I would sincerely like to know what Thanksgiving is all about, when it is, what you do? I am sure I could look it up on the web,but I want to find out from my new friends how important Thanksgiving is to them. Does your family have special food, ceremonies, church services, whatever. i am really interested

Thanksgiving is an American tradition that stems for the first shared meal between the Native Americans and Pilgrims upon the arrival of the Pilgrims in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Having struggled to develop a relationship, both groups gathered to share a feast of thanks. The crops that were grown had been harvested, and the Pilgrims learned a great deal about living from the Native Americans.
Thanksgiving has been celebrated here on the 4th Thursday of November. Families typically gather with loved ones and "feast" as an opportunity to give thanks for the many Blessings of the year. Turkey, stuffing, potatoes, corn, apple pie are some of the traditional items eaten, but families sometimss have other items that are their traditions. It is also a day where many people recognize those less fortunate - the hungry, homeless and those in need - and will donate food, time or money to assist others. It's a holiday where we slow down, reflect on our good fortunate and try and help those less fortunate. At least this is what Thanksgiving means to me.

Thank you very much for your response. I somehow thought Thanksgiving was a whole weekend, so it will be happening this Thursday coming then - and I will be thinking of all the new friends I have made on MyLot. It sounds wonderful that apart from just having a good meal with your friends and family, you also take care of those who are less fortunate. I wish I was there this Thursday - I think I would love it :)

Not sure where you live, but may I suggest you start your very own tradition of thanks and invite your loved ones to share a special meal together. Then you can let them know how thankful you are for them and see if they'll share something they're thankful for.
