I woke up last night feeling sore throat. I force myself to stand up and ignore the pain. I need to go to work cause we are not allowed to absent (if possible) But each time i swallow,it gives me pain and i started to have runny nose and sneezing too. Oh my,i can't afford to miss my shift tonight (can't afford to lose $__ per shift ) Have you ever felt being sick ,but doesn't want to miss the shift/work due to salary deduction? And,one more thing is...i tried to give self medication went to buy some sore throat pills/candy (strepsils) but can't find from nearest drugstore. And the burning sensation on my throat is getting worse (not to mention that i need my voice to do my job) Okay guys i am not a singer, but,it's my voice that i really need for my work. Without my voice (pleasing and bedroom voice like hahaha) better off and call for a sick leave. How about you guys, what gives you main reason to leave from work? Share your experience and waiting for your responses HAPPY HOLIDAY EVERYONE

hi jane! i used to be sick quite often in the past. i didn't want to miss the work day not because of the salary deduction. hehe coz back then our salaries were fixed on a monthly basis, no overtime pay and no salary deductions if absent for a few days coz we can charge it to sick leave and vacation leave or rest days after travel. so no problem with the salary. but i didn't want to miss work because of the deadlines and due dates and workloads piling up coz frankly, nobody will do my work except for me. so the longer i stay away from office, the more work will continue to pile up when i get back. hehe back then, if i got sick but i could still get up from bed, i'd go to the office and work. i used to be a workaholic. even after a vehicular accident, i didn't want to be rushed to the hospital until after i attended the staff meeting. lol but now, being involved in a health and wellness company, i started valuing my health more coz i grew tired of being sick quite often due to my asthma and being prone to colds, cough and flu almost every month. thankfully, i haven't been sick for the past one year since taking food supplements and following some basic steps to keep common ailments away. hehe what you need jane is to take some time for rest, lots of water and juices (like lime juice or lemonade without ice and sugar). is your throat parched or dry? i'm pretty sure that with the absence of strepsils you'd resort to our home remedy of lukewarm water with salt for gargling. in yogyakarta indonesia, a filipino friend introduced honey and lime juice squeeze as remedy when i got sick there (... same as your case: colds, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, cough and led to flu). 3 teaspoons of honey and about 1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lime juice laced with lemon. and then lukewarm water or tea the entire day. nothing sweet and no milk, coz both can trigger the sore throat and may make it worse. a much better step is not to push yourself to go to work if you are really not feeling well. a lousy feeling might just end up a lousy day at work. how about stay at home and cuddle with warm tea or some chicken soup?

hello myles, I did resort to home remedies first, but since i really wanted to go to work that is why i look for some strepsils to have while doing my job. As you know very well it is my voice which is my asset (hahaha) So i need to relax my throat while taking calls,(and that's how strepsils can work for me while i am doing my work too hehehe) Regarding salary,i can also apply it for sick leave, but i don't like to use it cause i am planning to use my sick leave/vacation leave when my mom comes home this summer (she always comes home yearly) and i am used to spend the whole month of her vacation with her and my siblings. Thanks for your concern dear and i wish to see you again HAPPY HOLIDAY

i also don't like to call in sick as far as i can unless if i am really really sick... anyway, when i was working in the past, i still get a sick leave allowance even though i am sick... so i still get paid even though i am sick as long as i can prove myself that i am really sick with a medical certificate... take care and have a nice day...

Hello I have taught in colleges for over 45 years and retired as Principal, we have enough leave, so there is no chance for 'leave without pay'; well i faced an accident in 1986, was bedridden for 8 months, it was adjusted against earned leave, medical leave etc.. Thank you so much for this post. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead. God bless you.

When I get sick, I still insist on going to work as a teacher because if I am absent, the students will have to study by themselves and have some teacher babysit or take my place. Also like what is mentioned in the discussion, the salary will be deducted from absent from work. I have never asked for leave for any reason. I am glad that I have made it so far. But who knows that I will have to ask for leave for some other reasons some day. Of course, I don't expect it to ever happen to me though. Take care, jaiho.

Hi Didi, I catch cold very fast and I am pretty allergic to dust. So I might know how you must be feeling right now, Hope you get better but I believe that you need to get the proper medicines otherwise the cold might give you fever. I hope it doesn't happen. Take adequate rest. Happy Holidays

Hello Sis jaiho, Next time, If you feel some itchy in your neck (inside, throat) 1. Buy Calamansi (a lot) and make hot Calamansi Juice (w/out) sugar 2. strepsils, probably optional if you need to work 3. cover you're neck with clothing when ever you sleep, i swear it's cold out there recently. 4. don't drink cold for a week.probably just to be sure. 5. Vics Vaporub near you're nose. (unless you're not allergic) 6. Sleep, sleep, (with lesser mylot time) Since you are working in the Call center, It's air-conditioned. you lost the chance to sweat and some how you're IMMUNITY system had gone so low and the coldness this month has pushed it. Merry Christmas

hello LK, Precisely dear brother,it's freezing out there, thanks for that suggestion (muffler) Tonight i will bring one to cover my neck and apply some mint ointment(vicks is fine not allergy but i don't like putting it in my nose, but on my neck it's fine for me) Yes,my immune system drops due to night shift (graveyard),so every morning i walk through the MRT station instead of taking cab going home. Then, also do some walking upon arriving home, just a brisk 15 minutes walking around before having some rest. I bet i am still on the adjustment period with my new job (but i really love my job,it's kinda challenging especially when you get a commendation from callers, which i got one the other night) Thanks for all the suggestion dear and yes,i don't drink cold water for many years now. Remember during our mylot conference,i ordered water without ice. HAPPY HOLIDAY dear bro and regards to the family...hope to see you again soon

hello dibs, I just need the strepsils to relax ny throat while i am doing my job as well. It is my voice that i use to do my job, without pleasing voice,i can't do my job efficiently and my boss will surely send me home if she hears my voice being unpleasant. I just visited my doctor and was given proper medication (which i hate really taking medicines if possible) Thanks for your response and WELCOME TO MYLOT. HAPPY HOLIDAY
