i was having this chat on money with a net friend the other day, and we both reached diverse conclusions though we had the same views about money.
both of us agreed that money is not important to either of us, and yet he cud not explain why he chose a career that paid him by the bucketloads each month.
nor could i understand, why i am so careful with the money i have(so much so, that my son calls me chindi....), if money is not that important to me.
after lots of thought, i think making loads of money for me is not important perse..im happy with whatever it is i make, and i dont wanna put more efforts to make more than i have now....but how i choose to spend the limited money i make...thats important to me. cause of the security money provides...
wat are the take of members on the topic, money...
how important or not important is money to u? why?
is the making part important, or the spending part, or both? if both, what wud be the %s that u would give each activity?

Whenever I hear about money being discussed somewhere this is one line that comes to me all of a sudden, though I don't agree with it much. "Money so they say is the root of all evil today". Sung by a famous British progressive rock band way back in the 70's this one line describes a lot about "money".
Money in it's simplest form is only a medium of deferred payment, something that's just as necessary for sustenance as anything else. Earn it, spend it, borrow it, lend it, hoard it, launder it until it starts dictating terms to you. Let it takes it's own course and that will make life simpler.

To me, earning money and spending money has same importance. I always try to reduce my expenditure and try to take my bank statement frequently. So that I can get the overview of my expenses. I am a full time employee. But still I try to earn extra money so that I can save it for my future use. Bcoz I think savings is very important as you never know what circumstances can come in your life and that can happen any time.

money is only a tool for me to survive in this world... that's all... i don't want to see money as everything and be a greedy person... just enough is good enough for me... that's what i am asking from God... i am always grateful for whatever blessings He gives me and my family... take care and have a nice day...

I understand that money(or rather what money can buy) is important but it is not the only important thing in the world. I have to be decently fed, I need a place to dwell and clothes to wear. Besides that, it seems that everyone of us has different needs. I am only aware of how important electricity is for me when there´s an electrical problem and I don´t have it. Yet mankind has been able to survive for almos all it´s time on earth without it.
I work online to have money to travel. It is my luxury but it is a shame when I think of all the people that could be fed with that.
This is an interesting topic but with no easy answer. I like to work up to some extent, and I like to spend the money I earn in thing I need or like. I could not give a percentage. For me, health comes first, then food and education. Clothes and dwelling do next. I am lucky to have enough for all, according to my age. The rest is luxury.

Money is something that I wish I could live without, but I can't. I need food, a roof over my head, clothes, and other stuff such as a phone and a computer. I couldn't live without these things, so I need to make money. That's all. Money of itself means nothing.

Hi!
It's a whole lot different from my point of view considering that, first, I grew up in a third world country, and second, that it took my family years before we arrived at where we are right now. Point is, this is a subjective issue. From what I know, money really is an important thing. It can take you places, buy you stuff, feed you, and whatnot. That said, money is an important thing because it literally makes your world go round.
There are problems, though, regarding this issue.
First, how easy it is to spend equals how hard it is to earn which is money is valued so much because it isn't easily attainable. You need to work your butt off to get it.
Second, money is viewed negatively because of how, through history, it backed up people who used it for evil. Obviously, money would also equate to power; whoever has it, has the upper hand.
Generally, money is important and must be valued -- but in the right ways.

I wouldn't say that there is anything wrong with earning money, even lots of money that some people claim to be somewhat "evil" - for want of a better word. I feel that attachment to money is where the problem starts as with attachment to anything.
As a Zen practitioner I aspire to detachment so that desire is transcended - not easy, but it is paradoxical and we need to make sure that we do not desire a desireless existence. More accurately we need to work through our karmic desire by experiencing it and witenessing, then we can let it go.
Mindfulness is strong practice with Zen and if we work mindfully, we work to the best of our abilities and this in turn brings money that we are not attached to. All is a circle - nothing is linear if we look closely enough. _Derek

Money is just a matter o comfort to me.
you know anything that adds comfort to your life is worth attention. But i'm not obsessed with it and nor it is the only thing important in my life and i wish it never will be.
It can make people materialistic. Which i believe is not a thing to be proud of.
