Waking up early.

Hi Mylotters, good day. These two days, I tried waking up early to study, at 5.30am. So I set my handphone to ring and it rang, I woke up and switched it off. Here it is, my laziness. I wanted to really wake up and study, but my mind told me to sleep for a while more. Alright, a while more it is and I finally woke up after 3 hours. I did not manage to wake up early, ARGH! I don't know why but last time when I was in high school, I used to be able to wake up early and study but I couldn't do it nowadays. I think it's my bad habit of procrastination. I really must eliminate it by 2011!

If you have stronger will, you definitely can do it better. You can get up early, it just you don't want to. I used to be like that, and I want to make something different. Sometimes, everyday morning I get up, I thought to myself, how long would I be like this. Some day, I want to make myself better than today now.

I could never wake up early because during the semestral break, I got myself used to sleeping late watching movies or playing DOTA in my laptop.

Me too. Once my holidays come, I'll be in a playing spree. But nowadays, I doubt I'll be doing that.

Well, that's how it is when you're young and you barely have any responsibilities.

Haha, sometimes it takes waking up before you can jump into doing something (such as studying, reading, working, etc). Our bodies change. I used to be able to sleep in until 10, 11am on the weekends and now I find myself waking up at 7am, regardless of whether or not I NEED to be up that early. It's a pain!! But the only way we can change it, I think, is by re-adjusting our schedules slowly overtime.

It can be done, just a matter of whether we want to do it or not. Even for me, during the weekends, I also sleep till quite late until my parents call me up. Now, it's going to be my holiday period in a few days time as it's my Common Test period now and I'm having my last two papers this Friday. After that, I can sleep till late LOL!!!

Just try to change the habit slowly. You still have time before 2011 comes. You have been used to waking up late maybe that is why it's hard for you to wake up early. This is also my problem before. You see, i am not really a morning type of person but i have to wake up early because my work starts early. What i do is set my alarm clock on early everyday even if i don't have work so my mind and body will be used to waking up early. It worked for me, so maybe you can try it as well. Good luck :)

That is a good resolution. Waking up early is really hard to do though. It should be habit in itself. Good luck, hope you change your habit next year, or better yet starting now

Similar to you, lol. Especially in the winter, it's so hard for me to get up early in the morning. I have made decisions many many times to get up early enough at least for the breakfast time. But sometimes I still can't. I set my phone's alarm every morning but never get up on time. What a shame on me!! Come on, and we can do it as long as we have a strong will, in the coming year.

judgeironfist oh that is the hardest habit to establish as I have wanted to do that myself a few times. But being a student you do need to wake up when you hear the alarm go off.Start by going to be a littler earlier so you will not feel so sleep when getting up earlier to study.every time you manage to do that give yourself a pat on the back. keep at it and you will establish your new habit.

Hi, Sometimes.this kind of situation happened to me. I have set my mobile phone alarm to wake up at certain time and when it rangs, I will switch it off and continue to sleep. There are few times, I was thinking to lie down a little while, another 5 -10 minutes, but lastly, I over slept and I have to rush myself like no way. However, when come to study, if I have set certain to wakeup and study, I make sure I did it because I must have something important to revise, then only I will wake up early to study. Try to motivate yourself to get rid off this habit...once you have strong determination to achieve your goal, you sure can do it.

Hiya Judge, We have all done that at some time or another in our every Day lives. With the intention of getting up and getting things done. Don´t feel too bad about it. This Morning I have got up full of good intentions and most have gone out of the Window but I will recover them this Afternoon and carry them out. So even if you got up three hours later can you not try and study just your Notes even. All is not lost if you don´t get up at that time. I would try and fit it in by doing bits of studying here and there if you can´t manage all in one go. All of us procrastinate me first I put my Hand up too. But secondly I see I am going wrong and try to make the best of the Day whichever way I can. Of course I am not studying like you are but it´s just the same the intention.

It takes determination to wake up that early, and also to wake up the moment alarm rings. I have trained myself to do it, and i'm glad that i can wake up the moment it rings. First thing when the alarm rings, force yourself to sit up and open your eyes. Next, get out of your bed as soon as possible, leave your comfort zone. If u manage to do that, keeping awake won't be a problem anymore because u are already moving around.

13 Dec 10
Yea indeed. I tend to stick to my bed LOL! I think a majority of us do that too. I just have to use force as you said then it'll work.

Well I hope you can eliminate it then. I had the same experience with you when I was a student and yes when we talk about studying up early in the morning, it really isn't worth waking up at all. But then I found out something that could wake me up early even without an alarm clock and it's called INSPIRATION! I noticed that when I'm inspired to do something, my body just wakes up, too excited to face the day with this inspiration, be it a hobby or a person special to your heart. So i suggest you go and find that inspiration of yours to help you get up early in the morning!

Well that's a good New Year's Resolution or habit that you want to change this coming new year. I also recalled those days when I was in High School, Iused to wake up early in the morning at about 4:00 o'clock doing all my homeworks and reviews. But today,I could no longer do it, I enjoyed sleeping till eight in the morning. However, some people aged 50 above told me that when one reaches this aged, it is very common to wake up three or four in the mornign coz one could no longer sleep and would rather do the household chores in these hours.

Yea it's true. Maybe you can set a target or something that you want to do when you wake up, and that may help

I have tried, setting an alarm with noisy music can not wake me up,and recently i found,if i set alarm with light music is a good way.I won't switch off the alarm immediately and then turn on the light,in that way, i can always get up on time. You can have a try, it is my personal experiences.

Yea last time I used to set it with a song and I was able to get up. Maybe I should do that again.

hey ironfist ive bin in a similar situation last year and here is a little tip for u. If u want to set a habit then do a task repeatedly for 21 days ie u wanna wake up early then jus do it somhow for 21 days. After that it will be a part of your system. There is a scientific explanation for this as 21 days is the time taken for the creation of a neuron in the brain and it is where your 'habits' are set :) all the best
• Singapore
13 Dec 10
Hi esh, I've heard that too. Studies have indeed proven that once you do something repeatedly for 21 days as what you've stated, it'll become a habit. Ok, noted, thanks!

hi judgeironfist, I can relate with you. That was what I like before when I was still younger. I usually set the alarm but then when it rangs I turn it off and sleep again. Then I realized that putting the alarm on is just a non sense since I will go back to sleep again. When I started working, that is when I get matured. I started to discipline myself for waking up on the proper time. As for me, it is just a matter of willingness and being responsible. If you set your mind and your heart to your goal, whatever you wish will happen.

Hi annierose, thanks! I've been trying to kick off this bad habit for years. Seems that many people are suffering from this. But when I have school the next day and need to wake up early, I can! I just don't know why on weekends I cannot. Maybe I'm not tuned to the right frequency LOL! Well, maybe I just need to trick my mind into thinking that there's school the next day so that it'll listen to me.

Well, you can do it. The problem is that your not looking for what you need to do early. Your a student and you should wake up early to study your lesson. Even if your reviewing all your lesson at night...you still need to wake up early to review again...

hi there JudgeIronfist! When I was in elementary its really very easy for me to wake up early, but as I grow up, its becoming more and more difficult for me to wake up early. I think its becoz of the task that I am doing in school. As our level goes higher in school, the more task we have to perform and the harder it gets. We need to exert more efforts on lessons and by the time we get home and go to sleep our body craves for more time of rest. As people grows the needed time for them to rest also change..,

The same kind of thing happened to me as to you. Last 4-5 days, i have been trying waking up early in the morning, but not able to get up so early. Before going to sleep, i set the alarm daily for getting up early and working on mylot. Despite of it, i get up late as i listened to alarm and then switched off it. I think it is quite tough for me, but i am committed to waking up early. Despite of being lazy, i will change my this bad habit.

Hi JudgeIronFist! You should get rid of this habit as it can affect your studies. When you feel like falling to sleep again the next time around, try to think about your studies and how it will eventually lead to your future. I do this and managed to get up on time every single day. Maybe you can make 'waking up on time', your new year's resolution? Anyway, good luck!

Oh yes! I can actually think of some disaster that will happen to me if I don't wake up early HAHA! My New Year's resolution is to eliminate procrastination COMPLETELY! Thanks for the well wishes!
