25 Nov 10
Exactly, I dont understand why people cant wait to answer their phone, the worst is when I see people talking on their phones and they have children in the car, if you want to put your life at risk then fine, but dont risk your childrens lives as-well.

I support this law.:) This is also for all of us and against accidents while driving. I think I find using the cell while driving a very dangerous thing as we cannot multitask that well. We need our full attention and focus while driving. I fully support this drive.

I agree we need our full focus on what we are doing there are enough dangers with driving we don't need to add talking on the phone an not paying attention

I do agree that people should not talk on their cell phones while they are driving. I have actually seen people out on the road with a cell phone in their hand trying to steer their car with their elbows while they try to write something down and drive at the same time! These types of people cause accidents. My boyfriend does it all the time and it drives me nuts!

I am with you! what is with people thinking they are more important then anyone else. that what they need to say or talk about it more important then the life of the person next to them. what a shame. I am in full of support that people don't use their cell phones while driving ever!

Hi there Enola I, of course, agree with banning talking on the phone while driving - while bluetooth seams more o.k. i rarely see drivers using it. Not once have i almost been run by a speeding driver, while i was on a pedestrian crossing, and the driver was... well speeding and far down in his most important phone calls - i am only sorry that the police doesn't take action against them... the law exists but the drivers are rarely punished.

Yes I do and I also hope the government can enforce it. In my country, even though the law states that no talking on the phone while driving, people still do that and accidents occur because of irresponsible stupid people like them. And when accidents occur, these parasites blame it on others for not driving properly.

LOL I fully support this, seems people these days are always busy for nothing, they could stop for some time during the drive and finish talking or sending text massages, here you can see banners on road telling, THE MINUTE YOU SAVE BY SPEEDING MAY BE YOUR LAST' But who cares lol.. Thank you so much for this timely discussion. Professor. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead. God bless you. Welcome always.

i surely recommend to use with wired or Bluetooth headphones but that to can disturb the concentration in driving so stop the vehicle and use the phone is the good way to avoid accidents...! in my country the famous quote written in rears of almost all the vehicles and the quote is "the one who is calling u in the phone may be the man in the hell"

"the one who is calling u in the phone may be the man in the hell" soi true i like that
24 Nov 10
a big yes and a high five for that. there are lots of drivers now who cant just get enough of using their phones that even while they are driving they are holding their cellular phones in one of their hands.. we have witnessed a lot of accidents that have killed a lot of lives due to inattention to the road because drivers are busy fiddling with their cellphones. so if there's one lawmaker who would make a bill for cellphone using while driving, i am willing to rally down the streets to support it.

Every state should have a law against using the cell phone while driving which would include texting as well as talking. In New York state is against the law to use a cell phone and drive but where I live in Pennsylvania it is not. Once in awhile I will get a call when I am driving and I get off the phone as soon as I can because it is hard for me to drive and talk on the phone. As far as texting goes I just pull over or wait until I get where I am going before texting.

Yes, people are becoming impatient nowadays because everything comes instantly. But alot of us are becoming unaware of the disadvantages of modern electronics. I am 100% in supporting the law against using cellphone while driving. I believe it's for our own safety and security. I hope people will continue to support it and abide by it.

I totally support it. It's for the benefit of all. And yes, I also hate drivers who use the phone while driving- some even use it in gasoline stations (which is forbidden). Can't they let go of their phones for just a few minutes, I'm not attached to my phone that much...Harsher punishment should be implemented to people who disobey the new law.

If a similar law will be passed here in the Phils., i would readily be supporting it. There are a lot of drivers here who texts while driving ! can you imagine that! I couldn't help but politely tell the driver this phrase " please don't text while driving because we might get an accident " . Good thing , they put their phone away. I really get nervous when i see the driver of the public utility jeepney we are riding is reading his messages! sometimes, i would just close my eyes and pray! So i would like a similar law to be passed here also.
