Hi mylotters, i was curious with the choices that we make when we grow up, especially in reading. because i have observe that my choices in kinds of books, magazines, pamphlets changes as i mature. when i was in my high school years i am addicted to Archie comics, and romance pocketbook, but when i reach my high school i find riders digest and fashion magazines more interesting. When i reach my college life, i been a book lover of all self help books in the field of psychology and business and philosophy. But some of my friends never had so much change in their reading preferences, some of them still have the collection of romance pocketbooks. So how about you guys?

Hi jen, My reading preferences do vary. I used to read a lot fiction books from my primary to college years but nowadays I feel not up to it unless it is quite heavy such as the classics. One reason I can't read fiction anymore is the huge amount of technical books I have to tackle in line with my Computer Programming course that got started by accident and became a career. Added to that are the technical books on Computer Hardware Repair/Trouble Shooting. I have no more time for fiction just for that. I think its reality time guys.

Hello Rog, Well you are correct in that angle, the demands of our studies and work forces us to change our reading preferences. It's not by choice but by need of the situation. I agree that reading classic could sometimes kill our time, and indeed it is a bit far from your technical books which has a realistic approach, sometimes our mind is program to the usual reading materials and we tend to be not interested anymore when we go back to our old choice of books.

I think that it can certainly change. Sometimes, it might not change very much, or be a very drastic change, but sometimes it's just a small change. It might not always be the case, but I do think that sometimes it just happens.

Yes,for some people it would be that slow to change their likes. Maybe it's just normal.

Well I'm not that old... I'm 19 and in college. But I do think my reading preferences have changed a little bit over the years. Back in middle school I loved Christian Supernatural thrillers like This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti. In high school I sort of shifted over into high fantasy/ Christian fantasy, and I really haven't changed since! I've never been one who liked non-fiction, but I do tend to read a lot more of it these days since I'm in college and naturally trying to learn as much as I can.

Thank you for that comment. Indeed, it is part of our uniqueness as an individual in our choices of reading, your the same with my friend. I agree, that with busy schedule of college life our love of readings would need to be set aside for i am sure you have lots of books that you need to read in order to make it good in college. God bless.

Sure, I think reading materials will vary as you age. How many children do you see reading the neswpaper? I still love reading books meant for young adults, and as a teacher reading to children, I enjoy reading books to preschoolers that are meant only for that age group.

Yaah, lol. i was just a bit curious with that because some old habits and type of reading never change. Like my friend she still has a series of collection of pocketbooks. I agree with you it's with our love of reading. Thanks for the answer.

Yes, I think slightly in many ways. However, there will be tastes that we have that will never chance. Once a comic book geek, always a comic book geek after all, in my case. Still there are books that I might not get as a child or a teenager. However reading them as an adult, I get a new appreciation for them. So tastes do in fact change in that respect.

I agree, some things never really grow old. Even if we age each and everyone of us has a still a little child within. Even now i still appreciate comic book, but its not the same when i was still that young that was so obsessed with it.LOL. Again you are correct that appreciation in reading materials do change, when i was young my aim in reading comics was laugh and to see the adventure, but when the grown up read its, its a different paradigm, depending on the person. thanks for the answer.

I think it does change because when we grow older, our interests change. So maybe because of that we might not want to read some romance novels. As we grow older, I think we look for more inspiration thats why we read some philosophical books and some read news paper to make us aware of rights as a person and what can we do to help solve it.

Thank you for the answer, i agree sometimes our experiences in life forces us or encourages us to change our reading preferences, to that point we haven't recognize that. Our day to day demands makes us immune to the newspapers and magazines. Sometimes also when we are faced with emotional and moral struggles, we sometimes finds refuge in philosophical books to search for peace ans answers.

I totally agree with you.. Reading materials really do change for some people as they grow up..although some just stick with their comics. Before, I never thought I can open a pocketbook or novels (I just read those with pictures) , but in high school I really read a lot of them and truly enjoyed them. I love Reader's Digest too..
