Some people actually told me that for you to be good leader, you must be a good listener and be able to choose your own decision which will make the best of the team But in fact, when you listen to your team member whats their opinion and whats they think is good to do to be able to achieve the goal, you eventually will get influence. There is 2ways of taking this into consideration, follow what they say is right? (meaning you get influence, you abandon your idea to theirs thinking that theirs is better and you get a point to be a good listener) or listen what they say and take into consideration what you think is right? (which may let you lose one mark for not being a good listener) What do you guys all think? which point will be the best way to be a good leader.

Yes, you are right...being a good leader doesn't only mean to lead and be the "boss"..You should be ready to listen to your people and have good decision-making skills too. Like Jesus said, in order to be a leader, you need to serve others first..

I'm not really sure either.. maybe you are doing the right thing if you are not hurting anyone when making that decision..But one could always ask for advice from other people to know what they think is the right decision

yea.. but if not choice could be make to hurt other people's feeling, its a bad thing for a good leader because it might risk that the member wont listen to me anymore.

a good leader should posses a right attitude to make his/her people follow him. You should have be positive in all ways. He should take responsibilities and hard work to be credible to whatever situations..

Well.. i do agree with the responsibility but not with the total responsibility, a good leader cannot control everybody and force people to work, but can only motivate them.

To be a good leader you should learn how to balance your opinion and others' opinions. taking into account the advantages and disadvantages of what their saying or being able to collaborate your opinion and your member's.

well.. learning to balance others' opinion is a good account to consider. But in fact its very hard to collaborate my opinion to others due of their differences directing to different target. Failure and success.

A good leader is the one who has always been a good follower. It is also a factor if you are a good listener and you heed the advice of others, whether they're superior or inferior to you. You weigh your options when you are making decisions, listen closely for everyone's advice and ask yourself if the decision that you will make will affect and how it will affect everyone. I remember a quote that goes something like this, "How to tell if a person will make a good leader or not? Simply observe him and look at how he has been as a follower."

I think it is better to know what is the main opinion of a team. It is important to ask ideas from everyone. What do they think? And after the leader has to decide, taking into consideration these opinions. But it is not necessary that the idea of the leader is the same of his team.

I never thought I'd be a leader myself and I'm still learning and have a long ways to go before I can say that I'm a good leader. But just some of the things I know so far are: A good leader must have great character and charisma. A good leader is a good follower and must set as an example to his followers. A good leader should be driven to achieve excellence. A good leader must know how to make important decisions. A good leader must know how to control his emotions and how to remain calm.

I agree that being a good listener should be one of the quiteria for being a good leader. However, you still need to be able to use your resources wisely, including human resources. You should assign the best job for the best person. This will make the whole progress much more efficient as these people can fully utilise their abilities while performing their work.

Comming from a business owner you must be a good listener. But you also have to take into consideration who the ideas are comming from. when you think about it a general in a war is not going to take advice froma 1st rank private. and a foreman is not going to take advice from a 1st year laborer. It is however good to listen and aknowlege them and explain to them why the idea would not work. Great leadership is not always about barking orders but teaching the leaders of tommorrow right from wrong.

There's a lot of factors that needs to be considered when talking about good leadership. It's not just about decision making. But as to your question, I don't have a definite answer, why? Because, at times you need to decide on your own, or pursue what you think is for the general welfare, and sometimes, you may be wrong, and you need to listen to your constituents. It's not about being fixed into "Always get influenced" or "Always decide on your own" because actually, decision making should require a lot of SWOT analysis... specially when it's crucial decisions for the organization, or company. :D God bless you! HAve a happy life! :D

Reminds me of something. Seemingly, it's hard to define it as a whole because the attributes one should possess depend on what area it could probably be. But I'd rather stick onto the statement's, he does not only tell people the how's and what's because he himself should know those as well. Why? Because we should lead by example. =)

Warning - you're opening a Pandora's box here. A good leader is hard to define simply becuase his underlings have different perceptions, opinions and expectations of that said leader. What you listed in your post is the ideal characteristics of a leader - however, not all these can be found in a single person. God also help the person who do embody those said traits because the said person will mostly likely be pressured into being a puppet rather than a person who had a will and a brain of his own. I'm not saying that you had wrong and invalid points but all you discussed are in the manner of interpretation. Personally, a good leader is a good listener - to his conscience, gut and to his people. True leaders don't always make popular choices based on the opinions of the majority (just because the majority wants it, doesn't make it realistic or feasible in any given situation). Listening is important but also filtering the information you are listening is also important.
