The society consists of children, the young people and the aged people.Sometimes I feel that the old people are burden to the society. In fact I am aged 76 plus. The feeling comes to me often that as the aged people need care and medication and unable to do any work either for themselves or for others they are a burden to the society.Their utility to the society is nil.Again I feel that their rich experience with men and matters are needed for the guidance of the young people or otherwise they are likely to be in a mess. Thus two types of feeling occurs to me.It may be due to my old age.Any way what do you all think about it...

Not at all. I love and respect old people. They've been through a lot and can teach us a lot. I think they are a blessing to society. When I pass an old person on the street, I always make sure I get out of their way to let them pass, even though I've seen them looking timid and wanting for me to pass. I deliberately show them honour. They were here before me; they are probably braver than me; and worked harder than me; and suffered more than me. They make me feel humble. God bless our beloved old.

So you feel that the aged are the blessing to society qnd you also feel humble before them in view of their past experience of pain and pleasure , failures and success men and matters. It is very nice of you to give respect to the elders. Some feel they will always remain young and behave proudly. We have to pity such people. One day they will also become old and they will surely be a burden to the society

The aged were youth sometime earlier and they have preseved what you enjoy now.How can they be burden to the society. On the other hand they are invaluable assets as their experience in life with men and matters will not available to the youth without them...

Old people are not a burden to the society. In fact, they are assets because they are still contributing to the society in their own ways. Old people might be old, it does not mean they are unable to work. Being old does not mean they can't keep up with times. Without the aged, how would the society become of what it is now? If aged people are burden, there shouldn't be any young generation too because they do aged along with time too.

So you consider that old people are assets to the society. No doubt they do some work.. may be not as much as youngsters.you also feel that the society would not have been what it is today without the contribution of the aged.Yes.the young will become old in course of time and if the youth begin to think that the aged are a burden then they too would become a burden sooner or later. So the aged are the guardians of the society. Is it not ?

I have respect for older people and think that elderly people are not a burden to society. Some older people are grandparents and that is probably really lovely. Older time have a lot of knowledge of life so it seems and this is interesting. I think it is excellent that you are enjoying communicating on My Lot with people of all different ages. In my local area people over 60 get a free bus pass. After retirement age each person gets a pension. Todays baby will grow older and have a birthday each year. Before long he or she will be an older person. As a person gets older it feels like time is moving more quickly. Sometimes a person is young at heart and they don't feel their true age. A very old person that is unable to look after him or herself will be in an old age people's home.

Therefore you don't consider the old people are a burden to the society.Their company is very enlightening because of their rich experience and knowledge of life.Even children like the company of old people becaquse they shower love and affection on the children.Generally they are very docile and peace loving. They may not do hard physical work but they can render timely advice and moral support in times of need....

Older people are a valuable asset to our society. We learn from them and also learn to appreciate different cultures, traditions, and values from them. Yes, older people need care and assistance, and so do babies, but we all contribute to society in one way or another. Older people have more experiences than younger people and can share that knowledge with us.

Yes you are right. The experience and knowldge is very useful and helpful to the youth. They are indispensable and real assets to the society. They may not be able to do manual work like youngsters but they are friends, philosophers and guides to the youth.Without them it will be a mess in the society. No doubt they need care and help financially and physically but it is worth helping them as they are the real well wishers...

personally, i don't view old people as "burden". i think they are a critical part of the society, they maintain balance, and they are the ones responsible for retaining traditions an cultures of each nation. also i agree that they are indispensable guidance to the younger generations.

Happy to read your response.Yes they are no a burden to the society.Their experience is very useful to the society. They may not be as active as youngsters but they can guide them and also correct the youth whenever they go wrong or commit mistakes. That is because of their experience which is not available to youngsters. So let the old people also live happily without feeling that they are burden to the society....

Oh, what wonderful answers have already been given! I don't know what I can add to it. Old age is not a burden on society, or it shouldn't be. I very much enjoy the company of older prople. And I am almost sixty. It is very much a comfort to have someone older to talk with and seek advice. Older people can help us all to stay on track and not get gobbled up in the frantic day to day circus that is the world today. They can remind us of our manners, teach us things that could so easily be forgotten if not for their memories. Our elders are a very important part of our lives. God never intended us to push our older folks aside or put them away when we get too busy to care for them or spend time with them.
Families used to remain together and care for each other right to the end of life. What a cold and lonely place our world would be without our elders.
