I was shopping at a well-known mall to pick a gift for a co-worker. When I arrived to pay at the cashier, the cashier is offering a temporary advantage card which enables me to earn points when I shop at their mall along with other benefits with the card. I refuse the offer, saying that I'm not a habitual shopper and one of my household already owns a card. But the cashier persisted and very adamant to the point that I was considering to call her manager for not being able to take the hint that I don't want the card whatsoever. Finally, I noticed an idle cashier, took my gift, ran away from the annoying female and paid the gift. Have you experienced a situation like this?

Well, I'm used to people asking me if I have a point card and if I want to make one, but the very moment I say no they usually stop insisting, and I'm very happy about that. However what I have found many times are the typical annoying shop assistants who need to follow you through all the shop saying if they can help you, and after you refuse the help, they insist more and try to force you to buy stuff. That makes me run away from the shop and never come back again, so I don't understand why do they use those techniques and how do they think people want to be harrassed in shops.

Yes and you should of reported her to management. I guarantee you that she is harrassing other customers just as she did you. I'm a cashier and whenever we are promoting something, we are told just to mention it to the customer and move on with it. Around the corner at the convenience store I go to a lot, there is this one worker who is selling wreaths that she and her friend makes. Well, I told her that I have no place to hang one. She proceeded to try to convince me to buy one as a gift. I told her I couldn't off the top of my head think of anyone I would want to give one to and money is really tight. Not sure I want to spend 20.00 on a wreath that will have to be thrown out after xmas. Still, each time I go in there, she bugs me. It's to a point that if I see her car there, I will just go down further to the next store.

The cashiers were trained to do that kind of stuff, offer and persuade the customers to buy this you'll receive that, take this to be entitled to that 'things' and so on. I can't see anything wrong with that because that it is their job not to mention they would receive a certain percentage or commission for every transaction closed. But the main thing is they are very insensitive and stubborn to accept No is absoulutely NO.
I've been in that situation and I think it may work if you give them an authoritative voice with irritated look or better yet warn or report them to their immediate superior if still persisting.

That is insane! I think that there is something in it for the cashier some type of reward or benefit but wow! I think i still would of complained that cashier will probably wind up doing the same thing to another customer.

Yes I have and I do as you, I find another cashier or another store. If I answer no that means I do not want what they are selling. If they can't hear me the first time I say it again and if that isn't enough I take the purchases I was going to pay for, lay them on the counter and proceed out the door without them, if there isn't another cashier without the harassment. Usually I end up walking out.
What I do when I get home is I get online, I find the store web-page, go to the contact page to find away to send an email to the corporate store. Sometimes I get an apology and sometimes I don't get any answer. There are times I end up with a coupon of some kind. Thing is when I go back to the store, usually the irritating cashier isn't there.

Im always getting offered them, except usually its a store credit card so my answer is usually no way!! They can be persistant but I think they get rewards for signing people up. I hear all sorts of reasons why I should sign "it saves you 20% today" "you can use it in all these stores" "it has a low interest rate" "you'll only have to pay a little each month". So I hear every excuse going to try to sign me up, but I just tell them that I dont want any credit cards at all.
