I can not seem to get my mind off of a situation that occurred last week. No matter what I do the image just haunts me. I know that at times it is difficult to accept when someone gives advice on a safety issue in regards to an infant but I just am so cautious on anything that deals with an infant. I know that you can not force anyone to do anything and although I have a 3 year and a little experience I know I was very strict on her when she was very tiny (still am just not as much) and well I gave advice to a friend that was with to please always have her 1 month old seat bealt on corectly and that the carseat needed the insert that goes with it under the age of one just to prevent any hazard falls and to make sure the car seat handle locked in to place correctly before she picked it up. Well her response was pretty much I hate for her to feel cooped up so I take it off once we get out the car so she is comfortable and well I just had to accept her decisions you can only give advice but not force any one even if its a safety hazard! Well after she got out of her appointment she was carry the whole carseat and when she put the carseat down to pick it up by the handle she failed to make sure that the handle was locked into place and then so quickly the carseat tilted and out came the 1 month old and fell straight on her face on the commercial tile floor! The mother was in shock she paused and well the infant fell by my feet my first instinct was to pick her up quickly and just hold her straight and pray* babies have guardian angels and in situations like this you never know what can happen next!!! I did not want to jump and attack my friend all I said was please calm down she will be ok have faith just please please always have her seat belt on and make sure the handle locks in to place* I can not get over the babies purple face! She was breathing and everything and she decided to not take her to the doctor to get checked out and boy that is eating me away I do not want this baby to have any issues due to lack of immediate medical attention!!! My friend is just afraid and she feels like the worst mother ever!! Please give me some advice??

Oh that is terrible. I wish she would have taken the baby to get checked. I still think she should take the baby to the doctor. You should encourage her to do say if she is your friend. You can never be to careful when it comes to the safety of your children. Please encourage your friend to take the baby into the doc.

Sorry for the late response, have not got on in such a while but all support is greatly appreciated and thanks after all the writing I did on the site I just could not sit and let any more time pass by and I made my friend take the baby to get checked and she is thankfully ok not a scratch or a bump to me it is just a miracle and now I am more at ease because of the assurance of the doctor.

Oh my that's terriable. Please encourage your friend to take the baby to a doctor. My middle daughter was 11 months old and fell down 5 steps in our old house while I was working because somebody for got to close the gate and my husband brought her right to the hospital. Although he was only told she was perfectly fine, you can never be too sure. You say she hit face first, that could have broken her nose or even done brain damage. I guess they would call in blunt force trama to the head. I know babies are very resilient, but as a mother of 4 I wouldnt be anything more then cautious. Please tell her just to have the baby checked. Accidents happen even to the most experienced of parents.

have the baby checked just to be on the safe side since you mentioned she hit her face first on the tiled floor. then keep reminding your friend to always follow the instructions you gave her about the safety belt. don't blame yourself, you did your part in giving her the safety instructions, so it's her duty now as a mother that she keeps her baby safe always.

First off, I have to say that a baby doesn't need to be carried around in an infant carrier if they are not properly buckled in. For that reason with my own children, if they were not buckled into the carrier, then I was physically carrying them. In addition to that, if her face was bruised, her mother should have had her checked out just as a precautionary thing. Most likely she wasn't hurt any worse than being bruised, but unless you have a medical professional tell you differently, how can you really be sure?

I would have to agree with everyone. Have the baby checked!!! If the face changed color somethings amiss! It could have long terms effects on the infant. She'll feel worse if something happens to the baby which could have been prevented had she taken the baby to the doctor for a check up.
I can understand her fear, but the health and safety of the child should be paramount.
