How far do you take it?

Decorations for the Christmas season. Do you decorate everything and everyone in your path? just one room? We decorated the other day, I deep clean the house, move the furniture around then I mostly decorate the living room. There is a little in the kitchen and dining room, but I keep it mostly in the living room. When decorating do you think about how to take them down? Do you put up less to make the job easier? When do you put up decorations and when do you take them down?

I use to decorate inside and out when I lived in town. But now that I live out in the country, I just decorate inside. And this year, all I did was put up a tree. I haven't even pulled down the boxes of other stuff I have. But I need to pull the boxes down to get wrapping paper, ribbon, etc., so my guess is there will be more decorations up than the tree. I usually put up the tree about this time each year. But since my nephew was here from NYC at Thanksgiving, I had him help. So the tree went up the day before Thanksgiving. Even when I'm putting the tree up, I'm thinking about what a pain it is to take it down. For me, it's easier putting the tree up, than taking it down. I don't know why that is, when the effort is almost the same. I usually take everything down Jan. 2 or thereabouts.

lol I know what you mean. I think it is because of the happy feelings putting it up, then when taking it down, we tend to feel a little deflated.

Hiya laglen, On the first of December I usually put up the Decorations that I have. They are not many either. But I am so glad that I have what I have got. Usually in the Living Room I make a space for the Christmas Tree and start putting it altogether myself. In fact I do it all myself. I also take the Tree down before midnight on the 6th of January and pack everything away. No I don´t decorate everyone I can find in my path They can just about bear the Christmas Tree being there and that´s it. They don´t mind all the Celebrations with their Friends though that is different. So they leave me to get on with it all and that´s it. I love to see other People´s Decorations as well. Especially when we are going past in the Car. I am looking to see what other People have put up in their Houses but alas this Year very far and few between. I went into a Bar the other Day and he had a set of Angels on his Tree that are wonderful. Sort of things you cannot buy in every Corner Shop or Store.

Our Youth Group at church adopted a couple of families and we delivered food and presents on Christmas Eve. We enjoyed looking at all of the decorations. That just topped the night!

Hiya laglen, I love to do things like that but have not been able to as such for such a long time. Things don´t work like that here very much. You will get isolated cases but for the most very poor People are isolated and maybe they might have a Neighbour that takes them Food just to see them through the coldest nights and Days. One Man here put a Shooting Star Decoration in his Field and seeing as there was no other lights around it really stood out and was beautiful to look at.

I do not make any decorations for Christmas. However if I were to make it, it will be just sufficient such that the room will not be too clustered. I prefer an airy room. Same for Christmas trees. There should be room for breathing.

My family always put up decorations in the first or second week of November. My parents are kind of Christmas addicts so they don't mind putting a lot of decorations even if it means more cleaning up after Christmas. Mostly it's in the living room where the tree is. That's where they put up the nativity set to so everyone can see it when they go to our house. We also have a lot in the porch, the wreath, lights, Christmas figurines. We have little decoration almost everywhere in the house, except the rooms because no one would see the decorations in there anyway.

Sometimes they do. :) But our bedroom door are inside a hallway that is barely seen so there's really no point in doing that since no one ever sees them but us.

We actually didn't do a lot of decorating at our house last year. It was the first Christmas that we had in our own house and we really didn't have a lot which was a big part of the reason that we didn't do a lot of decorations. In addition to that, my son was three years old last year and I was also watching my three and one year old nieces and we didn't want to have a lot of things out that they could have torn up. This year we won't be doing a lot of decorating either because we have two kittens now.

I used to decorate EVERYTHING in the house. I would even take books off the bookshelves and put decorations there. I don't do that anymore, and every year I say I am going to do less, but once I get started, I end up doing as much. I usually take them down the first week in January. I used to work for an inventory company and was very busy in January. Some years, I didn't get to take them down until February.

My husband goes nuts outside decorating..lol But inside it is contained to mostly the living room and might spill only a little into the kitchen but not a lot. I live in a trailer and my living room and kitchen is an open area. We haven't even started this year yet and we have a few inches of snow already and supposed to get more and it is 18 degrees out right now. I have a feeling my husband should have put up the lights either before or right after Thanksgiving when it was still a decent temperature to decorate in.

I have kept my childhood tradition of decorating the front door, hallway and living room on Christmas Eve and then they all come down on All Kings Day (January 6TH).

We keep our decorations simple this time of year. I would like to decorate a little more, but not to much. Right now all we have is a tree and some Christmas cards. We take our decorations down on New Years day. My Dad use to take the tree down on the 26th of December...I just have to keep it up to enjoy the lights.

I enjoy decorating for Christmas. i used to decorate outside when the children were younger. Now i limit my decorating to inside. i don;t decorate every room of my house. I like to decorate the rooms that people will use the most and the decorations can be enjoyed.

I used to go all out but well,to me it's just another holiday that I have to put up with. (Yeah, just call me Mrs Scrooge! [em] ) This year is a simple tree and lights, all the the living room and front hallway where people come in. Now, this year I did something different, I tacked 2 half-boxes of miniture candy canes to the wall, at eye level so that our guests can grab one. Depending on how well that goes, I'll see if I can make better-looking Cross-Stitch boxes with a little xmas design on them. I was reading on another MyLot post about kids making paper chains, so I think I'll get them started on that, they can decorate their rooms! I miss those days where we did the at school. 2 years ago, I made a new family tradition, stemming from my 2nd foster home, and that was to make a Ginger Bread House. That'll be a decorative house for now, then I'll let the kids break it all down and take it to school after the holiday season is over. I think that's just about it!

Well I am one of the ones that loves to decorate everyone that is in sight.I love to use a lot of different decorations and usually go to different stores in order to get a nice variety.I live snowmen and elves and reindeer the most and try to get a full display outside of my home so people can observe it walking by.Almost all of my neighbors put up similar displays during the Christmas season and I really enjoy looking at them as some are quite impressive and they are very bright and colorful and are very fun to look at and take pictures of to show others.

I decorate mostly in the living room because it's too hard to get to things in the kitchen and in the bathroom I'm always afraid something will get broken. I put up quite a bit, though... enough that it takes me all day to do it. I usually decorate the day after Thanksgiving and it all stays up until the New Year, then I take it down and do a deep cleaning.

I have started my deep clean today and I am going to finish it tomorrow. Today I have done the kitchen other than the floor and done the ironing. Tomorrow I am going to do the floors in my house and tidy the other rooms, which basically consists of putting things in their proper places. On my way out to work today I am going to take the bins out, which always makes the house look tidier. Tomorrow I am going to start putting up my decorations, I am just having a tree and some candles. No one comes to my house at Christmas, since I go to my parents, therefore I don't see the point in going all out. I tend to take them down in the beginning of January.

We put up our tree.. that was about the extent of our decorating. We used to have holiday knick knacks we'd put on shelves and mantles.. but this house offers no shelves or mantles so we weren't able to put up our knick knacks. Some years we'll hang lights inside the house in different rooms just to brighten it up.. this year we didn't. Shoot.. you know what.. it just dawned on me I didn't see our stockings in any of the decorations we brought out of the shed yesterday... wonder if we lost them or if I threw them away (we had rodents in our shed so when I cleaned it over the summer I did toss a lot). Crud.. I have to buy new stockings, argh!!! When we take the decorations down typically depends on my kids. Most years I take the tree down on Christmas day because I get so tired of the kids playing with it. This year however, the little ones seem to be leaving it alone well enough.. so I'll probably take it down whenever I feel like it.. but definitely by New Year's.

Generally my family put up the lights on the house and outside decorations on Thanksgiving afternoon and the day after. We then put up the Christmas tree and inside decorations throughout December whenever is best for us. We used to go all out with it but recently we have started to lessen the load.

I love to watch those fancy and oh so shiny decorations,in this country people usually don't go over the top,but then again some do,I must say that even tho I don't properly celebrate Christmas,I LOVE snowmen, polar bears and penguins! I'd have those up all year along with Halloween ones. I think my mom will put up the tree anytime soon, I'll do it for her actually, such a good idea, thanks a lot!!

I plan to limit my Christmas decorations this year. My two year old daughter is too naughty that in just minutes she gets an object and plays it, even if it is ceramic.
