My husband's father eats 2 boiled eggs each morning to go with his breakfast. My husband's mother is worried about him but he says that's what he was brought up on. He's already had one heart attack back in 2003, so that's why she was concerned. I rarely eat eggs, but I did hear that one should eat 3-4 eggs per week, max.
Now I'm seeing that the cholestral in eggs is actually good for you. So many conflicting reports and medical reports, I just hope he doesn't harm himself or anything. :-(

Wow. 2 eggs everyday? Isn't that a bit too much for one of his age and condition? Could be great for young, energetic people, but, maybe too much for him. I agree with 3-4 per week. For dieters, it's just max of 2 per week. It's good he eats them boiled. I've read somewhere that poaching it would even lower the calories. Wait, but, if his doctor thinks it's alright, then maybe it is alright.

The 6 week diet designed for weight loss has you eat 2 eggs every morning if you are female, and 3 eggs every morning if you are male, plus your added protein every three hours.

A lot of people gain weight because they are not eating. When you starve yourself (or don't eat the proper number of calories for your body) your body stores fat because it goes into survival mode. When this happens even if you go back to eating normally it will take time for your metabolism to work itself out.
And if you are someone who has not exercised and suddenly begins to exercise you are naturally going to gain weight before you lose it. The reason is because exercising makes you hungry, and you'll eat more calories. As you start to put on more muscle mass from exercise things will eventually balance out.

I recently read an article in a health magazine that recommends to eat eggs. The protein is good for you and eggs are a good start for getting protein.
The yolks is what contains the cholesterol but recent studies have found that your body absorbs the cholesterol from egg yolks differently from regular cholesterol so they now say that eggs are safe to eat without clogging your arteries.
I for one love eggs and have never had a problem with my cholesterol but I also stay away from extra greasy foods. I like stir fry and foods made in the crock pot. Crock pot foods steam it somewhat and keep a lot of the natural ingredients that are good for us.
I think each of us has a different way of processing what we eat so it is important for us to have our own personal diet geared toward our own bodies and metabolism.

wow, crockpot! I have a small one, I should be using it much more, thanks for the tip :-) I kinda figured that the eggs would be healthy for you as they're natural and un-processed/unrefined.

To tell you the truth, I just recently discovered that eggs are actually good for our body. I used to think that they were not and that was why I avoided them. Ever since I learned that, there's always an egg on our breakfast every morning.

I would imagine someone who already had a heart attack would be told by their physician abut cholesterol in taking. But I can imagine your father in law is like the old traditional people who insist that years ago people did not believe in such things.
My grandmother had uncontrolled diabetes and would call the doctors liars. Sometimes they will not listen as they are so old school. It is quite hard to convince them as the statistics are very confusing, where as one day they are bad and another day they are good for you.

At a very young age I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and told to eat only egg whites as the yolk was way too high in cholesterol. Have not touch a yolk since. Not to say that is what completely lowered mine but this is what the doctor told me to do along with other healthy eating.

The most recent things I have read say that one egg a day in an otherwise healthy diet is not going to hurt a person. Eggs are a good source of protein, and other healthy vitamins and minerals. They help you feel full and are not high calorie. Some studies believe that dietary cholesterol is not the harmful kind, but rather the cholesterol produced by the body. I think the best authority would be his doctor. More important is to get a reasonable amount of exercise and eat whole grains, fruits and vegetables as well.

Hello friend,
I hope your father in law understands the gravity of the situation soon enough and that he gets back to the normal, healthy breakfast.Normally, I also have two eggs a day on a regular basis and it doesn't harm anyone. However, given his heart attack history, it is not good for him and he should understand.

It would probably be more damaging to eat fried eggs, at least they are boiled! Salt is really bad too, but I buy eggs that are fed whole grain diets. I really don't think they are too bad for you like everyone says. I guess he could raise his own chickens like we used to do. They ate bugs and grass for their diet! I bet they had a lot less of the bad cholesterol too!

Well you are right about so many conflicting reports about how many eggs is too much! Or if it is good cholesterol or bad! I used to eat 15 quail eggs a day back in college. Nothing bad happened to me. Maybe it depends on the person. It might have different effects to individuals.

Hi Masihi,
Eating 2 boiled eggs per day is healthy for any normal person. My breakfast includes two boiled eggs, 4 bread toasts and a glass of fresh orange juice keeps me fit and energetic till noon.
Coming to your father in law I saw many heart patients having two boiled eggs a day. Even heart patients can have two eggs /day and some studies show only 4% of increase in their cholesterol levels. Up to my knowledge that wouldn't be any problem to him.
Any way you can just consult any physician and can get much more clarity on this.
Happy Living

Good day my friend Masihi!
My dad eats egg once a day every breakfast, he is also conscious about his diet. We heard eating an egg a day is bad,you are right,3-4 eggs maximum is the ideal or the right number of eggs we should eat in a week. But you see, when my father followed all the things his doctor told him to eat,he became so thin as in super thin! Worst,he looks so weak. So what he did,he ate everything he wants,he did not mind if it is not right, but he is still drinking his medicine though, he did it in a year and became fat again and enthusiastic, but not that super fat,he's happy with his looks now,he became alive as ever. So you see, sometimes it's not so good to follow all the right food intake, for as long as you drink your medicine for prevention, you can enjoy foods you want to eat but still in moderation.
Happy mylotting!

Masihi-
Eating regular chicken eggs is actually more healthy than eating the fake substitutes that are all chemical. The egg theory though has gone back and forth for ages. One year studies show it increases your cholesterol and other years studies show it is healthy for you. The problem with such studies is many of them though following strict procedures at times do lean toward giving people the results they want to hear. One has to look at the studies with scrutiny looking at sample size, etc. It is why there is even debate amongst doctors themselves as to where they stand.
A healthy diet is one that consists of the proper amount of protein, carbs, and fats for that person. Each of our bodies are built differently so we process things differently. It is why we now have dietitians, and nutritionists to help us learn about what is right for our body.
What could be hurting your father would be if he's coating his food with salt and added fats. Eggs by themselves are an excellent source of protein. You can use the following tool to help you find out how much protein your father needs each day:

I hope this helps.

Here is the nutrition facts for one large raw white egg. If you cook without oils (as I do) this is what you are consuming:

To cut down on added fats simply cook with Pam cooking spray or better yet olive oil. Olive oil is a "good fat".

I was reading up on things and going with non processed items. I do buy organic butter for baking because butter bakes up better, but I no longer buy anything processed. I cook my eggs in a non-stick pan so I don't use anything and they still turn out nicely. Sometimes I microwave them in my form if I'm going to make egg breakfast sandwiches for the kids. Thanks for the BR.

I think it's alright to eat it everyday just as long as you get the yellow part or the yolk. That has more cholesterol content. My father is required to eat 2 eggs everyday as well but he remove the yolk. He eats the white part of the egg to increase his albumin content in his blood because his is low.

I'm starting to see that it's an individual case from what I've read throughout this discussion, we do have to exercise, especially weight-bearing exercise to accomadate the extra protein.
I don't know, my father in law does live a sedentary lifestyle, so maybe he is eating too much for his lifestyle choice.
On the other hand, if the eggs contains the good cholesterol, what harm would it do if he just consume one egg? Anyway, I'm not his doctor or anything, and I imagine he knows what he's doing, I do know he LOVES his food, LOL! I don't think he had problems breathing or anything, though.

I have heard lately that eggs are very good for you and especially boiled eggs because these have been cooked pure in the shell and not in some oil or other sort of extra fat. I would say as long as he doesn't eat some other high cholesterol item during the day, it is probably good for him. They say two eggs has all the cholesterol you need for the day as well as many other vitamins and minerals that are essential for good health. I would work on cutting out other more unhealthy items from the diet to make room for the healthy cholesterol of the eggs!

I didn't know that too much eating of boiled egg or any kind of egg can cause cholesterol. Egg is better for your health. But, as saying says "Too much is bad" maybe it's not good to eat a lot of egg in a week.YoU should go to doctor and have check up and follow what to eat or not.
