Well, it happened again…I got a virus and lost a bunch of files. I don’t know where they keep coming from but I’m ready to choke whoever is putting them out there. So now I’m working on organizing my PC and then I’m backing everything up and then I’m going to backup once a week any new stuff I get. I know some of the stuff I’ve lost but not everything.
The only thing is how to back it up. I normally put everything on CD’s and store them in a fireproof safe, but then I was thinking what if the disks get messed up, should I just print it all. But then if there’s a fire I lose it all…I really think I’m just going to go with the disks.
Have you been hit with a virus recently? What do you think is a proper punishment for ppl that intentionally spread viruses? How do you save information on your PC? Do you backup your computer regularly?

My desktop computer was hit with a virus not long after my son was born last year. I guess it was probaly in July when I started having problems with it. I have a mini laptop, but I was having problems with it too. The desktop still isn't working, but I did manage to get my laptop working correctly. I'm really careful about sites I visit and I have no clue how I got a virus on my desktop. The thing is, I've done scans on it and nothing is ever found but I know that has to be the problem. We had a computer specialist look at it and he was pretty certain it was a virus too. He said because my comp is from like 2004 or so that it probably wasn't worth the money it would cost to fix it.

Once last week and once the week before, Norton Anti-virus alerted us that it had killed a couple of major viruses. Normally, we get an alert around once a month. Guess the mean people decided to do double duty over the holidays and make life miserable for all of us. These were major bad because usually Nortain tells us there are just minor ones it killed in a sweep. Sorry about all your stuff. I hope something helps you soon.

There is almost no way you can punish people unless you know who did it. It is a big deal and that is why pc virus programs are big business. Hackers love to figure out new ways to get into systems. Experts who work with companies get paid big money because they know how to fix problems and keep them from happening. But no system is foolproof.

Yep! Currently, I'm working on a computer
that is still infected by a virus.
I can't get the virus to leave.
So I had to switch to using the
'guest' login of the computer cause
that's the only one that can go online.
I have banned the infected user name
and am still working to get the virus
off my computer.
Right now, I'm using Comodo Anti-Virus
and that works very well.
It's much better than many
paid anti-virus systems.
Mostly, my computer was infected
cause it hadn't been updated
in over a year.
Updateing your computer with
new files from Microsoft, assuming it's a PC and not Mac,
will prevent many new infections.
Also, try opening up the Guest user name login,
just in case you can 't access your main
login.
Create three or four alternate
'administrator' user names for your computer.
I did all that and it helped me rescue
the computer after getting spiked by one mean,
nasty malicious virus.
As for what should happen to hackers
and people who distribute spyware,
I think we should pile them onto a barge
and sail them out into the middle of the ocean
with no way to return.

I back up my computer every week on discs and I also run CCleaner and Super AntiSpyWare to ensure dangerous files are eliminated and the computer. I still managed to get a virus twice and each time I had put the computer in safe mode and did a system restore. I have AVG Antivirus which is pretty good but not infallible!

Hey Trouble, LOL
I told you that you can not stop ppl who make viruses. You can only take precautions to help you avoid them. I back all my stuff up on an external hard drive. You might want to save up your pennies and buy one. They work great and are easy to use. What you spend in disk and ink you could buy one. Later, kitten

I bought one of those little back-up drives. You plug it in and it backs everything up automatically. The only problem is that it only works sporadically now. I haven't even had it for 6 months. I just have to trust my virus scan program to kill the viruses for me. It automatically updates every day. I think it is very important to have a good virus scan program. If you currently use one or don't, it sounds like you need to get a new one! There are several decent ones that are free. I think one is called AVG.

This is one of my pet peeves too...if they have enough brains to figure out how to do a viruw why don't they do some good with their brains like cancer research instead of destroying other people's property! I do back mine up or put them on a memory stick or cd. When my computer crashed last time though they just back up the info and reinstall it for me.

I actually have a few different things that I do to keep all of my files saved in case of any kind of a disaster. The main thing that I do is that I keep everything saved on external hard drives. What I need to do that I haven't done that is that I need to take a copy of all of my files to a place that isn't my own home so that I won't lose my stuff in case of a fire. In addition to that, I also keep most of my files backed up on disc as well.

All my important files are saved to a separate hard drive- that way if my PC is infected, or I have a hard drive failure, my important documents are safe.
As a secondary measure anything crucial is backed up onto a flash drive.
If you are backing up to disk you can always label them or their cases as to what they contain.

Hi, Being infected with computer virus is normal. You just have to scan your computer regularly to prevent further infection. And yes. I do back up my files regularly, not just because of virus attack, but also to protect my files from sudden hard disk crashing.

That is one thing I hate about computers, I know that Apple boasts that they don't have viruses but as soon as the corner the market on Mac's, they are going to have them. I think that snot nosed little punks who write virus software need to have their fingers broken, it sounds like a just punishment. If I were you I would buy an external hard drive and keep all my files on that, transfer them every night and you'll still have them for when you need them.

Not really been affected by a virus in as far as wiping my whole files. Thankfully my antivirus keeps them at bay. Get a good one like Norton or Kaspersky

Hi dear,
I have already installed a virus software to detect the threat from virus. Also, there is a specific programe that executes whenever I shut down the system. Once the shutdown command is given it pre executes this small program and all the data whatever is stored is asking for that days updating. If we say yes, it will update the latest login result or saves that days changes. If say no, then there is options where we can save to the mark.
If the computer is infected, then we can give the appropriate time based command so that the data stored upto the time will be safe and the loss of data issue can be resolved upto a certain extend. However, if it happening by technical problems or something there is no guarantee for the data. But I always take a back up, if I am working on certain important or confidential data by same time save method so that whatever happens to the system the data currently working would be saved.
Thank-s

I'm really sorry to hear that, it is not always a fun time to go through with when our computer got hit by a virus. I have not got any virus recently but I had in the past which I had to reformat my laptop and lost all my files. Nowadays, I always store a files back up in my external hard disk just in case if the same thing happened to my notebook in the future. Thanks for sharing and have a nice day

Virus ia a general problem know a day's, so better organize your data from the day one. I never keep my data in the c drive were my os resident's. Never keep your data in c drive. Creat a ghost of c drive after completing your window's, driver, software installation. Keep your ghost file in other dirve. Regurally keep data of your my document folder. So this way if ur OS get's corrupt u can instantly get it installed. do keep your antyvirus updated.. "happy Ghosting"..
