There are many forms of depression which can be dealt in different ways. One thing to remember is that if we can recognize it we can be a bit more pro-active to try to improve and or heal. If depression is so severe the best suggestion would be to seek some professional help. There are some forms that can be mild so the best thing to do is try really hard to think positive at all times. Telling one self that we can not always control all situations and that the next day will be a better one. Even if the next day is not better, we must continue to try harder.

Thank you for the suggestions, unfortunatly, for the sever types, most have no idea that they have an illness at all. I did not know there was anything wrong for many years,I always figured it was just bad luck.

depression is caused by a malfunction of a part of the brain. it's an illness in much the same way as Diabetes is. it's just part of the body not functioning right, at no fault of th person suffering from it. it really gets my back up that people seem to think it is caused by the sufferers approach to life, because it isn't. people can't do anything about suffering from depression. it just happens to them whether they like it or not. telling them to get over it is like telling someone if they cheer up and ignore a broken arm it will get better.

Thank you Galina, you are so right, when I was first diagnosed by my doctor,(he explained it to my parents, not me),they had me go to a number of headshrinkers,as it was thought of as being crazy and people were sent to hospitals. Today, they know it is an illness and people suffering from it,can be helped with med's. Many Blessings. Mac

Depression is when you cannot overcome the situation of the unknown. I suffer from depression 8 years ago and I am on meds since. But now, I recover from unusual heartbeat, can see properly and stay focus. Hopefully in 2011 scientists and doctors can discover a med that can help millions of people who suffers from this disease. Till then depressioner please take your meds and have a good day!

Depression can come from so many avenues. It doesnot have just one source. Fighting depression can be obverwhelming, but it can be done. It takes strength and willpower and the support of those we care about to conquer this illness.

I think that it is caused by all the stress and worry of what is going on in our life. Some people are just better able to cope and deal with what is going on than others. You just have to remember that you need to take some time for yourself and just get out of a situation if you see it is just too stressful. If it does get too bad and you just can't get yourself out of that awful depression than you should go to see a doctor and get to a counselor but I think that most depression meds only make things worse so I would just go to therapy or something and try that first.

I am sorry vicereine,if any one feels there is something wrong,go to a doctor as soon as possible,if he figures it is a mild form of depression,he can help with meds, and it may even cure your problem. I have suffered from sever clinical depression all my life, and there was no stress on me back then. Also,in my area, you can only get this type of therapy by prescription from your doctor. Thank you for your comment.

I experienced depression around 5-6 years ago and it was the most scariest time of my life. I didn't care about my own kids, wanted to leave, felt like crying, etc. I didn't know what to do other than tell my husband which he looked at me as if I was crazy. I felt so lost. I finally got back on track on going to church and it took some time but eventually God got me back on track.

Hello asliah, depression has many faces, from mild seasonal depression to very sever clinical depression. The reason it has grown to the extent it has,is because they have only just recognized it as a serious illness. I have suffered from severe clinical depression all my life, but it was thought of as a mental illness back then,so was kept hidden, once they found out what it actually is,they have found in many cases, medication helps to control most of the effects, but as of right now, there is no cure for the more serious forms. Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, and as this facet is still unknown territory, hopefully, with the speed at which science is progressing, this may change before to long.

hi asliah.iam aditya. I think depression is caused by the over-thinking of a particular topic or a person.I mean to say when you think of a person or anything more than what is actually required then indirectly stress comes on your mind and body. We should as much importance to a particular thing as it requires only.

Stress and worries can ultimately lead to depression. Your thinking and performance get affected and you tend to lose joy and fun of living. Life becomes a burden and you simply can't motivate yourself to do anything. It is certainly an indication that you are not in charge of your life. However, there are ways to empower yourself and get over it. My recent article might interest you: http://www.squidoo.com/stress-relief-techniques-take-charge-of-your-life

Depression is hard to cope. You tend to forget everything and focus on nothing. Depression is sometimes caused by a huge problem. But there's a way to cope with it. Go to a doctor and take medication. You can just rest yourself until depressions goes away as I have read in the newspaper.
