People often do it to protect their privacy as I do. My real name id very long and not pronounceable easily. The other reason is people have a login name as they fancy thenselves.

Whether one use one's real name or code name,it introduces the same person.Just as a person wears different dresses and costumes on different occasions, one may use different symbols or codes to signify one's presence or membership in different forums. No matter what code one uses to identify himself or herself, the weightage and quality of his or her personality is reflected through the quality and content of his presentation and discussions.Thanks.

code names and nicknames are used in order to gain anonymity... you don't know people you generally chat with so it's best to make use of a codename in order to avoid identity theft or a villain (dramatic! lol) learning your identity and knowing where you live and perhaps doing vile things like robbing you or something like that..
It's best to be careful when dealing with people you don't know.
I prefer to use a nickname, I will reveal my real name to the person I am chatting with once I get to know the person I am talking with and feel more confident that they are not out to get me.

I prefer using my code name or nickname as what it's called. There are a few reasons that people use a fake name when they're online. It could be due to the fact that they don't want anybody to stalk them or know who they are and perhaps, they might want to conceal their identity. I feel it's better like that. In the online world, there are a lot of traps which is unknown to us. If we use our real name in every forum or site, it'll be very easy for the cyber thieves to track us down. So, it's better to use a fake name.

Because, we all want to be secret agents don't we? I think it because people can be somebody else on the web whereas in real life they can't live a lie past the stages of keeping it going. Also, pet names can only be recognized by somebody who knows them, if you have a secret name and I don't know the origin then I won't think anything about it. I use code names and my real name, it depends on what I'm doing.

Yes it is good to use real name but using our code name is better to hide our identity. This will protect us from any danger and damage that we will possibly encounter in the future issues. In my own personal opinion I am prefer to use my code name. When we use our real name we cannot tell some other issues that we would like to say in both ways negative or in positive comments. We sometimes want to says some comments and issues that was very sensitive that need some extra protection. Code names can help mostly to hide the true identity of the person wrote the topic. I'm in favor of using code names.

It depends; if I am using a personAl email id which I share it only with my friends and family then I use my real name.
And I use my code name when I use to interact with unknown person as i am afraid that my personal information should not be open to public.
