Safe at home with my neighbors who can walk to my house in attendance. That way no one is risking being hit by a drunk driver, or being drunk while driving. Makes a lot more sense than going out to get drunk and endanger other lives. None of us in my party are drinkers, but we don't want to be on the roads with folks who are - especially on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

The best New Year's Eve party I ever attended was across the street from our Longboat Key, Florida home on our private beach. We cooked seafood, corn and potatoes in a huge pot, spread it out on a table when it was done (without benefit of bowls or platters). We had radios turned to dance music and played a night-time volley ball game. When the magic hour hit, we sang "Auld Lang Syne" and with a toast to the new year, headed home (after cleaning the beach, of course). It was beautiful to be with so many friends in a very special place.

What a perfect way to start the new year with the special people around you in a very special place indeed. Happy Holidays!

doggydimon,
For me, it will be at Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers in Mauritius with my entire family.
The company is giving the entire staff and family members an all expenses paid holiday retreat for the whole week which will see us together for Christmas and the New Year.
So, all the best here and compliments of the season.

HOLY COW! First of all, a new year at the beach would be something new. Second of all, what a generous boss!!! :D Is there an opening? I am looking for a new job... :D

I have a baby daughter aged 18 months and a disabled toddler son aged 3 years old. They will be in bed at 7 pm or slightly earlier if necessary on New Years Eve 2010. So the best place to countdown before 00.00 on January 1st 2011 will be my home for me and my family. I hope to listen to music but keep the volume low so it doesn't wake my children up.

I would love to be in the Riviera Maya, Mexico for New Year or on the island of Koh Pang Yang in Thailand. The Thai option would be one big party and Mexico would be quite the opposite - quiet and relaxed. Both locations are favourite holiday holiday destinations, the warm weather alone sells it for me!

Funny... I was thinking the opposite... Party in Mexico and quiet and relaxation in Thailand.

Perhaps I am much more practical now. I seldom go out at night since I have a child now. So perhaps the best place for us to greet the New Year will be at home. Or we may go out to have a dinenr and then have a walk outside. But we won't count down outside since it will be too late for our child to go to bed.
