God is a luxury poor folks cannot afford.
So said some one I know. His evidence? He pointed to the fact that he had been praying for about 2 decades for a particular thing, and so far all he has got is nothing.
Here is how the conversation went:
Friend: If God is really who he says he is, how come bad people prosper while good people suffer?
Me: God has never said he is anything to any one. Sure, people have put words in God's mouth, but I'll bet you the pulpit these people are hustlers and lunatics more than anything else.
Friend: O.K, what God has done to punish all these bad people: we've seen many of them commit tremendous evil, and then die peacefully in their sleep.
Me: My friend, think about this: evil cannot thrive without the participation of society. So you see, the guilt of the evil man, is also the guilt of us all; either because we participated in it, or because we did not do enough to stop it.
He thought about that for a minute, got up and walked away. I think I reached him.

i like your argument... it is very interesting... it is so true that if we see someone committing a sin and we didn't say or do anything to stop the person, then we are committing a sin as well... it is similar like we are an accomplice of the person and participate in committing the sin... thanks for reminding about this fact again from your post... take care and have a nice day...

Interesting conversation. Regarding the unanswered prayer, maybe there was not enough faith with those prayers or maybe things that he prayed for would not bring him prosperity. In Matthew 21:22 "And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive", clearly, we must believe in order for us to receive. And regarding the sin of omission, yes, I agree with you, good people are as guilty if they do not do enough to stop bad things from happening. God bless.

Interesting conversation. I believe that God is not bound to do anything for anyone if they don't believe in Him and accept Jesus as their Savior. Not to say that He won't do things for them, but He hasn't promised anything, as you said. Bad people may seem to prosper, but so do some good people. Some bad people do not prosper. We have to be honest about the way things really are. It rains on the just and the unjust and God doesn't intervene unless/until there is real reason to and we who believe in Him ask Him to.
I hope you did reach him. It's sometimes really hard to know what to say.
