Job stress can be defined as a physical and mental responses that occur when the demand / job requirements do not match the capabilities, resources, and needs workers. Job stress can lead to a worsening of health status or even crash.
The definition of work stress can sometimes be confused with challenge, but the two concepts are not the same. Challenges can encourage us mentally and physically. Challenges motivate us to learn new skills and master our jobs. When the challenge is reached, we will feel calm and satisfied. Thus, the challenge is an important component to health and productive work.
But in different situations, challenges can turn into job demands that can not be resolved, a sense of calm turn into fatigue, and complacency turned into a sense of stress. And within an instant, this stage leads to pain, injury, and failure to work.

Ha, I used to get so stressed at work sometimes by all the work to do in such a short period of time - I was overwhelmed. Especially when I first started my job, and when I had a boss who left me almost ALL of her work to do! It was super stressful, but after a while, I definitely learned how to a) increase efficiency (I got MUCH MUCH MUCH faster at what I do), b) take things step-by-step instead of getting overwhelmed by the bigger picture and c) prioritize. Leave work for later that I don't necessarily need to get done that second. I rarely get stressed out at work. I am more stressed out than anything if I get stuck in traffic or have some problem commuting. Getting to work on time and being punctual is something that stresses me out when I have to worry about it. But once I'm at work, it's usually as stress-free as it could be!

Worked for the same place nine years and three times I've been on the verge of a nervous breakdown and once I've been off with stress for a week. They continue to reduce staff and give us more work until we break and wind up having to step away from the job for our own sanity.
It's not just the capabilities - we have the capability to do the job, they just make the job heavier and heavier until it exceeds our capacity and then victimise us because we're not super human.

I agree, and I wish more employers would recognise that these days there is a lot of stress in the workplace, and it can lead to physical illnesses and other mental illnesses, so its time for employers to realise that it exists and to try to make the day less stressful. Im glad you said about challenges being different, because some people think that stress is just something you get when you are challenged, which is wrong like you have said. I enjoy challenges, I dont enjoy stress!
