we are already planning the christmas holiday and this year my parents will be coming to us for dinner and then boxing day we shall visit my husbands family all day. is it easy or hard to decide who to have at your home for christmas dinner when it comes to sets of parents or do you all go out together for a special christmas meal?

Christmas Eve supper we go to my in-laws....have for years.
We used to go to my parents Christmas Ev and day for a visit, but my father has continually acted his pig-headed ways, so my husband will not go there now, which is fine with me....dad is ticking people off one at a time. I try to visit mom Christmas Eve day or even Boxing day.
Nothing wonderful happens here at Christmas.
I would like to, just once stay at home with my boys 14 and 20 on Christmas Eve....but you know how people are with traditions....WTH we dare not break one or try to start our own.

If it was a dinner I was planning at my house, I'd invite both sides. There's no reason everyone can't mingle... granted, my side is pretty much just my mother. But, for both our sides, it's the oldest generations responsibility to hold the gatherings. We all pitch in for food to make it easier, however. My Grandmother has always been the hub on my side. And on his side, the responsibility seems to rotate between his mother and aunts... his Grandmother is of ill health and has a tiny place, so she can't. I would never invite the extended families to a dinner we held, just parents and siblings. But I would invite both sides.
