My dog killed the neighbor's chicken...AGAIN!

My dog Jumong had done it again. This is the second time he killed a chicken from the neighbor. He hates chicken. And every time he sees one, he chase and kill them when he catch them. Last night, I let him loose and open the gate to let him roam outside. Unfortunately, the neighbor's chicken went outside too and was chased by Jumong. Te owner tried to get it back but it was too late. He dropped the chicken just in time for the taxi to pass and squashed the chicken flat to the ground. I was so ashamed I talked to the owner and said I would replace it instead. It's a good thing he understands that it's not the dog's fault because they don't have like the people's mind who understands between wrong and right. But his wife was really pissed. He threw stones at my dog. I was hurt but I couldn't blame her. I learned the chicken was dear to them. I love my dog and I don't want to punish him just because of what he did. But I don't want him to be tied up always outside. There's so much energy in him that the backyard is not enough for him to run free. That's why I let him go outside and wait for him to tire and returns home. But this is the second time now, I am not sure if letting him out again would do us both good.

Its not your fault since they should keep their chickens in a pen and blaming your dog for them not keeping their chickens is not right their are the ones being stupid. Its just like if a person lets their cat run free and complains that some dog eats it.Even in the country chickens are kept in a pen or fince every time I went to any farm.

It's true. Chickens should be kept inside a pen unless of course you live in a farm and you got a big land where they can roam around freely and no neighbors dogs can harm them. We are living in a village and they should have known better not to let their chicken wander in the neighborhood. Even if there in no dog that can chase it, there are other people who would be interested in catching it to eat it. It just so happen the incident had gotten all the blame for my dog roaming outside.

Once a dog kills a chicken, he won't stop. Our neighbors dog killed all of our chickens. My kids were so sad. At least the bunnies were all penned up.

Well it's not entirely your dog's fault, your neighbor has to take blame too, because his chicken was also let loose. My neighbors used to hate my dog too, that why they poisoned the poor thing :( ! He used to steal my neighbor's shoes in front of their doors and he would bring them home to us, now that was something to be ashamed of :D. But don't worry, it's typical for a dog to chase other animals, it's not his fault ;).

Yeah, I thought about that too. They are suppose to keep their chicken inside a fence or something as we are living in a subdivision and not somewhere in the province. That's too bad for your dog. Thanks for your response.

Thanks. I feel better for the response I get here in mylot. The owner mentioned he saw my other dog Chacha (coz I let my two dogs out at the same time) but was not alarmed because she just ignored the chicken. But he didn't see Jumong coming so he was not able to get hold of the chicken and before he knew it, my dog had it his mouth and was running with it away from its owner.

Hmm...a dog hating a chicken instead of a cat? I think it's just his nature. Superstitious people may say that your dog has grievances with the chicken in its past life. Ok, dogs are known to be hyperactive so it's better to let him out but do be sure to keep an eye on him

I guess it would really be best if you had your dog tied all the time or if you can you can play with your dog in your yard to lessen his energy. I also have this dog at home who's very energetic, good thing he doesn't chase after chickens since there are a lot of chickens in our place. My dog however is afraid of chickens, he tries his best not to pass by them.

OMG!
What a scary pet:) hehe.
He dislikes chicken so much:)
But letting your dog tied up all day is a bit depressing for the dog.
If you are a true pet lover you`ll understand what he have done and try to train him not to do that again.[I think it is very hard hehe:)]
Pet also deserves to freely travel on their sorroundings:)
They also want to meet their LOVE ONE`s:)
And Plan to have a Happy family haha:)

I think its your neighboor's responsibility to keep their chicken in a safe place. But if you dont want to get in a fight with them, i gues that you will have to keep your dog contained for one or two days, just to show him that killing the chickens isnt a very good thing.
