"Someone Has Stolen My Snowman!"

Unbelievably, a woman in Kent actually dialled 999 (an emergency number) to report her snowman being stolen. Apparently, she had used two £1 coins for the eyes but I can't see that being the reason she rang up. She's just thick and should've known better. The video below has the original conversation between the caller and Kent Police. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2xNshiVSfM

Hi Janey. I don't think I would have called the emergency number for a stolen snowman. She was silly to use a coin for the eyes in the first place. But during the holidays everyone has to be concerened about crime that is when all the nuts come out and do things they wouldn't do normally.

Hi Janey. She may be lying who knows but her and The LORD. Oh well what goes around comes around. She did a pretty silly thing calling the emergency number.

She sounded as though she was "two screws short of a toolbox" in my opinion.

When all's said and done, she's been a bit silly and who knows? She may have been lying about the coins..or the snowman..or both!

I think that people that are time waster should get a fine, rather than get noticed like this, as this could set a trend with other people phoneing the police.I just think that some people should think before they act.It angers me that how thick some people can be.

I know she hasn't been fined, just reprimanded by the Police, as they know more than anybody else that her daft call could cost someone else their life..so it's that they have concentrated on. In a way, I'm glad it's made the news and I'm sure people will take on board what the Police have said, rather than what the caller did. I'd like to think so anyway!

Janey you are right! I am a nurse in a nursing home and we had a situation where the sicker person had a delay in getting to the hospital because of someone else wasting Emergency Services. This girl at work hurt her foot several months ago and was on restricted duty. She was mad because Worker's Compensation didn't approve a surgery that she thought she needed. She called 911 because her foot hurt. Not even 5 minutes after the paramedics left with her, another resident went into respiratory distress and had to wait for an ambulance from a further away station to come get her because the girl who didn't need it used the ambulance from down the street. Thankfully, the respiratory resident survived and is doing fine.

Oh dear. That's unfortunate. I'm glad the respiratory resident is doing fine but it isn't always so in these situations, is it?

LOL.... People can do anything, for any reason... Wonder what the cops did... !!! Any news about that?

That is how it should have gone, I imagine... Some people consider themselves too important... Self-important fool, as Holmes calls them... ;)

As far as I know she got reprimanded by them. I should imagine someone important probably rang her up to tell her not to do it again as she may stop a "real" emergency call from getting through.

Are you into Sherlock Holmes then? Recently, we had a MODERN version of Sherlock on the telly. It pulled in so many viewers that the BBC just have to make some more. It was brilliant comparing the old with the new..but I don't know so much about the old so don't go quizzing me about it!

What springs to mind - Vicki Pollard!! But it does make me wonder whether the area that person lives is actually blighted with crime and they are so sick of nothing being done that they are forced to report everything to get some attention. Even so reporting a snowman being stolen is just beyond belief, not that someone would steal it, many years ago when I was a kid somone actually came into our back garden and tried to steal one, but that they think the police will take it seriously.

I really couln't be bothered stealing a snowman either. Hubby reckons it probably melted and she was too thick to realise!

I bet, if she checked closer, the snowman's still there. Rather than move it...they melted it. I'd fine her; the charge -- stupidity.

She was definitely the last in the queue when they were handing out brains. I'm just glad it wasn't someone up north. Southerners are always saying we're thick..well, on that evidence, those darn sarf are catching up rapidly in the stupidity department!

I should be relieved that this isn't limited to England..but I'm not.

That's how I feel about the Northeast and California. They think the rest of the country is "thick". Not all, of course, but way too many.

There was a show on a while back and it was like a "behind the scenes" of the police call centre, it showed some of the stupid reasons people call the emergency number, one lady called because her mobile had been cut off and therefor only allowed her to make emergency calls and she wanted to know if she could be transferred to Orange (her phone network). I honestly think people should be fined and have their name published in their local papers to show everyone how stupid they have been for making these calls, especially right now as with the snow and ice the emergency services have enough to deal with.

I know charges for 999 calls have been banded about for years. Different numbers other than 999 for non-urgent calls as well. No excuse for this woman though. Shown up on national media..definitely the way to go with people like her!

I have seen and heard of people calling the emergency numbers for many foolish things. Like the fast food restaurant being out of the food they ordered. It is just strange and like they do not even have half a brain.

I collect snowmen figurines and I have several in my yard so I would report if one of them were stolen, but not if it were a snowman made of snow. People do some strange things, don't they?

Well, yes, that's what the lady at the emergency call centre thought initially..and I would too. No way would I think she meant "a snowman made of snow that I made myself." What a silly woman she was. I hope she got a good telling off by the Police..in fact, I know she did, and quite right too!

Even if I were to call and report something stolen from my yard, unless the thief was still in my yard I would not use the emergency number, but I would use the other number.

Yes, I've done that myself. Rang the number for the actual police station rather than 999. It's common sense really, isn't it my friend?

Oh my gosh lol. Shouldnt she realize that a theft is not an emergency to call 911 or whatever 999 is. If it is an acutal theft you call the police not the emergency dispatchers. People need to realize that when they call the dispatchers over stupid stuff like that someone who is in an actual emergency might not get through and get the help they need as fast as they should be able to.

That's ridiculous. If I lost 2 £ i'd be a little annoyed and forget about if I was the emergency service laugh and her and fin her at least 100£ for wasting emergency services time. I don't know what's wrong with her and it's actually so stupid it's funny.I would never ever think of doing that.

999 calls are for emergencies ONLY and this woman should (and will) know this. Maybe if the call wasn't free then she would've thought twice about dialing 999 like that. Silly woman!
