How comfortable are you with fixing your computer yourself?

I would say that I am moderately comfortable. In the fact that if it is something that I know what it is and how to fix it from experience, I can get it done. Anything else, anything that I am even slightly unsure about, its time to call in the computer technician. I could do more damage by messing around with something that is out of my depth. So how about you?

Killahjem and megamatt, you both are more techie than I am, obviously. I'm very lazy, because if a problem occurs, I go immediately to System Restore. I'm not really fixing anything, but just resetting it to when it didn't have the probem. Consequently, the problem soon returns. My other 'great resource' is to shut down and start again a little later. Then there are disk cleaning, defragging and checking the registry software. That's the sum of my 'fixing' of the computer. However, I can ring the technician and he'll give me some tips and tricks over the phone if it the problem is something major.

Indeed, minor things, common sense, sure just give me a couple of minutes to carefully do it step by step. More complex things are another matter entirely. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I am fairly comfortable, but if get stuck I usually go online and find the answer that way. If that doesn't work I call someone who knows computers better. In my household I am the go to guy for computer problems so usually I have to troubleshoot the problem myself.
