My Canon Camera lens has a few smudges in it and also some dirt on it and the edges. What's the safest way to get tehse smudges, fingerprints and dirt off the lens in a safe way?

The three step routine is: 1. use a bulb blower (NOT compressed air) to blow off all loose particles 2. any dirt that remains should be removed with a camel hair brush or a specially designed lens brush 3. remove any remaining smudges with either a lens cleaning cloth or lens cleaning tissue (both available from optical stores and camera shops. You can moisten these with water or special cleaning liquid but DO NOT use any cloth of cleanser that has silica in it because that will scratch the delicate from coating on the lens. There are plenty of lens cleaning clothes and liquids that contain silica - they are fine for cleaning other glass but they ruin camera lenses.

well i have a panasonic dmc fz 35 and even i would like to see what users post here. i have learned from many articles and forums though that water is ok to clean with a soft cloth. yes, the water content should be very less just make the cloth a little wet and clean... let's see what others have to contribute
