Cheaper, Decent Clothes vs. Expensive Brands

When at the mall, there are tons of sales. Do you usually go to the stores that offer decent prices, and buy a ton of clothes there, or do you go to the expensive stores and buy just one or two items of clothing?
I personally like to enjoy the finer things in life :P I don't buy much when I go shopping, but I always go to the better stores, like Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, etc. The clothes are of higher quality, and make me feel good about myself and remind me that I have succeeded in some aspects of my life.
What about you?

I appreciate the quality of designer brands, and I will also admit that some of them do look much nicer than brandless things, but I think the best thing is to mix and match.
(Because who can afford only designer stuff anyway?)
So I have some expensive pieces, and some low end pieces and quite a lot of stuff in between too!
I have found that you can also buy designer stuff at consignment stores and vintage stores, as well as on Ebay to make it a bit cheaper. I have gotten quite a few really expensive things for cheaper this way, so I highly recommend it!

Puccagirl,
I agree. I don't shop at designer stores all the time, only half of the time. I do have clothes from both cheaper clothes and expensive stores. I don't mind cheaper clothes, I just want to make sure they are of decent quality. I hate buying clothes that seem nice, but then rip the next day. gahhh...
And yeah, I've bought designer stuff from cheaper stores before. It's a great way to save money and get something that is much nicer. Sadly, we don't have that many stores here, but there are enough.

I totally agree with you girls. I opened a high end consignment store in Fl last year and it is so busy that we just launched an online store. www.circavconsignment.com
You would be amazed at how many items come in still with the price tags on them or just worn once or twice. Great designer labels too. We get everything authenticated so we take the guesswork out for you as if it is real or not. Everything we carry in pristine and ready to wear. We offer free shipping with insurance and delivery confirmation.

Hi oXAquaXo!
I'm not against branded goods. I know that these are high quality products, made from the finest materials, stylish and exclusive. But I don't think I can afford them. I would just settle on something cheaper and durable enough that would last a little longer.

I buy items for nice occasions from higher quality places. I mix and match. I buy second hand and name brands. I save alot of money. I don't see any reason to pay 1st hand prices for something when I don't have to. Then I have money for more things I want to do. I like to think I have suceeded in more important places than just name brand clothes. I guess it is all priorities.

I appreciate what you say about well-made clothes. Designer labels can be better quality but not always because sometimes you are only paying for the name. I have a bit of everything. Some of the designer pieces I own I happened to find in op shops etc. It is a great way to shop when you are on a budget but like the finer things in life like you do! I have clothes I bought in Kmart and Target as well. As long as I like the item, it is of a decent quality and it suits me I will buy it if I can afford it.

i usually don't care about the brand. however most of my styles do fall in the expensive category. i can't say though that not all expensive clothes are nice. it's just that i think because these expensive brands can afford the best designers, then, their clothes really do come out nice.

Welcome to mylot oxaquaxo
I usually don't go mall to buy shirt pant, because i don't go for ready made dresses, so no brand name for my pants and shirts, i prefer stitched to order stuff, because the fitting is perfect, highly comfortable..
Thank you so much for this discussion.
Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.
God bless you. Welcome always.

I would shop more at the higher end shops if my current situation allowed it. But I do have four children and we have everything we need as well as a few extras occasionally. I feel that sence of success when I see my children smile and the comforts of my home. I do agree that when you get the higher quality items, you will feel good about yourself. So I will make these purchases when I find a good price and still buy a few items as you can only wear so much!

I would love to be able to buy the more expensive clothes. I went into the expensive store to buy my "casual" wedding dress (knee length with tuxedo jacket) but I would not splurge on something like that if I would only wear it once. Because of the style I have been able to wear it again.
The other issue is my weight. I don't want to spend money on nice clothes if they aren't going to look that nice on me because I am a little overweight - plump in the waist area. My weight yo-yos a bit. I see nice outfits in catalogues and think I'm going to buy it for myself but then realize it won't look the same on me.
I don't work so I don't have to dress up every day like I used to. I spent this whole winter in long slimming zip up hoodies and yoga pants. Frankly I'm sick of them but they are comfortable and I don't look plumpy. My trips to the treadmill are sporadic (started up again last week and then came down with a cold so taking it easy right now). It's frustrating really. I want to get my weight down so I can buy really nice clothes.

I am the exact opposite. I go for bargains. For the same price, I would prefer to have more pieces so that there can be variety. I do not go after designer brands. Cheaper stuffs can also be good quality and success, in my opinion, is not measured by how one thinks but what others perceive. As long as I am happy, I am happy.

I think most of us like to have some nice things. Good material and nicely made. I would go to the place that has the best sales and keep them happy so they continue to have these sales. I don't go to the Mall but I love to shop online. And there are some sales that are ONLY online so that is an added plus as well.

Hi,
I am not going for branded goods when come to
shopping for clothes,bag,etc.
For me, as long as the cutting of the clothes suit me and the
price is reasonable, then I will buy it.
I love Mango brand when come to clothes.Especially during sales period, I
like to shop Mango clothes.

i've been using branded products almost exclusively for the past many years and i prefer it that way. i do it mainly for the quality and reliability. sure they are expensive and the cost of one product can afford several cheaper items, but they pay off better in the long run. i'm not required to buy for extended periods. another secondary reason would be bargaining. i think i'm one of the worst people when it comes to bargaining. it's just not for me and i usually give away whatever price people ask me to pay for goods. branded products score an advantage there too.

While it feels good to wear quality designer clothes, we must take into consideration of course the budget we have in our wallets. Nowadays, there are clothes of the same quality but cheaper in price. If you can afford those brands it as in "really" can afford it, without the other necessities being compromised, go for it. Personally I choose to wear the not so expensive ones. It takes a wise buyer to end up purchasing clothes of lower monetary value without having to compromise the quality of the goods. That makes the shopping more challenging.

i still prefer to buy cheap decent clothes rather than the expensive branded ones even though i have the money... for me, i always thought why should i spend so much money on clothes if i can get cheaper ones as long as they fit me and i am happy... i can use the remaining money for other more useful things... take care and have a nice day...

When I am shopping I think I have a big family who loves any thing I get them Even If it is expensive or not so I tend to think that in that case more would be better with my big family. If I go to an expensive store I can only get something for me and I realy enjoy getting things for my daughters.

Clothing does not have to be expensive to be of good quality or make us happy to wear them. There are many brands without designer labels that are just as good or even better. We get what we pay for. This includes paying for a name.

I go for cheaper but decent clothes. I have a young child, and anything that has to be dry cleaned is out of the question. I would rather buy a few different tops that I can mix and match with other pieces than just one or two. I do not have to have name brand clothes to know that I have succeeded. Having a daughter, a husband, a job and a house tell me that I have succeeded.

When I want to use the clothes for a long time and on several occasions, then i would buy branded items especially in pants. But if I need the dress for only one occasion and never wear it again, I look for a decent and cheap ones because I will just give it away after using it once.
When it comes to swimsuits, I buy the branded ones because I use them often and don't want them to wore out easily.
