Is eating many types of fruits a day good for children?

My son is 22 months old now, and he likes to eat fruits. So, I usually prepare a few types of fruits a day for him. Usually I'll prepare apple, grapes, orange, sometimes banana, papaya. There'll usually be more than 3 types of fruits a day. He also likes to eat raw vegetables, so sometimes I will also give him some carrots, celeries, cucumbers. He is not eating everything at one time, but just eating them in a day. I actually think it's good to eat more fruits and vegetables, but my mother and mother-in-law do not agree with this. They think eating too much fruits can make him stomachache, though he hasn't have stomachache so far. What do you think about this? Do you think it's fine to have more than two types of fruits per day?

I think it's fine and great that you are exposing him to different kinds of fruit and vegetables. I'm amazed that he also takes raw vegetables. When my children were young , I also gave them different kinds of fruit to try and made sure that there is a vegetable dish every main meal that they take.... helps in preventing constipation.

Hi there, thanks for your response. I am glad my son takes raw vegetables too, it can be served as his snack, rather than giving him junk food.

I think it's great that you are showing your son good habits in eating vegetables and fruit. Everyone has input when it comes to raising kids but honestly I don't see anything wrong with this one. I can't even get my kids to eat healthy vegetables but they do better with the fruits.

Hi there, thanks for your response and encouragement. Yeah, different people have their own thoughts in raising kids, and I always have different ways from my parents and friends.

Hi. kaka135. I think that you are making a wise and a smart decision of giving your son fruits and vegetables to eat. Children need a variety of fruits and vegetables to eat anyway. I just think that you should be careful about giving him grapes, and hard carrots. You will have to dice his fruits and vegetables into small bits so that he will be able to chew it without choking on it. Follow your own instinct because you know what is best for your son, not your mother-in-law. It is great that you are giving your son nutritious foods to eat, it is better than him having junk foods.

Hello my friend kaka135 Ji, I think your son is doing very well, I know people have been living only on fruits, but your son is too yoiung. He must have some solid food as well, so your Mother and MIL means. On ething is notable taht your son is fond of taking Raw vegetables as well, that is really good, you may add some sprouted as well. In fact it should be balanced diet where % of each calories should be taken care off. Also new order always takes over old.we throw away old things and replace with new . YUou may take guidance from babycentre.com .Thanks. May God bless You and have a great time.

How many types of fruit is not importance. Your son should be eaten enough fruits which he like, don't eat too much.

Before we give our children the fruit, we should make sure our children are not allergic,or have an eating disorder with this fruit. In general fruit are very good for the growth of our children, we try to provide a lots of fiber, mostly sourced from fruits that are consumed

Fruits are good for the health, but as they say - anything too much is bad. I believe that it is all right to have your child eat different types of fruit as long as you do it with proper awareness to what is good and not, some babies have low tolerance over some kinds of fruits so you have to know if a certain type gets his stomach irritated. Also make sure that he eat proper meal first before the fruits so his stomach will not react badly.

Children at that age eat what their bodies tell them to eat--and their bodies tel them what is good for them. It sounds as if your son is developing good eating habits! If he was eating chocolate or cake and cookies, I would be concerned but eating fruits is good for him! Your mother in law might be telling you this because of how she was raised so respect her opinion. But explain to her that fruits are God's gift to us and very healthy. When the first couple was created, all they ate was fruits and vegetables and they got along just fine.

I think you are doing a good job with the way you are feeding your son. Now he'll grow up wanting to healthy foods. I don't think he'll get a stomachache unless you give him a lot all at once. You could always check with your doctor amount the amount to give him. I really think you're doing well with him though.

Fruits are very good for him. As long as he's not having tummy aches..I wouldn't worry. You can tell if he acts like he does after fruit. If not..I would keep doing what I was doing. I was once told by a doctor that alot of fruit or fruit juice can cause diaper rash if they don't take in a proper amount of water too. Apparently the acids in the fruit causes it if it's not diluted in their system or before giving it to them.

Variety is the spice of life...But everything is better in moderation. I love it when old sayings clash like that. People handle certain foods differently. My mom has told me that she has a time digesting dairy products...Then turns around and eats cream like theirs no tomorrow. Her issues with the stuff that comes out of a cow doesn't stop me from downing a glass of Ovaltine whenever I can. I figure, if the current routine hasn't caused a problem, then it's fine.

I don't think that there is any kind of harm at all in the fact that your son is eating a lot of different fruits and vegetables throughout the duration of a day. In fact, it is much better for your son to eat fruits and vegetables than it is for him to be eating a lot of junk food that has been processed. As long as his stomach hasn't started bothering him yet, I don't think that there will be a problem with this habit going forward.

Fruits are always good for us but it is wise to give your young child moderately. Wait until he is big enough so he can have more varieties of food.

A person needs to have several servings of fruit per day. I think what you have describes is very good diet. If he eats fruit on an empty stomache it might give him a stomacheache. It can also be caused by diahrea. Are you also giving him plenty of water? I think it is a very important part of teaching your child the correct way to eat. If he is hungry for these fruits then give them to him. If he isn't don't. Usually the child knows what he wants. I think its fine just what you are doing.

Hello kaka135! It's great that you prepare fruits for your son. Its good that he gets to eat different types of fruits because not every fruit contains the same nutrients. Also, it's good that you are training him to eat fruits. I eat fruits sometimes but not all the time. I wish I'm the kind of person who likes fruits a lot. I usually just eat sweets and junk. Different types of fruits is all right but I'd like to recommend that you let your son eat one type of fruit a week. This is to assess if he is allergic to any of them. Overtime, he can then eat different types of fruits a week, then a day. Have a nice day. It's almost new year so a prosperous and healthy new year to you and your family!

I believe eating fruits is very very good habit for health. And good symbol too. But if its a kid, then I would say that try to give fruit juices. Its best for a kid. When I was a kid, my mother used to give me apple paste a lot. Its not that much good to eat but actually its very good for health. So I would suggest give your kid as much fruit as you can. It will heep his body hydrated.

I think it is great that your son likes to eat fruits. Have you asked your doctor about all the fruits you are giving him? Also, have you discus raw vegetables with your doctor? My daughter was born a preemie (3 months early) so I checked with doctors before giving her anything new. I know there are some things I was told not to give her. I was advised not to give her grapes (babies can choke on them) and I think celery can present a choking hazard to. Again, I think all these fruits and vegetables are good, but you need to thinking about the hazards of eating. Of course, I had many more concerns than most because my lil was born so early, but I would am still concerned about the grapes and the celery. I wish I had made my own baby food in retrospect. Everyone has their own way of doing things and you have the right to decide what you want to give your son. I would still check with a doctor to make certain that all the fresh and wonderful things you are giving him is okay! FriendlyGirl777
