I hear people saying that to live a happy life, we should forget our past and future and live for present fully. Does it make sense? Do you believe it? May be they mean to say that we must forget the past that distracts our mind and future that makes us worry a lot. But I think thinking about past and future gives us determination, enthusiasm and courage to live the present fully.

You don't have to forget your past, and you do have to worry about your future.
You have to remember your past, and your past mistakes in life, for not committing the same mistakes again in life.
And you have to work hard now thinking in your future.
But, principally, try to make your actual life the best you can, enjoy the life, but don't forget about your past or not to worry about your future.

Thanks and yes I do agree with you. Our failures and mistakes in past would give key to success in present which would help to surpass the worrying to much about future as failures are the pillars of success and with mistakes we make discovery.
Merry Christmas!

Well, actually live each day one at a time and don't have to worry about tomorrow unless you are not doing something for your tomorrow then. yesterday had passed and life has no u-turn to finish undone work. do something today so you don't have to worry of tomorrow.!

It's right. We shouldn't think of the past and continue dwelling on it. But what I meant to say is, not to think of the past mistakes that we've made. They will only slow us down. Sometimes, when you're feeling down, you should think of the good things that you've done in the past, that made you who you are today, that you're correct, so that we'll have more determination and the will to carry on. I also do that when I feel unmotivated. In fact, I feel even happier because I know I've achieved that to become who I am today so I must try even harder to become even better. That's the mindset

I do not feel we feel we should live in the past, however I do feel at times we can recall certain moments about the past in our future so that we do not make the same mistakes and or continue the great encounters.
We should live in the now and look forward to a great future always.

Yes I too use to think in that way. I use to think I must sometimes recall moments of past and learn from it but the problem is I often think about past moments which are neither mistakes nor something that we can learn from it and that causes sadness in present. I really don't know how to avoid it.
Merry Christmas!

Hi! Sayings like this contain some truth but should be put in its context. It would not do to dwell too much on the past nor dream too much of the future that you are unable to live wisely in the present.
I do go back and reminisce my past as there are good and rich memories there I also think of my future as this gives me the motivation to move on. The Chinese has a wise saying that teaches moderation in everything.
Merry Christmas.

Hello, tenrajj.
Some people can learn useful lessons when they look at their past. Some can program themselves better by trying to imagine the future. Others can even find out what or where they want to be if they start thinking what will it be like in ten years.
This sentence is quite relative. Some people make a great use of time events, putting it on their advantage, allowing them to experience life better. Others are just locked on a time that is not the today, and therefore live unhappily, empty.
I think more or less like you. I know the future cannot be planned, but there must be somewhere I wanna reach. And I like to think about future in that way, to see where I want to get to. And past to learn with my own mistakes (or with others).
Respectfully,
Munhozmib.

I think the past should meet the present. Great things have happened in the past and excellent things will happen in the future. I love the way you have expressed yourself...looking at things I have accomplished in the past makes me think anything is possible for the future.

You're right. I don't think it's possible to completely ignore the past or the future. The past made us what we are now and sometimes holds wonderful memories. And if we want food, security and other things in life, we need to think about the future and work to get those things. Also, having a goal in front of us keeps us going and improves our present life.
But I think that people who say we should live in the present mean that we shouldn't cling to the past or worry excessively about the future. There should be a balance in all of us regarding these things.

HI FRIEND,
I agree with you because if we don't think of future we cant have any financial security and we must keep the lessons which we have learnt from our past so that we don't repeat any mistakes and make our life journey of life save.

I believe that live in today and forget past / future. A bollywood movie "Kal Ho Na Ho" is also based on the same subject line. Thinking / living in past doesnot make any sense as the past had already gone and now we cannot do anything to change it. Same is the case with future. We donot know what will happen in future then how can it benefit if we worry about future. Let the life prevails and be happy in today. Rest be kept for God to decide what future he want to give us.

Thanks for your meaningful opinion. It brought kind of undecidability in my mind. As of now I am more inclined away from what you say as past gives lessons for present and future gives hopes for present though I don't deny what you say. May be we can put it in this way, if it is some thing good then take it into consideration it be it past or future.
Yes we may leave rest for god but remember there is old saying "god helps those who helps themselves". Our own action makes our God.

No I do not believe we should totally forget the past and not look to the future at all. What I believe is this,
We learn throughout our life, if we forget that we never learn. This brings the past into our present.
If we look forward to having children, grandchildren, and so on. Family get together's, planning for special occasions, this brings the future to the present.
The present is a choice of what we have learned, what we plan and planned, as well as spontaneous choices.
Yesterday is history we learn from
Tomorrow is a mystery, that can change no matter how much we plan.
Today is a gift, you never know what truly happens until it happens.

there's a research that says that whoever thinks about the past and worry about the future be unhappy
i think it's because the past is gone and nothing can change that, the future might not happen as we are afraid of it's gonna to but to both past and future there's the now that we can actually change things

Yesterday has passed. Tomorrow cannot is uncertain. What you can control is today. So please forget past ( of course, I mean you need learn something from past, but for those old matter, please forget) We cannot always think of the things matter. We cannot say we will, we will ...
We should devote ourselves to the things that need to be done today. If you want to do something, please take action immediately.
