Christmas, Christmas, Christmas...I've been seeing a lot of posts about Christmas here in myLot recently and thought of asking if anyone have something they don't like with Christmas...
I love Christmas but I don't like the fact that people expect to receive gifts on this day...what does getting gifts have to do with the spirit of Christmas? Yeah, this is a spirit of giving and it's a good thing to receive a gift from someone but it seems like children right now are expecting to receive gifts during Christmas, I heard my students talking about the gifts that they expect to receive on Christmas....isn't this sad?

The traffic and the expenses! Expect your credit card to max out!
It is a happy season but sadly it has become too commercialized. It is a season for capitalist now. Somehow the reall meaning of Christmas is lost behind the hustle and bustle

I think my least favorite thing about Christmas is the crowds. Something that should take no more than ten minutes takes you fourty five or more because of the line of people infront of you. And I was never spoiled enough to expect any certain thing for Christmas. Kids now days are just too spoiled.

I am glad you can handle crowds. I have panic attacks and don't do well in crowds at all. Way too spoiled to be sure.

to me, giving presents has a lot to do with the spirit of Christmas. it's one of my favourite parts.
notice I say GIVING presents. no one will deny that it's exciting to see what people you love have chosen for you, but the real excitement is in waiting for the things you have chosen to be opened and see the look on your loved ones face.
if we got rid of getting presents at Christmas then we'd also be losing GIVING presents and that would take away one of the lovely things about it.
I look at the pile under my tree, and think of how happy people will be to receive the things I've chosen. it makes you think about your loved ones, and spend time thinking about the things that they enjoy, and what makes them happy, and it makes you feel all warm inside.
so presents are very much a part of the spirit of Christmas. not from a materialistic viewpoint but from the point of the spirit of giving. not to receive something in return but because you want that person to receive something lovely from you.

I know that, but sometimes the spirit of giving is overshadowed by the spirit of receiving
But yes of course giving is something wonderful about Christmas and I hope that the children would be taught this, that when they receive something they should be thankful and not to get upset if the things that they wanted to get are not the things inside the wrapped boxes you gave them...

It probably has to be the Christmas movies for me! There tend to be a lot of repeats but I don't mind this. One thing I have noticed is the James Bond movies, they tend to come on a lot around this time of year! I don't mind Christmas otherwise although I don't celebrate with family or anything like that, my family passed away many years back.
I think that Christmas has definitely become commercialised now and it's all about present giving and shopping and the like. I think that this time of year also brings a lot of people that much closer to each other. Andrew

I have never enjoyed the fact of decorating so much. I mean a few lights outside or inside is one thing. I don't even have anything wrong with the special parks and areas where they design vast amounts of lights. However, some suburban houses just go to far out I believe. I mean just hte thought of how much time and effort is put into that is somewhat astounding to me.

I actually like looking at Christmas lights
But, we don't put too much lights up because my mother is conscious of our electric consumption (she wants to help the environment)

Yes, it is sad but somebody did start this thing a long time ago.Sure, it nice to give and receive gifts but the thought about Christmas is about the birth of our Saviour,Jesus. We commune with Our Lord Jesus during that day, celebrate a little because it is His birthday. But who started this gift-giving though nice, of course..anyway?

I guess because on this day God gave us a gift that is Jesus and parents (yeah I think it was the parents of the long a go Christians who started this tradition) wanted to give gifts to their children like God did to us whaddya think?

I hate the cold!
I'm in a tropical country so a cold December here is nothing to those who have winter season but I still hate it. A lot of people get sick during this time and the virus spreads fast.

Me too, I love the hot climate of the Philippines and right now it's raining in Cebu and I'm wearing socks so I won't feel the cold ;D

I really love pretty much everything about Christmas. I dont have any complaints. I guess the only thing that I can think of that I dont like is all the garbage after opening presents. Theres boxes and wrapping paper and packaging. So much goes to the landfill. We dont have recycling pick up here so it just is so much garbage going to the curb after Christmas. We are only allowed to put out two garbage cans of garbage each week and with regular garbage along with the extra Christmas garbage its usually around 4 cans full. So I burn all the christmas packaging and wrapping. That saves me from having to put out two cans full of garbage.

I never thought of that...I guess because here in Philippines, especially my mother uses recycled gift wrappings and well, mainly I don't have the responsibility of cleaning up after the party ;D

it gets so overwhelming sometimes, it gets so chaotic.lol so i find that the least thing i like about christmas, with all the rush and stuff. hahaha but for the gift giving, well i also hear my kids too but kids are kids, i really expect them to be that way and this is the time of the year that i do intend of giving them what they want...

But I hope not everything they want though, right?
I guess I can't fault parents about this especially since your children are the best gifts you have but I hope they understand that the real meaning of Christmas is celebrating the birth of Christ...

I think my least favorite thing about christmas is that sometimes we can't always be with all of our family. Kids move away from home, and it's ften hard for them to come back home for the holidays.

I don't like this too, since there are many times my father is also not around for Christmas...I learned to accept it and enjoy the fact that I still have most of my family around me...

Well, Christmas is suppose to be a nice time for everyone. But, sometimes you can't help but feel sorry for people who can not enjoy Christmas. Another least favorite thing about Christmas is spending a whole lot of cash for this day.

thing that i hate abou christmas is all the hussle and bussle going from shop too shop in giant lines and also the way that shops almost triple the price of toys and other things. There is no need for shops too put up the prices they make enough anyway and people could get a lot more if they brought gifts in the january clearence sales where they sell everything off really cheap.I also think christmas is a bit too much glorified now as there are people that dont even know about the tradition and still celebrating it too celebrate it you should be made too know at least the traditional stuff.

I don't get the high prices either!
And your right, nowadays only a little people celebrate Christmas traditionally, but I think for me that's okay, as long as they retain the real meaning of Christmas!

Does anyone agree with me that putting decorations away after Christmas is a drag? I would have to say that is my least favorite thing about Christmas. And I usually forget one or two items that I find days later when I thought I had everything put away for another year. Who wants to drag out that box to stuff another decoration in it? Oh well, I have to admit I love Christmas overall.

I'm not the one who cleans up after the celebration is over, but I got to admit when I have my own family I would not love putting away the decorations too

It is a shame that children just see Christmas as a time to receive gifts but I guess it is up the family to teach the children that there is a deeper meaning to the Festive Season. I don’t like the amount of money some people expect to spend for gifts; it seems to be all about buying the latest gadget or design and not choosing a present that comes from the heart. Oh...I also hate lack of parking spaces at the mall at this time of year!

My favorite thing about Christmas is the fact that I can spend time with my family and get a break from the stresses of the busy work week.I go to college during the week Monday to Friday and have a part time job on the weekends to help pay for my college loan and expenses that I have going to college like rent , food, transportation etc.I have almost a whole week off in around 2 weeks from now and I cannot wait until then as I am going to sleep in as much as I can and enjoy it.I love the holidays and will probably eat quite a bit but will try to set limits for myself.Happy Holidays everyone!

My least favorite thing about Christmas will be Christmas shopping. It's not because I have to spend money and it's not because I don't want to give...it is the traffic jam that I don't like. I don't know why people always have to rush when there are actually many months to get gifts for the people they care about, and I myself is guilty of being a Christmas shopper crammer, so when Christmas season starts, it also mean a long trip to malls which was just minutes away on an ordinary day...
